interesting that I didn't even notice the lack of a solo.

a much better hook would be "St. Anger gets no respect,
except when he comes back again"

Ok I have also just heard this new single...and well...hmmm
how can i put it nicely...LOL...fuck it, im using Echo's
line..."its kinda just not good" =)

The guitars are recorded differently and I am at odds with
the question of if LARS can still drum that fast, or was
helped by some BOB ROCK magic?...anyways, I dont know what
to think yet, I will wanna hear the whole album b 4 i rant
too much...

yeah, the new song sucks! Come on... I ain't even a metal
fan really, but dammit, give us some heavy music!!!

The new song sounds like they tried to make a heavy song
just... well for the reason of making it heavy.

Maybe they heard everyone bitching about how they got soft,
I know Pantera made fun of them plenty. Also whats with that
yelling during the chorus, it sounds ridiculous, and that
weird high pitched clang following the snare is so out of
place, unless they're going for the Slipknot sound.

I hope the album is better. Fingers crossed.

Most of metallica's new material falls into the
heavy-metal-schlock category. What was thet whole
uber-pretentious session with playing with the London
Symphonic all about? What were they trying to prove? Forget
the fact that they dissed napster, I agree with Funk on
that, bit I get the feeling that they are just too full of
themselves and their music is too contrived and angtsy to
make any sense to me. Then again, just, ME. So I am not
waiting for their new stuff. No siree, not me.

the drums sound amazing. the production on them is just VERY
VERY crisp and resonant. other htan that, i think its
garbage.

i will agree, however, that it is much better than load and
reload.

Yeah those drums are _so_ upfront, they drown the guitars!

yup, the drums sound great on that track! It's cool to hear
them doing double kick drum stuff again. not the half assed
plodding drumming that filled up most of load and reload.

I like the track except for the vocals. the melody lines
suck, the lyrics suck, and that "Push It Out" crap sucks
too. I blame Bob Rock for that. From the black album on,
Rock seems to have made James sing like he's doing a comedy
impression of himself.

Personally, I was just surprised that ol' Lars could still
do those fast 32nds on the bass drums.

NEWSFLASthe album will be available to buy TOMORROW. yes
this is highly unusual for a release to be available midweek
but its their attempt to beat the pirates which (apparently)
seems to have worked. has it been leaked?

I'm not buying this. The purchasing queue in front of it is
too long, and the new song is flaccid.

I'll happily download it for completist purposes though!

I'm positively suprised by the new song st. anger...
especially its drum sound! :)
seriously the drums sound like a goat was pissing into matal
bucket...

reminds me a bit of justice for all, the drum sound was very
unique there as well...

That Pitchfork review is one of the most pretentious I've
ever read. No doubt it's accurate, but please, leave the
wankery to the times Literary Supplement.

Been listening to it on and off, haven't really studied it
fully yet. It's by no means a 0.8 but it's not a killer
either - the first two tracks are perhaps the weakest, and
the production is very strange (Sine pointed out the Justice
comparison and while it doesn't sound like that album it
does have a weird drum sound).
Seems the entire album is in dropped d, which is a shame as
it immediately distances them from their classic album
sound. Indeed some comparisons I made were Slipknot,
Mudvayne and Kyuss - but all falling short of those artists
(of which only the last I really like).
Not too keen on James' frayed "madness" screaming - sounds
weak - and the lack of guitar solos is another worrying nod
to nu-metal, which they seem to be trying to incorporate
(albiet in textures rather than songwriting).
'Shoot Me Again' is probably the one I like best, but I
can't see this album ever getting more than a 6/10 for me,
maybe 7 at a push. It could end up with a 2 with the benefit
of hindsight I suppose.

I totally agree, I skipped the pseudo literate bullshit and
skipped ahead to where I saw words like ''guitar'' and
''Hetfield'', sentences that actually TOLD ME ABOUT THE
FUCKING ALBUM.

Of course I've heard it already anyway, and it's not the
travesty that some say, but it IS the worst Metallica album
yet.

I actually liked Load and Reload a lot.
