The Wrestler (Aronofsky)

I watched it last night, and it was really good. a bit hard
to watch at times, especially the scene in the wardrobe
after the first match, and the broken relationship with his
daughter.

There are also some really good directional moves which
draws parallells to wrestling stardom, and the reality of
life.

Mickey Rourke is nothing but fantastic in "The Wrestler",
and has resurrected like his character in the film. His
portrayal of a broken, beaten down soul is Oscar-worthy

9/10

I didn't really enjoy watching it because it was filled with
elements I try to avoid in everyday life, such as 80s metal,
wrestling, trailer park dwellers, ugly men, trashy women
with kids, and emotional girls with daddy issues.
Nevertheless, it was a well made film, probably a 4/5, even
though I didn't like it.

I'm looking forward to seeing it, looks like the Jake the
Snake portion from Beyond the Mat. Right down to the
daughter thing.

Excellent performance from Mickey Rourke, but pretty average
film overall. The second half of the film seems hurried,
specifically the relationship with his daughter which almost
seemed like an afterthought in the way and speed in that it
was handled.

Marisa Tomei is so hot in that movie ! It's cool that CZW is
in it ! The hardcore match is against a real wrestler, just
youtube CZW it's really over the top.

Aronofsky is great. I even liked The Fountain, in fact
adored its pulse and computer game aesthetics. I look
forward to this one.

I loved the fountain. i liked it more than pi actually. i
just cant get over how he did the special effects in space.
its all super microscopic photography of chemical reactions,
not just cg crap, but actual photography.

Not a bad movie. Didn't like the scripted dialogue though,
nor the cinematography. The movie itself was pretty good,
despite these problems.

Reminded me, surprisingly enough, more of Kim Ki-Duk or
Clint Eastwood than any of the previous Aronofskies.

8/10

8/10

saw it yesterday

it just could have been better

i like it because that whole american wrestling thing is
pretty special.

i can't really go into rourke because then i have to think
about how the movie could have been better. the movie shows
his life sucks, but the things they use to show that aren't
too original: his daughter doesn't like him, he lives in a
trailer park and stuff.
i did like marisa tomei's part, it wasn't too original
either but good nonetheless, i think. she made him say my
favorite line of the movie: 'The only place I get hurt is
out there.'
special mention goes to the supermarket boss, 'no, your
special' made me laugh. and the whole part was realistic

strange, i thought it was the best film he has made, his
other films are good in parts but this one is the only one
where he get it all right imo.

ive always had a sensation of emptyness with aronofsky's
films,
lots of artifact, style experimentation, and even beauty,
but like they lack something inside...
i hope this one will be more introspective and calm and well
etc

yea, it just doesn't feel like aronofsky, except for the
typical soullessness and hollowness. wow, that sounds
horrible... but it's still a pretty good movie. But no
MTV-style editing or computer special effects?? It's just
not an Aronofsky film.
