how high/low is the faith level in the world nowadays?

the more i think about it, the more i'm against religion -
against preconceived religions, not beliefs in general...
and all this paedophilia thing going on (it's always been
there maybe, but still)...

do you think religions will extinct some day in the future?
maybe in a few centuries on some countries?

There are still many people who believe in religion..I dont
think it would be a phase that would just stop-if people
have faith then they will pass it on and religion/hope/faith
will never die.

Christianity is a hi-jacked offshoot of Judaism. They
worship a Jew, and have heaped so much mythic symbolism upon
this unfortunate man (most Christians, I'll be willing to
wager, don't even know his real name), that Christianity is
nine-tenths bunkum. That's why it's such a paradoxical,
contradictory religion. It's not pure religion, it's not
pure spiritualism. Most of the history of Christianity from
the second millenium is comprised of greed and politics.

I never beleived anything to do with religion, although some
of the ideas I find fascinating in a fictional way, (like
angels and demons,. what a cool concept) they're cool things
to think about

ok, who had any doubt this thread would turn into religious
bashing?

I'm not one to cry foul at a lot of stuff, but this is
relatively offensive to hear you guys slag off on something
so uncompassionatly.

Jokes and not being serious I can handle, but when in the
past someone has come in with a guns blazing "All niggers
should die" then everyone goes nuts to attack that person.

I wouldn't mind trying to explain some of my religious
beliefs to you guys, but why do it if the response is going
to be "organized religion = shit"

Many of the 'miracles' accounted for in the New Testement
are there because of one thing - the Greeks. The Greeks were
a very literal race, whilst the Hebrews were very
metaphorical. What were metaphors suddenly becamse
literal truth, and hence miracles.

Take Lazarus, for instance. Lazarus was a member of Jesus'
group. He got cold feet and left. Jesus visited him, gave
him courage, and Lazarus rejoined again. Now we have that
Lazarus literally died, and Jesus literally brought him back
to life.

Which brings us to another common misconception - that hell
already exists. Hell isn't due to come into being until
after Armageddon. Until then, Earth is Satan's Playground.

this is a repeat from yesterday, but if the bbc can get away
with it so can i...

I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man
standing on the edge, about to jump off. so I ran over and
said "stop! don't do it!" "Why shouldn't I?" he said. I
said, "Well, there's so much to live for!" He said, "Like
what?" I said, "Well...are you religious or atheist?" He
said, "Religious." I said, "Me too! Are you Christian or
Buddhist?" He said, "Christian." I said, "Me too! Are you
Catholic or Protestant?" He said, "Protestant." I said, "Me
too! Are you Episcopalian or Baptist?" He said, "Baptist!" I
said, "Wow! Me too! Are you Baptist Church of God or Baptist
Church of the Lord?" He said, "Baptist Church of God!" I
said, "Me too! Are you original Baptist Church of God, or
are you Reformed Baptist Church of God?" He said, "Reformed
Baptist Church of God!" I said, "Me too! Are you Reformed
Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1879, or Reformed
Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1915?" He said,
"Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of
1915!" I said, "Die, heretic scum", and pushed him off.

i think the religion = war argument is a misconception.

Most wars are over land and ownership etc. there may be a
few religous wars, but then again religion has united many
people . and also all religions are against wars, so u wudnt
get muslims vs jews etc just for the sake of it, there is
some other reason like land for the war

Personally I am a bit confused right now. There are
currently two different informercials running selling videos
about Jesus. In one of them he is a dark latino looking dude
with a short shaggy beard and a curly mullet while the other
one has got one that looks like Brad Pitt on a bad hair day,
so which one is it? Which one is the true Jesus?

btw the Brad Pitt looking dude also seems to be wearing
dresses and clothes over the head that makes him look like a
muslim woman. All this is way too confusing

parables are told to communicate understanding that would
remain otherwise opaque. mistaking the parables for
descriptions of an objective reality or rejecting the
understanding because of the nature of the parables seem to
be parallel errors.

the arc of human history is a process by which we come to
know who we truly are. don't arrest your search because of
the failures of others.

I learned all that I could from Christianity, but you can
only learn so much until its time to move on. A person who
gains all their spiritualiy from just one religion is a
person who is dead on the inside.

i really dislike organized religion. I don't like the
concept of cramming in someplace a certain time every
sunday, or acting in a specific way that an ancient book
(that has several interpretations mind you) tells you do.

However, I do believe in a higher power, I just think it's
fucking ridiculous that he/she/it would create us for the
sole purpose of adoring and bowing to them.

The ideas don't bother me - it's the shit that gets carried
out in religion's name.

I do believe strongly though, that if you do good things,
good things will come of it. i believe in karma.

sort of unsure about the reincarnation thing though....

Well religion, the old ones, where based on suggestion cause
people wasn't too intelligent. Science is attempts to know
the actual truth, though now only based on psysical sensing.
Theoretical science, filosophy and other goes further.
Science drift into the occult little by little.

I see a middle ground where religion (which is interesting
cos it's from the collective mind of mankind, sort of innate
and full of knowledge, but also coloured by imagination and
people who are confused), science and philosophy are all
meeting up...
Religion has been used to control people by appealing to
their biggest fears, it is also full of primitive
understanding of things and often misinterpreted, and also
often enforced be mad men! But the essense of christianity,
hinduism, islam, etc... is thoroughly good, and it's wierd
how many of the concepts actually tie in with modern
physics.
I think we need a new religion! It is good in theory at
least, it's been proven that a belief in God lowers yer
risks of cancer, heart problems, depression, etc... by
something like 3x I've read recently!
And not everyone has the kind of mind that can figure out
such difficult metaphysical concepts on their own anyway.
So maybe some people are best just putting it down to blind
faith...
Personally - I very much believe in an underlying
intelligence and eternity in all this cosmic order - And I
do think of it as "God".

Just what we needed, another religion thread...

All the organized religion bashers, especially Christianity
bashers, always focus their attacks on the wrong details and
make false assumptions. Blaming the church for its
shortcomings isn't wrong.. it's necessary to keep it in
check. the pedophilia problem wasd one of the bigger
problems in recent memory. However to write off religion
and Christianity in the process is throwing the baby out
with the bathwater. Every church misses the mark. To err
is human. Even in the Bible itself, the apostle Paul
repremands the churches he started for their faults and for
starting early heresies. And this was in the first century!
Is it any surprise that churches continue to fall short
2000 years later? The teachings of Christ and the
fundamental messages are what's important, not denominations
and specifics. These divisions are not ideal, but are
necessary compromises made for a species who in their very
nature will not agree on details.
If people look at the basic messages of various faiths,
inclusing Christianity, they will find alot more useful
information on living and humanity than if they concentrate
solely on 'church'.

religion is problematic only in the promotion of self
limiting beliefs. participating in a religious faith *can*
be useful in creating an understanding of the validity of
each individual and an initiation into the awareness that
reality is far more complex and subtle than our everyday
physical experience might imply. yet at the realization
that religion represents a self limiting belief, it should
and must be abandoned.

some of us depend on self limiting beliefs, for a
while...sometimes you find stability and coherence in your
chains, until you realize that you are in chains.

who here is not operating self limiting beliefs? we all
are.

orthodoxy claims that jesus baked us all a cake, and we must
only believe in this cake to taste eternal life. i say
jesus gave us a recipe. then again, what authority do i
have? none whatsoever.

there's some people that consider interactions between
individuals to be of a religious nature (with no recourse to
some otherworldly deity) ... ie. there's all sorts of
"rituals" or "rules of the game" we follow, what we consider
mundane facial expressions etc. but which are strikingly
absent in people suffering certain mental illnesses ->
studies with people in mental institutions has shown that a
lot can perceive the "game" if you like, but have an
inability to play it (in extreme cases throwing faeces etc.)
