Metallica - St. Anger

Who's looking forward to its June 10th release? I know I
am... obviously the Metallica-hater population has exploded
in recent years, but they were probably responsible for me
truly becoming a ''REAL'' fan of music. Their early work is
classic, and you know what... I even loved Load and Reload.
Clearly not on the same level as Master of Puppets and
Justice, but nowhere near the atrocities some people claim
they are. Artistic growth... they swing and groove (or at
least try to), which is more than their contemporaries can
claim. Quite a few interesting experiments, with country,
traditional, what-have-you. Didn't try to re-tread the past
at all, I'll always have respect for them and I can't wait
for this one.

The Ja Rule track... was a low point. But I have high hopes
for this, apparently they've fleshed out the tracks a bit
more, complex arrangements and compositions a-la their
earlier classical-tinged Master era work. Sounds good. Track
listing backs that up, 70+ minutes of music and only 11
tracks.

St. Anger
Some Kind of Monster
Dirty Window
Invisible Kid
My World
Shoot Me Again
Sweet Amber

That artwork is baaad. I've seen various "demos" and stuff
flying around various p2ps, but I've resisted downloading
more than one track after the Radiohead incident. Like you
said, it's supposed to be heavier but I don't think I even
care any more, it'll take a momumental effort to stir my
loins. I haven't heard the Ja Rule track btw

I couldn't agree with you more Mr. Ophecks... i love....LOVE
the early classic metallica stuff. And i was a basher of
their newer material...

But i admire them for changing stuff up...i mean, sure they
could have continued to churn out the same crap which would
have been cool, but after a 5th and justice for all clone
came out people woulda been like dude...give us a break.

I'm looking forward to the new album...i hope the claims are
true about how they're going to throw in elements of their
old style b/c i truly miss the aggressive feel in most music
today.

Whats this talk of a Ja-Rule track?? i haven't read up on my
metallica info in a long time.

If you haven't heard the Ja Rule track, try your damndest to
keep it that way, and hold out until St. Anger to cast
judgement on them.

This CD also comes with a free DVD of studio footage, and
the band playing ALL 11 songs live. That=good.

the 256k mp3s I downloaded are great. Go buy yourself a

umm so like what does the album title mean...

Does ST. anger stand for:

St(reet) anger?
St. throw in an R to make it stranger

Saint Anger?

just curious

Thats the cover?!

Lame.

As far as the Ja Rule thing is concerned, it kinda shows me
how out of touch they are. Their first four albums were dope
though, they were my favorite band as a kid.

career/dignity except among the extremely devoted fans...

James and Lars live around my hometown. I see James often,
never met Lars.

St. Anger is an awesome name if you ask me, and I just
started listening to old school stuff.

For Whom the Bell Tolls rocks hard.

Tits might be right though, they are tools in the eyes of
many now.....

classic metallica is quality and... classic. there is
nothing wrong with a sharp change of direction, but i think
it's funny how concerned about their image they are. why
did they all cut their hair at the same time? i'm not one
of those people who just thinks they're weak because they
cut their hair, but it's the simotaneous group effort that i
don't get. then again, maybe they've just given their
individuality to metallica. either way, not only do i not
listen to nu-era metallica, i don't listen to any metallica
anymore. lol, maybe that makes my post less meaningful?

well, if people think Metallica are tools because of their
fuss about napster and all, that's retarded... come on... if
I spent months upon months, and millions of dollars making
an album, I wouldn't want people stealing it either... and
that's what downloading music is, it's stealing...

but, if people call them tools for their music, well that's
a different story... I really don't have much of an opinion
on Metallica as I've never been much into metal... I do love
a few songs though...

i was quite a big metallica fan a while ago, i dunno what
happened, my interest in them kinda died down a bit when i
started getting into idm and industrial music.. but i'll
definitely have a listen to the new album when it's out.. i
quite liked load and reload (not as much as justice though)
.. i like the blues-y feel to some of the tracks on load..
but i guess thats kinda because blues was the style i
learned after i learned basic guitar..

I heard metallica for the first time in 1983 (kill 'em all);
6/7 years old. I remember my brother playing it, and it went
from thereon :)

Master of Puppets is by far Metallica's Masterpiece of all
times.

Damn, I thought someone had a rip then. There's a 'demo
promo' doing the rounds but I want the real thing.

Apparently the album comes with a DVD with them rehearsing
the whole 11 tracks... a decent incentive I suppose. What
more artists should be doing really (although some cd's
recently have had some alright bonuses...)

They may be making crap now, but damn it, Master of Puppets
is a fantastic album, epic, nice melodies, fast, hard. It's
one of the best metal releases ever.

Probably most people thing IDM artist are a bunch of cunts
too? Not on xltronic but elsewhere. Metallica does have more
fans that Aphex you know ;).

"mtv icon" then the album will be pretty good.. who knows

with load an reload its fair to say they were good "rock"

"strong" releases i guess

I only like one metallica-song. What was it called again?
ehr... well can't remember. But it was the first single from
the Load album. That one was fantastic, and unlike any other
metallica-song i've ever heard. I must say though, that i
very much dislike every other piece of music i ever heard
from them. Not my kind of music.

The video was filmed in my home county, @ San Quentin
prison. After the few days of shooting (the film....) they
played a show for the inmates.

That's pretty hard, though my dad has played baseball
against the San Quentin team, and they are fucked up
inmates.

Still haven't heard shit from St. Anger, but I will listen.
