That'd be cool the quality stayed the same. I just used a pencil and paper and imagination, and sort of the technique I mentioned in my "static tv" post.

I made both of them, but the geometric one took a lot less thought and imagination. For the geometric one, I wanted to experiment quickly with the idea of using multiple textures at once (in this case obviously square thingies + line thingies) Since they are both made of the same black small pixels, they sort of blend into one weirder texture. Although it usually can work better than that. Also don't be fooled by the mirrored symmetry aesthetic. The only part I did is the top half and top left. The rest is just mirrored.

A metal sign? hmm. that's a weird interpretation, almost as weird as "it looks like a peeled bannana". The textures probably didn't unite well in the geometric one because in the line texture, all the line angles are slanted and in the square texture, they all are at right angles up and down. I have about 15 or so drawings I think are as good as the bottom one on my page and a whole mess of other drawings that aren't as good. I stopped drawing quite abrubtly some time ago though.

I hated realistic drawing and that's what most art classes were about. I kinda liked it as a recording of imagination that you can observe later. I'm just not interested in drawing real things. Technology has made doing that obsolete (why not take a picture, or project a picture on the wall and trace it?) I've drawn weird perverted faces and things, but they were imagined and not realistic. I guess I eventually mostly liked abstract things, but I havn't even drawn anything in a long time. I probably made this like 3-5 years ago (I keep such great track of time, probably because every day is the same)

what do you mean by format? I just used a pencil and a piece of typing paper. The actual drawing was only 1.5 times the size of the post nacmat did too (I draw really small- which makes sense since it limits the work you have to do)

But the thing is: you learned realistic drawing. Thats important. Even tho it might not interest you, its the key to a good technique, and thereafter giving your pictures soul. its also the thing that impresses the chicks the most!

Those are much better quality, but they're not imagined and weird. ex. onions and garlic: this makes me laugh. Who'd want a picture of onions and garlic?? The idea of a child in a puzzle who is putting it's own puzzle together is interesting and sort of paradoxal, but still the images are realistic. I havn't really checked out much historically popular art like dali and escher etc.

I admire J.D Hilberry for the technique, but i find his motives and "feel" quite mediocore. He's not wery good at portraits, because i find it looks like a drawing, instead of something real. He lacks the magical element. i also find the motives to sentimental and "kitch" in some way. but still, fucking scary photorealistic tech! (i ordered the book by the way, i can give you feedback if its any good =))
BTW, you seem to take drawing rather seriusly.... what do you do for a living/what are you studying? I'm just an amateour with an extremely high interest myself, and i want to go to the design school and learn animation or illustration or something. something creative! unfortunately i cant show you some of my own work, as i have no scanner, but i havent created as many interesting works, as i have created photorealistic drawings etc. that the art schools want ( i am pretty good at this tho). phew that was long!

yeah, a lot of people get frustrated that drawing classes make you draw things from observation, rather from your imagination..
their intention isnt making you learn how to draw still ife objects or nude models..just how to translate what you see on to paper more effectively
once you have that skill, you can use the same techniques to transfer things from your mind
but.. that last paragraph was somewhat irrelivent, judging by the drawing, you already seem to be a skilled draughtsman, m.. whereas a lot of the kids i hear complaining about not being able to draw from their imagination in classes arent.

actually, I briefly experimented making my own style with realistic drawing by combining odd things I saw in magazines etc together. That's pretty fun to do because you can make technically complicated nonsense. Thanks for the feedback.
I need to check out deviant art more. It's kinda hard to understand the interface though. Is there a link with all the drawings specifically by you? I saw the turtle one but is there more? There was a grid on the bottom left with lots of pictures and the static tv one had some awesome stuff.

I think I'm going to read as much as I can about imagination to understand it better, and also try to actually use it seriously. The most powerful tool, by far, for processing and creating has been in our heads but I've stopped putting it to really good use. Proof is the richard d. james album since I believe he created those tracks in a dream like state, and dreams themselves. Autechre and aphex are good thinkers but they can work naturally with computers too. The computer is a very powerful augmentation of their imagination, especially aphex. (I'm not sure how much of autechre is the computer's themselves thinking.) Teach a computer to imagine abstract things, now that's an interesting idea. Thanks for looking. I'll check out that surrealist link fleaf.

im surprised you havent looked more into the surrealists, m.. they were all about imagination and trying to depict things from it
you would probably be well into edward gorey.. he was an illustrator/writer who made really bizarre books that seem like theyre for children, but often have sinister undertones
here's one of his books online, its sort of his own version of the 'choose your own adventure' concept
the raging tide, or the black doll's imbroglio"
