Why doesn't any artists combine modern electronic music
with old tribe music; africa, inca, aboriginal....? Wouldn't
that be way too cool?

Please let me know your thoughs on this or maybe even
suggest similiar music on this "new" genre. (Don't mention
AFX/Digeridoo please).

What's even better, send me your own stuff with these
influcenes.

Electribe is the way to go!!!

hmm not my thing i guess

i prefer raw electronic music, don't like it when it gets
too jazzy either for example (although i gotta admit the 2
tracks on vsnares' badminton release are quite good)

I thought you were talking about the Korg instrument
series.

Don't people like cornershop and Asian Dub Foundation do
stuff like this?

thwy do or have people like 23 skidoo combined electronic
music and tribal stuff, muslimgauze, some on u stuff, some
old house stuff lke did too , holger czukay - the boat woman
song is the best early example i can think of - also my life
in the bush of ghosts named after a book by a guy called
amosd tutola.

To be honest, BoC is pretty close to this with their
folklore/electronic vibes.

Aboriginal instruments are way too cool to ignore.

that sounds like a interesting combination..
i've done a few tracks using my friend's congo/bongo drums
but it hardly classifies it as tribal..

this reminds me, it's kinda unrelated, but,
i was listening to a newer sepultra cd i ordered for the
hell of it, as part of a "10 cds for free" album club
thingy.. "against" it was called.. i know it's not
electronic at all really.. it's more like bad metal mixed
with some "tribal" sounds and instruments that are
relatively unused in most of the non-explorative crap that
gets called metal today .. but hey.. it's different.. some
of the tracks with those instruments are really good..
there's songs with congo, bongo, cello, djembe, timbales,
berimbau, udu, mandolin, sitar, theremin and many
interesting "tribal" percussion sounds.. maybe worth
checking out

I have two Banco De Gaia albums and they're both a bit dull.

I'ev always been rather partial to Transglobal Underground
stuff. That's not african, but it's on a similar trip

I think they have. There use to be the global ethnic
movement thing going on in the early to mid nineties. Anyone
remember Loop Guru and TransglobalUndergroud. Loop Guru were
ace still are I think.

maya and last train to lhasa? i think theyre pretty good...

Maya was ok, but Last Train to Lhasa just got on my nerves
after a while. Some of it's good but some goes on too long.
Mind you, I got the limited 3CD version so it's hardly
surprising...

Strange though that I still have a peculiar attachment to
them both.

And Loop Guru were great :)

mmm...whattabout 'Deep forest', 'sacred Spirit' or
'Raindance'(both electronic with North american indian
chants)? ....on second thoughts, maybe too 'new age' for
some, although that is the music you are describing.

indulgence.

Richard mentioned "Batucada - The Sound Of The Favelas" as
being one of his favourite albums, -"Batucada are from South
America with really, really fast rhythms with screaming and
shouting with no songs".

i downloaded some tracks, and he is right. pretty cool
stuff.
