kill bill vol. 2

rocked.

better than volume 1 in my opinion. kinda more typical
tarentino, lots more dialog. nobody was killed with a
sword. the whole chapter with pai mei was badass.

discuss...

still haven't seen the first....

still don't have any volition to. I'm sure ill eventually
see them at a friend's place or something (and ill probably
like them at least mildly), but I don't feel the need to
drop what I'm doing to go watch them.

i thought it was awsome.

i really liked Budd, Michael Madsen's character. the fallen
samurai.

it was a bit anti-climactic, compared to the first half but
as a complete unit, part 2 very well compliments part 1. i
have no complaints.

offline Amnesiac from ERIE (United States) on 2004-04-18 20:20 [#01149407]

yeah.

he filmed it all as one movie but they said it was too long
so he cut it in half. it IS one movie.

i loved it.

offline Dozier from United States on 2004-04-18 20:32 [#01149412]

i thought they were both good movies, but they hardly felt
like two parts that make a whole. they were just
so...opposite and extreme. one was practically all
action, and the other was practically all character
development. both were done great, but since they were
separated it made the movies feel uneven to me. throw in the
fact that really only one character (the bride) caries over
between the two movies. all of this isn't a bad thing. it is
experimental. and i'm really glad it was done!

ah - i loved it - best flick ive seen for a while. (i expect
this to be the best film (part) of the year)

it was awesome! i think i liked vol 1 a little more - it
had a lot more action scenes. but vol 2 had a lot of other
really memorable stuff. i would really like to see them
both back to back - that would probably enhance the
experience of vol 2.

i thought the ending was great.

kinda like a sentimental breakup in a relationship between
two old friends that still respect each other...

...and are vengeful samurai.

sorry guys, but i didn't like it, i felt... disappointed in
a lot of respects. The first one had huge climaxes to the
duels, and some great feeling when it came to the making of
the sword.

not to mention the anime sequence. I guess I was expecting
the same techniques in Vol 2.

offline epohs from )C: on 2004-04-19 07:09 [#01149793]
Points: 17620 Status: Lurker

i thought the lack of an ultraviolent climax was really
cool.

the surprise, and quick change of pace when she finally gets
to bill was very nicely done imo. don't get me wrong, i
really liked the almost collage nature of vol. 1. the over
stylization was very entertaining.

I absolutely loved vol.2, I loved everything about the movie
and it was definetly very tarentino film making, but I think
the second one is much more fun then the first one so I
think vol.1 is better. STILL they both compliment eachother,
after seeing the first one it was like one long movie.

i love the bit where the bride catches Bill's sword in her
sheath. a somewhat erotic metaphore for their relationship.

i also really like the theme of Samurai honor. and the idea
that the Viper Assasination Squad killed the Bride for
leaving "the life." But 4 years later, Budd, Vivica and
O-Ren have all left "the life" in their own way and they all
understand how this makes them further indebted to her. By
the Samurai code, the bride not only deserves revenge, but
she is obliged to take it, or suffer a loss of honor
herself.

*** SPOILERS ***

&npsp;

yeah, they definately killed her because she left the group.
but, i think the group as a whole kinda split up afterwards
because bill started taking care of the child.

i got claustrophobic as hell when she was burried alive.
damn, seemed to be 5 minutes of darkness, where all you
heard was dirt falling on the casket and her freaking out.
that shit was intense.

AND HOW SHE CRAWLED OUT WAS FUCKING AMAZING!

no way. michael madsen's character is cool because he is a
fallen samurai. he is old, fat, pathetic which is an exact
opposite to what he must have been. if he were to actually
have a kick ass fight scene, it would undermine the very
nature of his character which is that of a man who has lost
all his samurai nobility.

***spoilers***

i agree. that's what makes them so much more deserving of
the brides vengence. They killed her for leaving the group,
but then 4 years later, they all kinda leave the
group themselves. Vernita is trying to have a family, Budd
is a washed up drunk bouncer, O-Ren has started her own
underworld crime syndicate. i think the characters
understand that this hypocracy makes them more deserving of
death.

of couse that comment should be taken with a grain of salt
as you hope all movies end with, "a good blood opera
shoot-out."

Just the other day he told me, "Eternal Sunshine of the
Spotless Mind was pretty good, I wished it ended with a
good blood opera shoot-out, but...well...maybe in a sequel"

spoilers {

i can't remember, was it explicitly said that they did what
they did to her just because she tried to leave the life? my
impression was that that was just bill's reaction to having
found out that she basically left him for someone else.
there's no question he was in love with her. that's my take
on it.

/* start spoilers */

also, i think it's really interesting that the only one of
the DiVAS who really 'defeated' The Bride was Buddy. he had
her down and could have easily dispensed with her.

also, we never know for sure if Elle dies! i mean, we can
assume so because it's the whole point of the movie, but
realistically she may have survived. she only had her other
eye pulled out..

/* end spoilers */

I agree with Dozier's first post regarding the film (saw it
last night), good stuff but odd all the same.

What really annoys me - if completely unsurprising - is the
statement by the head of Miramax regarding the DVDs:

Miramax COO Rick Sands recently told the New York Times:
"Vol. 1 goes out, Vol. 2 goes out, then Vol. 1 Special
Edition, Vol. 2 Special Edition, the two-pack, then the
Tarantino collection as a boxed set for Christmas. ... It's
called multiple bites at the apple."

Pure fucking robbery.
