It is very good, although almost joyous compared to other
some merzbow.

I remember people saying (when GG came out) that it "makes
no sense" and is "just noise". Then Satanstornade came out
on warp and I really laughed in anticipation of thousands of
warp-lovers who are completely baffled by hearing it and
saying "But, surely, this is not music!!!"

You're kidding, right? I have over 30 merzbow releases and
have listened to all of them more than once.

But, OK, you're a sadist, maybe you need to be a masochist
to like this kind of music (lame joke, I know).

hour continuosly

Or maybe it just comes out that way for me because I don't

i thought they picked the best sample for that, but actually
i prefer track 1 and 4
especially 4th starts great

Really? I thought track three had the best start. Track 4
just kicks the door in and takes you by storm, no?

offline sadist from the dark side of the moon on 2002-12-26 05:24 [#00491477]

i just can't believe that they are making money with
something like this... or even trying to make money... i
can't say i could make something like THIS myself... but
playing aorund with heavy distortion and some cool edit
tricks i could make some noise too

offline Meho Krljic from Beograd (Yugoslavia) on 2002-12-26 05:27 [#00491479]

Dude, merzbow/akita has over two hundred releases out there.
So, there definitely is an audience for his music. Plus, if
you took time to listen to some of the other noise, you'd
probably understand what makes him stick out. I think that
Warp did this just to show that they are strong enough to be
able to present something really out there to their already
stereotyped audience, without having to worry about low
sales.

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2002-12-26 05:29 [#00491480]

Maybe the track sequence is different on my CD. The track I
am talking about has some almost rhythmic breaks at the
beginning before going all out and attacking.

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2002-12-26 05:30 [#00491483]

actually, when i first heard that sample on warp i thought
this is really wicked
now that i listened to the whole thing i actually find it
quite melodic

Sadist: I actually agree with you. Turning Akita's music
into yet another commodity, a trendy thing would be
horrendous. However, as long as he makes music as extreme as
this, we're still far from that point.

track 3 on album its titled track 5

that's what i mean... people get used to this and when they
hear some melodical stuff they say "booooring"

Points: 6617 Status: Addict | Followup to tolstoyed: #00491483

It is quite melodic. Haswell has been using some samples
that sound to me as distorted rock loops. That second track
in particular. It's almost a bubblegum-pop version of
merzbow.

Points: 8670 Status: Lurker | Followup to Meho Krljic: #00491484

yes....but there will be something new in the future and the
things we call "extreme" now, will become "normal"

one thing is certain-this musi isnt that great if you listen
to it at low volume :)
perhaps i'll get over that after i give it a bit more
listening :)

Tolstoyed, well, that's of no help as I have no idea if it
was properly tagged on slsk.

Sadist: But, come on, I am a big merzbow fan and I still
enjoy melodic stuff.

Sadist: well, true, however, merzbow's music has been called
extreme for the best part of the last 20 years. He just
holds nothing back.

Tolstoyed: well, volume is important when it comes to
merzbow, but it's not everything, there's a lot of fine
detail in there that would be interesting on low volume too.

here's a funny fact
i cant prepare myself to really like autechre and i have
about 6 or 7 of their albums-they just sound "cold" to me
this satanstornade thing is totally different-i liked it the
first time i heard it

Well, what's the problem with that? To each their own, I
say. If you like melodies and have no interst to listen to
Merzbow whatsoever, well, I will try to explain my views to
you but ultimately will respect yourt choice. And
vice-versa, if you like atonal or noisy stuff only, you
definitely are missing out a lot, but, hey, that's your
choice.

No shit? Well, I can relate to that to an extent. Autechre
at first do sound cold and machinic, but are in fact very
complex and even organic at spots...

im kind of affraid to get into this merzbow or satanstornade
like music too much, because i might miss too much of other
stuff that is being released

only autechre thing i can say i like (conditionaly) are the
peel sessions and confield

Tolstoyed: no, man, get everything that you like. There's so
much good music out there that it is hard to keep track of
everything, that's true, but still, it depends on your
preferences, no? If you, like me, need to have more noisy
stuff, why stop yourself. It's not like all those records
are the same...

Sadist: maybe, but who cares, I don't go around analyzing
people for their reasons of listening to the music...

Well, confield IS the best, it's the least machinic of all.
But I really, really like all of their stuff. It's just so
complex, as i already said...

perhaps this track was ment to be broadcasted by radio
