Autechre - Exai

Their best album so far, in my opinion. They've managed to
incorporate all their skills - successfully - in a stunning
volume of genuinely interesting music. I must admit I really
did not believe that they still could have a record like
this in them.

Yep, Exai IS the TRUE Autechre MASTERPIECE!

XI

It's ridiculously, implausibly good. "Strong release" is an
understatement.

Dont get me wrong i like your cock, but the pirated version
of the new autechre isnt as satisfying as a real female
cunt.

First impressions: very favorable. Not sure if it will
unseat Confield as my favorite Autechre album, but I've only
listened to Exai twice through so far.

how do you people have enough time in the day to have
listened to this album so many times already? i was only
able to get half-way thru this morning, although thoroughly
enjoyed all of what i heard.

i'm stuck at jatavee C which has beautiful spectrum graph
patterns (checking them waves in my foobar0 and so far it
indeed sounds like a very approachable album. it took me
yonks to appreciate Oversteps which I hated innitially, in
comparison.

and now track 5 makes me click preorder.

bless you Ae you're like good wine

turned the lights out as recommended by autechre, decided to
use headphones to hear it loud, as my wife was sleeping.

I drank almost a litre of jamaican rum last night, this was
not a good mix with autechre so it was a flop. i had to bail
out half way through irlite as i started feeling rather
unwell... megatrax was right!

so i haven't really had time to listen yet, but i've skipped
through a few tracks to preview them, all of them sound full
on!

I was lucky enough to have a few days off from work and the
missus away with most of our kids at the same time so I'm
just plain lucky this time I guess... busy being a robot and
shit

"Exai" - noun - f - the sudden disappearance of useless
cravings for new BOC releases.

Still not my cup of tea, although some tracks contain more
melodic elements then past material.

review in short: yes, this is definitely an autechre album.
some good tracks, some bad ones. i don't know the names yet,
so i'll hold off on saying which i like for now. it's better
than their last two albums, but doesn't unseat my previous
favorites of tri repeatae and draft.

co-existence has it nailed: when else do you sit down and
dedicate two hours to ~really~ listening to something? that
you're giddy about receiving, to the point where you
download obviously fake leaks just 'cos of that little bit
of hope they're real? when you finally get this coveted
album, might the special treatment you've been giving it
make it impossible for you to judge it objectively?
something to consider....

bladelores reminds me of jamming on a monobasssynth with a
heavy fucking reverb choir going on in the background and
some acid head drummer freaking out on his new appreciation
of electronic hi-hats

imo, this isn't "listening to in headphones in a dark room"
kind of music. This is really good background music for a
heavy session of programming or in dept statistical
analysis. I was playing this while doing exactly that
earlier today and it sounded like the best thing Autechre
had ever made. Later on I tried listening to it with more
attention and it didn't sound as good.

offline EpicMegatrax from Greatest Hits on 2013-02-09 03:43 [#02449113]

it's good they've moved on to making music for statistical
analysis, bald germans in anoraks can't support them forever

i sent an email offering my help in fixing things, but no
reply as of yet. if that ever comes to pass, though, i will
be sure to play exai in the background. which track do you
think is best for replacing the bits where it uses
deprecated PHP functions ???

With all their previous releases they reeducated our
palette, and now as a reward they have delivered this feast
that seems to encompass everything that came before but in
myriad, varying, delightful ways. THIS IS AUTECHRE.

I agree about this being an album to not dedicate your
attention. Instead it works best while doing some other
kind of work and you just subtly slip into this weird
world...

It's as good as Confield and then better than all the other
albums that came after that..so in sum it IS better than
Confield.

Exai is basically ep7.3 through ep7.6 and thus a direct
continuation of their GREATEST WORK EVER!

In the meantime I can see this album seriously corrupting my

I forgot to say I love nodezsh, it's like aliens invading
earth at the beginning with explosions and the sad music,
then as the track evolves the explosions stop and th music
morphs in to the alien voices, greta stuff!

I love how you can hear what soundd like Oasis at the end of
the fantastic Bladlores as well, the recks on beat etc wow
so many great bits.

Thanks Autechre.

Hope to see you live again!

The perfect combination of their last few years of vicious,
complex ventures combined with elements of their early
melodic years.

Well constructed as an album too. It seems I may be able to
add this to only small group of albums i can listen to all
the way through.
