What's worse is that there's gonna be extras randomly scattered between them. BASTARDS!
Except for the first two DVDs. Shit all on them,

Yeah, I just got the DVD of the first one, and can vouch that it does indeed have "shit all" extras. Mega films, though.

I though that he should have saved some of the fight scens from the first one in the seccond one to even it out a bit
I'm quite curious to see if my opinion will change any after watching it as one whole film, as he's bound to stick it all on one dvd
I hope he does an un edited version too

I watched vol. 1 at my friends house (i wasn't really excited to see it). When it started I was really surprised (I didn't know it was a tarantino film). Anyway, after watching the first half i went immediately to the theaters to see the second and loved it.

Shit yeah, that'd be damn tidy of you :D Postage from Japan's a bitch though isn't it? It's insane that the scene was even altered like that never mind only one country ever gets to see and buy it.

i kinda liked the way it was so unbalanced. i don't really know why, but the sudden change of pace was surprising, and refreshing.
*** SLIGHT SPOILER ***
also, the big change of pace/slowdown when she finally met bill was such a badass idea by tarantino. everyone is expecting some explosive ass battle scene, but instead the pace nearly stops, and you see bill make a sandwich for his little girl. fucking beautiful if you ask me.

Something about these films bothered me though. I could never really put my finger on it, maybe it's style over content, or the fact that nothing surprising ever happens, or that some scenes are way overlong (Budd's chapter especially) and filled with dull and bland characters/plot points. Tedg, as ever, has an interesting spin on things (vol 1 only). link

budd's chapter was prolly my favorite.
the fallen samurai, lost all of his honor, forgot his training, is basically a complete slob. yet, he's the only one who actually bested the bride.

One little detail (slightly annoying):
In the end Bill and the bride are sitting at the table talking.
Bill drinks Brandy? Whisky?
I tried to see which label.
Picture off Bill.
Picture on again:
Someone turned the booze bottle, now you can't see the lable anymore.
Picture off Bill.
Picture on again:
Someone turned the booze bottle again, now you can see a tiny bit of the booze label.
WTF?

the multiple releases on dvd is a complete ripoff, and to do it so blatantly due to greed. they're basically punishing the real fans of the movie. fuckwads.
anyway, i wanted to correct myself about the bride being the only character of any significant screen time that carries over from vol 1 to vol 2: i forgot about elle. she doesn't have a lot of screen time in vol 1, but she does have some.
yavo, i agree about there being a nagging little voice that tells me despite how awesome it seems there is something wrong here, and i think maybe you hit it on the head. as beautiful a movie as it is, there are some parts that are downright boring. it might go away once i've got the vol 2 on dvd and i really get into the characters and acting. i think the problem with vol 2 was i kept expecting it to pick up (with some action) and besides for a couple small parts it really didn't. again, i think the expectations i had are mostly responsible for what i didn't enjoy.

I haven't seen any of these films yet, but if you wanna see a great film that was a big inspiration to tarentino. Rent "master of the flying guillotine". This film basically invented the anti gravity/super power kung fu that is ripped off endlessly these days.
