I found ghosts to be a bit boring, try Final-One for a far more interesting record with a similar 'feel'.
I hope this is better

It is a lot better than ghosts, but you still CAN'T get that WOW feeling when you could wait and wait for years for a new release.
this one seems to have been produced/manufactured very fast - which is not that bad since you know that Finck (he's ace) replaced that emo shit North - but i think that, even though i really like this download release, i'm a fan of a Fragile CD1 era NIN, i think.
More depth, please

i am shocked anyone on xltronic would consider this better than ghosts (i would not be shocked however if they also simultaneously think smojphace is Aphex twins best work)

There's some good stuff here. I'd place its sound somewhere between Year Zero and Ghosts. Upon first listen anyway, it seems like a pretty logical direction for nine inch nails. I'm a fan and I'm pleased with this.

I really can't see what that "direction" is - pretty hate machine, broken and the downward spiral all sounds different too me, but all really good. the fragile/with teeth/year zero/the slip is just a blur with someone yelling & trying to sound emotional backed with disted drums... The direction is loop?
(but - just listened once yet to the slip, that pianopiece and the low dronepiece with actually be something.....bearable?)

I like it about as much as Ghosts.
In the end you can't really complain about a free album... at least he's not "selling out"... probably costs HIM money to host this stuff.

Corona Radiata and The Four of Us are Dying are brilliant, the poppier tracks like Echoplex are way better than the ones on with teeth. There are a couple of tracks i don't care for but overall i really like it, and its free, who can complain.

er yeah... listened to a few tracks and I really liked them actually, I've yet to check the whole album.
I listened to the whole of Ghosts I... hmm some bits were great but on the whole there was too much filler material that let it down as an album. it was free anyways, so I'm not complaining.

Thumbs up. I like The Slip (especially digging "Echoplex"), but yet again its NIN, meaning there is little surprise here.
I'm still waiting to here something from Trent that will make me say "Wow! That's NIN? It sounds so completely different!"

its better than Year Zero and With Teeth.
Plus I like that it has a relatively short running length. Trim a couple tracks off, and this one could be as tight as Broken EP was.

i think 'echoplex' is up there with some of his best work... the tension from 2:50ish on is amazing... you know when a song just loops and loops, but it's fucking amazing... and i love the lalalala's..... i agree with the lazy drum programming comment, but for some reason in echoplex (possibly the laziest drums he's done in a long time) it seems to add to the greatness...
...nowhere near his best album 'echoplex' and 'lights in the sky' tho are nearly his best songs ever...
my opinion james.

The first nin you heard, eh?
I'll tell you what's good. Get Fixed and Further Down the Spiral. They are both rmx EPs featuring Aphex, Coil, JG Thirwell (Foetus, Steriod Maximus, Venture Brothers soundtrack).
The proper albums they support, Broken and The Downward Spiral are pretty good too but, the rmxs are more instrumental with less vocals.

Fixed while looking rather pretty is the most terribly unexciting thing they ever put out. all the remixes are really bad. Further Down the Spiral was the best of the remix records and Things Falling Apart wasn't that bad either but any one of the main records put the remix EPs to
shame as they should.

ok so withdraw that, and instead the march of the pigs single has some good mixes, particularly the reptilian mx.
