Its all good/quirky/its a trappy, but I like all before :34
best (and after 1:28). Bass drum might sound more gangsta if
like 4x volume (and snaredrum too maybe not sure)

oooh im liking some of the stereo stuff going on with the
little vocal bits, very cool stuff there.

i'd agree with wmw, but instead of increasing volume, maybe
just layer another kick with the low end eq'd out? imo 808s
work best with some other, more aggressive midrangy kick
(like in my linked track)

good stuff tho, the melody is killer, and it doesn't have
any "whuh" or "yeahs" on the up-beat, which is always a
plus.

would love to hear what you think of mine, seems we're
moving along the same trajectory, kind of. maybe a collab in
the futures?

I haven't been as entertained by something new as I was by
that video/track combo Epic, thanks for that. I don't think
I'd listen to the track by itself, though some of the
percussive parts and the bass drop at 0:51 are fairly tasty

i love that sound design in the track of yours. although the
ideas wear out a little after 2 minutes i would prefer
either something suprising or just cutting it off as it will
still be a perfect tool for playing. as far as i understand
this is meant to be more sketch. still i forwarded it to my
dj friend.

all in all, love your approach - listened to a few other
tracks and i'm quite suprised that i haven't visited your
profile before. but ye, talking about strict inteligence my
track is definitely pre-school-era.

although my statement about the length of the track also
applies to your other stuff. imho the whole essence of this
type of music is to make the tracks as compact as possible.
i know from a dj-stand-point that it is pretty much
difficult not to drop the next track after a minute or so.

as to these comments towards my track:

- the vocals ar actually totally stolen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NGoZuxzuBk&t=1m10s.
used these a few times. can;t be arsed about sample
clearance. as you can see that weird panning is basically
built in.
- the problem with the bass drum is that darksideish bass
which uses just so much bottom end in this track. actually
before i applied that heavy side-chain on top of it the
kickdrum was barely audible even being much louder than the
rest of the channels. one idea that came to my mind is to
hipass that darksideish bass a bit, add an 808 kick as
mentioned and repeat the melody, which might end up quite
cool.
- problem is with the mastering that it is pretty crude with
a stock ableton multiband comp on the master just trying to
glue shit together.
- actually i am thinking of erasing that beginning and end
part with that very atmospheric synth and using the preset
in another track. i stumbled about it when searching for
other sounds and now i think i might give it another chance
by itself.

- still, as for about 7-8 hours of work, no experience
whatsoever in syncopated sounds, hip-hop, trap music,
sampling, i am pretty much pleased with the outcome.

- well this doesn't really work with that 808 bass
LAZY_bass. i got the impression that making the kick
loudr by even a fraction just makes the track sound like
from a behind a door. also that darkside bass just doesn't
work anymore without the bottom.

- i actually exported this two times in wav, as again i have
just realised how much really mp3 kills bass. actually tbh
when i listend to the first version in wav already the kick
seems too overpowered for me.

i'm pretty much deaf for today.

also, thanks for the input d0000d! i've been working on
making my tracks more compact, first draft usually ends up
at like 8 minutes! altho from a dj standpoint i kind see it
as having to different parts you could spin out.

more than anything, im so sick of hearing tracks out that
literally just copy and paste the second half of the song!
so i guess i gravitate towards the polar opposite of that.

urbandictionary, of all fings, has a definition:

"In laymen’s terms, Trap music would be best described
as a recipe;

1/3 hip hop (tempo and song structure similar) – however
vocals are usually pitched lower or higher
1/3 dubstep (similar drum arrangements, different builds and
drops)
1/3 dub (Low frequency focus and strong emphasis on
repetitiveness throughout a song)"

that's still pretty vague; hardly a genre of its own

hedphukker how many trap or juke mutations are going around

at this point it doesn't seem like there's any kind of
subdivision yet - everyone's still just under the umbrella
of trap as far as i can tell. i mean, it took till 2010 for
terms like post-dubstep and future garage to seep out, so i
think we've still got a lil time on our hands.

keep in mind tho that swag came from lowbrow hiphop like lil
b, and yolo came from Drake, neither of which are
particularly trappy (especially not drake!).

Uggh, I'll be sticking to Drumma Boy, Shawty Redd, Southside
etc. Who have been doing really interesting things within
certain limits (which is for the best imo) for years. I can
see things getting a bit embarrassing once the sound is
recontextualised within EDM.

Also I wouldn't be so sure about the time on your side
thing, before the footwork producers from chicago even had a
proper look in there were trendy white boys swarming all
over their sound desperate to look like the coolest fags
out. Honestly haven't heard 10 tracks that I even liked out
of that scene (the parasitic one, not the original).

what would you list as the parasitic scenes? shit like

know what you mean. i really dont want to make parasitic
stuff and i feel quite often that i am. i probably need some
better influences

you're totally right that the time it takes for white guys
with beards to appropriate a grassroots scene is truncating
rapidly.

fortunately, it also leads to the scene getting burnt out
pretty quickly. this time last year everyone was making juke
and footwork, but now it's back to mostly the dudes who were
originating the sound in chicago.

I agree. Sorry, I didn't mean to come across like a dick,
but I am uneasy with certain scenes appropriating the sounds
of others. I don't know why I find it so disheartening,
could be selfishness.

I am not clued up, i don't know what seapunk is. Don't read
too much into the parasitic thing, wrong choice of words. I
know things generally don't work this way but I just want
people to make more of an effort to make a scene of their
own instead of appropriating other (often highly regional)
music. This would be the opposite to what I've seen recently
where, like as hedphukkerr said, the scene gets burnt out
pretty quickly. Regional rap scenes are sort of touching
point for me here, these scenes didn't make themselves
overnight, and they have distinguishing aspects away from
the rap scene in general.
