Oh, I was just asking as in my language "Gljivice" would
mean tiny mushrooms. What does Gliwice mean then?

And what is the title of that Zorn/Akita colaboration? I
have never heard of it.

i would check it on tzadik website- this collabo. (i am sure
that merzbow released something under tzadik label- and i ve
heard that he was making something with zorn)

and gliwice mean nothing :o)

He did realise 1930 on tzadik and zorn is probably listed
there as executive producer as he is on all tzadik releases.
He didn't contribute to it in any "real" way that matters,
tho.

Huh, how can you have a city name that means nothing?

i dont know how- but it may mean something in german- this
city was called Gliwitz.
and i saw something in one of the music stores in cracow- a
lp of a group in which zorn, frisell and someone else were-
and i think that akita was cooperating with them too. but i
am not sure now :o)

i cant find anything about zorn/akita collabo on
allmusic.com so maybe it was just a dream...

does anyone actually own the merzbox? 50 cd boxset is
outrageous, how much does that cost anyways?

offline uzim on 2002-12-26 13:49 [#00491795]

about $500, or $600... limited to 1000 copies...

here is a picture of it probably.
here you have an "official" section of extreme
about it (banned in china because of the photographs and
artwork...)

Meho:
1276- first written mention about Gliwice, that has
remained.
the name "Gliwice"probably comes from an old-polish language
word "gliwy", wich means "a muddy lands", "clays" or smth
like that
There are a few other hypotheses though :)
Gliwice is also the city, where the Second World War has
started. It was the german city at the time(called Gleiwitz).
The Germans attacked
the german crew of the Radio Station in Gliwice. They
was pretending polish soliders (uniforms and stuff) - it was
31.08.1939. It gave them a pretext
to attack Poland.
It's all a bit more complicated, but my english is poor, and
I'm lazy.

i've seen something that was called merzbox on soulseek, but
i think it was only fake... i'm curious if anyone bought it

There is a merzbox sampler that has 10 or eleven tracks and
that might have been what you've seen.

Oh, and, don't worry, enough people have bought Merzbox, as
it was actually financed by subscriptions.

uzim: what is this in your avatar...i really like it...

i just listened to unlock the misteries of the sun and i
realised that this is a heavy metal song heavy distorted...
when you listen to it good then you can hear some electric
guitar playing in the background. anyone else hear that ?

i haven't got satanstornade yet, but im intending to (got
the newish snares single for christmas, thats hardcore
enough!).

sadist i can see your 'i could do that' point, but the fact
is that you probably would never have thought of doing
something so extreme, and you probably wouldn't know where
to start if you wanted it to sound good. merzbow does not
have any restraint - he doesn't often seem to fall back on
melody etc to make a track sound more normal...

saw a four cd merzbow release the other day..something about
24 hours of seals or something. very nearly splashed out
£23 for the hell of it...anyone know if this is any good?
worth it like?

i think massimo did a smak side (on skam) and i listened to
it on the cd...didnt think much to it, it was tuneful not
very noisy.

"if you wanted it to sound good" - can something like this
sound good ? i can't imagine that they sat in their studio
and listened to their stuff and thought: "oh ! we should
change that...", "sure, this sounds not good..."

yeah i know what you mean sadist...i think the album was
taken from akita/ haswell improvisation sessions...i reckon
they knew what they were doing though! i still need to hear
the whole album..

i think that you could have good and bad noise... merzbow
injects a lot of imagination into what sounds like a bit of
a conceptual thing that would actually be a bit boring. is
that the 'seals' tracklist uzim? cheers dude.

i think this too. i just made my first satanstornade song
for myself. i have fucked up my own song in cool edit.
sounds cool. one thing os true: i would never give something
like this to people when i would be the first person who
made something like this...
