And I have to say, that boss battle is one of the most difficult and satisfying I have had in some time. You probably won't even guess who the boss is.
The ending was not the best I had ever seen, nor the worst. However, I did feel satisfied with it, as it leaves the game open for a sequel, and it also names the entire cast at the end, including basic enemies. Wheeee!
Anyways, I had to beat it on KIDS difficulty, but it was still a challenge nonetheless, I was at the final stage on ADULTS difficulty and was stuck, so I played KIDS, but now that I know what the hell to do, I'm going to go back and try beating it on ADULTS, though I am sure it will be a task.

Joe's missus?
I'm stuck on that level with the tank near the start (and the jump jet shortly afterwards). The game is a nice idea, but there's something that feels "off" about it, dunno whether it's the collison detection or what, but it's not as tight/precise as say, Mario/Castlevania/Metroid platformers.

pretty hard game : )
my brother is playing in 'adults' mode and he's stuck at the shark, with its fucking 5x- and regenerating- life bar...
i haven't really been captivated by that game, even though it seems pretty cool. i don't know, sometimes there are great games which doesn't catch my attention that much.
the game which remains a model for me in terms of difficulty is Ikaruga - it is hard, but it manages to be not so frustrating, you don't feel like the game cheats and when you lose a life or even a continue you don't have to re-do all the level... bah.

ceri jc - correct. you can play as Silvia, she even has her own cinemas and her own superhero ego, Sexy Silvia. To get her, beat the game on Adults. You'll also unlock ANOTHER difficulty setting, V-Rated.
Here's a tip - to beat the tank, knock its bullets back at it. to beat the jet, knock the missiles back at it, and slow down right before they hit for maximum damage. if you have trouble with the guys in black uniforms, you have to dodge four of their attacks in succession to stun them. The tank bullets also stun them. If you can stun one, you can hit all of them heavily in Slow.
Uzim - to stop the shark's regeneration, simply chase it down and knock the piss out of it while its resting. (listen for its breathing) also, when the shark lays those mines in the water, get near one and it will get the bomb stuck in its mouth, then hit it in slow motion, hold L for maximum damage. repeat until defeated.
ecnadniarb - yes i know. i'm just biding my time until beta bodega gets back to me.

btw, ceri, if you stun one of the guys in black uniforms, you can uppercut it or kick it (this sends it diagonal) into the jet or the tank for damage.

Viewtiful = "Beautiful View".
Oddio, cheers for the tips, I can beat the tank no problem now. I am however, stuck on the train. I make it to the end and press the brake button, those things come down onto the track and slow the train, but not enough to stop it. I've tried various things, but the harsh time limit means I only have about 45 seconds to experiment by the time I get there and it's a real pain. Any solution, gamesmaster? :)

the best advice i can give is to stay on him like glue. try not to let him out of your site, i've found that keeping up with him is the best thing you can do. use SLOW punches to damage him - after five hits, prepare to dodge. if you can hit him while he's saying the phrases that warn you of his moves (i.e. "come on six machine!") quickly enough, you can prevent them from happening. you can also knock him into the lightning in those pits, but the best strategy is to stay on him, and perhaps bring a Take-2 with you.

Awesome game. I've had it for a while, but have only recently really started playing it. The longer you play it, the better it gets :-) At first I thought it was kinda confusing, but now I'm beginning to grasp it all. Once you've mastered the viewtiful-powers (especially slowdown!) you really feel very powerful... like you could do anything.
However, can someone PLEASE give me some tips for level 6 "The magnificent 5"?! I can defeat all the previous bosses easily. But that Lion-boss above the lava-pit is just TOO hard. I already figured out you have to hit those rocks in fastforward until you start burning to become invincible to his fire-attacks... but it's not enough. I can hit him maybe once or twice... but then he turns into a tornado and wipes me out :-s What's the secret to this fight? I've tried it for like 20 times in a row but I can't even drain his darkgreen-enerybar! Help!

sorry for the delay. since america is a nation of finger-pointers, i'll point my lateness finger at my net connection.
here's what you do against fire leo:
when he's running around the ring throwing the rocks, hit SLOW when you jump over him or when one of the rocks is about to land on you to avoid taking damage. You already know about catching fire, so I'll skip that.
When you're on fire, please note that you are IMMUNE to his fireballs, so hurry over to him with FAST but me mindful of the pits. (In fact, avoid going down there at all.) When you extinguish his flames, dodge his attacks when he strikes, then hit him in SLOW until he strikes again. After about eight hits or so, his shield will break.
Once his shield breaks, hit him as many times with SLOW hits as possible (dodge if necessary) until he begins spinning. Once he starts spinning, you must dodge (not jump, not walk away from, not get hit by) dodge FIVE consecutive attacks while he is spinning. If you do not dodge one or get hit by one, he will start over the five-attack sequence again. Tapping SLOW when the dodge symbol appears is helpful (don't hold it though, tapping saves VFX especially when you have the VFX Turbo Charger) .
Once you have dodged five consecutive attacks from his spinning move, he will be dizzy. Hit him with as many SLOW attacks as possible until he flys backward, then stay put. He will jump into the lava, rise back up, in flames again, and repeat his sequence of running around the ring and throwing rocks.
Repeat the above process until he is defeated. Be warned though that once his health is low enough (orange or red meter) he will run around the ring at a much greater speed. A take-2 definitely helps in this fight.
Hope that helps. Good luck.

I think you'd like Prince of Persia the most... that game has tons of exploration, it's like a huge Zelda dungeon. The combat is boring, but the meat of the game is great... exploring a huge castle and figuring out ways to advance. It's simple, and it works. The atmosphere is perfect. It seems more your kind of game then the other two ''shoot everybody in the back of the head and hide their bodies in the shadows'' games. POP got game of the year in tons of magazines.
And Prince of Persia 2 looks wayyyyy better.
My personal favorite of those three games is Splinter Cell, though. That's my favorite game of this generation next to Ninja Gaiden. The XBox version is pretty much the best looking game I've ever played (not technically, but I love the art direction and level design), and it outstealths MGS by a million miles. But based on what I've read about your tastes, it might not be your kind of game. It's very rigorous and linear, very trial-and-error based, and a lot of people don't have the patience or inclination to make it through the whole game. There's no ''adventure'', it's pure, raw stealth at it's simplest, yet most nuanced. Lots of people hate that stuff, but I love it!
It's nothing like Metal Gear, so if you've heard people compare the two, don't listen. The stories and feel of the game are two totally different things. Metal Gear is like a fantasy anime. Snake can hold 100 rockets in his ass and destroy tanks with his fists. Splinter Cell is pure realism. You get caught, you die. You're outnumbered in a gunfight, you die. You make a sound, you're fucked. Depends on what you want... I like realism and one shot kills, but Metal Gear has its own weird appeal.
Splinter Cell 2 has the most innovative multi-player mode ever.
Twin Snakes was a big disapointment, but this is coming from a huge Metal Gear Solid fanatic. If you've never played MGS for PS1, get it, it's a great game and MGS is a must own. But coulda been better.

Got it the day it came out, and I loved it! It was one of the scariest games I've played, the whole thing was just dripping with sickness. Really intense, way more than just shock value.
The only flaw I can think of are the ''shadows''... they don't look good, and that matters in a game like this, and some of the hiding places go beyond unbelieveable, even weirder than Splinter Cell. You could be standing on someone's toes, and they wouldn't see you as long as you're in a ''safe zone'' (and those ''zones'' were pretty vague). Granted, I play games with my brightness pretty high, so maybe that has something to do with it. Fucking great game, though.

THANK YOU!
"Once he starts spinning, you must dodge (not jump, not walk away from, not get hit by) dodge FIVE consecutive attacks while he is spinning."
Ah! That's what I did wrong. Whenever he started spinning I just ran away like a little girl. In retrospect that was pretty stupid... since the skull-marks appear... always a sign that an attack can be dodged but oh well.
With that tip it was pretty easy :-) Once he becomes dizzy you can do ALOT of damage! I only had to do that routine 3 times and then it was already over.
I felt sure he'd be the last boss though! Ha, quite a pleasant surprise there was still another level behind him :-D And what a level! The first room of level 7 is pure bliss. Sooooo many enemies, I made some fantastic combos in there!
You were right about the bossfight too. Best one I've played in a long time. Altough I thought that level 6 boss was much more difficult. Actually the final boss was a bit of a pushover... I made it thru the entire battle on my first try :-p But then again it was so epic and fantastic... I was definitely satisfied! I guess now I should try to beat the game on adult too... it'll be difficult but fun :-)
Fantastic game! I'd recommend it to anyone.
My only complaint is that some of the dialogue is hard to hear. Especially when the bosses talk to you... I can't understand a word they're saying. Especially that shark. He sounds to me like: "Mfgggf mmrrrbr mate! Imagunrr krrl you wtrhr mrrh mate!" ;-) I wish there was an option to turn on subtitles.
I read in VJ2 there will be a 2player co-op mode. Should be awesome altough I wonder how that will work with the VFX-effects. What if player1 uses slow whilst player2 uses fastforward at the same time?

" it's like a huge Zelda dungeon."
Well that settles it :-p I'm definitely gonna get that game!
Altough I've been reading up on MGS:twin snakes, and that one seems really good aswell :-s I've never played the original. And alot of people are saying how it has one of the best storylines in videogame-history!
"There's no ''adventure'', it's pure, raw stealth at it's simplest"
Yeah, after reading your post I think Splinter Cell might not really be my thing. I don't care at all about realism in videogames. Infact I prefer to play through a fantasyworld that tickles my imagination! :-)
I don't mind it if a game is difficult though (actually I prefer that! I just saw Ninja Gaiden being reviewed on a television gameshow and it made me want to buy an xbox. Especially once they said it was just as difficult as the original 8bit games). But the atmosphere doesn't really appeal to me. I think I've read in Twin Snakes the plot involves a giant robot and some guy who can read your mind :-p That sounds so much more interesting to me. I'll probably end up buying PoP and MGS ;-) Oh well... you only live once right?

Then have you seen Resident Evil 4 already? It should be like a dream coming true for you :-p
What I'm most impressed with are the reports about how smart the enemies are in that game. You hide in a house and barricade the door... they go around and come in through the window. You try to hide in a tower... they spot you and start throwing molotov-cocktails at you! Plus they're not as slow as the zombies anymore too. It's going to be a nightmare. People who've played it at E3 are already saying it's much more difficult than any of the other RE-chapters.
(and ofcourse I'm still stuck quite early in the original gamecube-remake ;-) I am starting to like the game quite a bit now... but there are also sooo many things about it that frustrate me. I hope they fix some of that for RE4 (in particular: the itemboxes and not being able to carry nearly enough items yourself, and the fact that you need those stupid ribbons to save the game).

Really? He's not that hard I thought. You just gotta watch out (jump out of the way!) when he does that crazy biting-attack. Otherwise he's pretty harmless. If you get up close to him you can usually hit him alot of times when you're zoomed in + slow.
Well I bought MGS:twin snakes. PoP was apparantly out of stock. He said maybe they'd get some more next week.
The graphics are too dark to properly play MGS during the day... I'll have to wait until the evening. But what I've seen so far looks really good. Damn those enemies are smart! I thought I had found a good hidingplace, but that guard just followed my footsteps in the snow until he found me anyways (and shot me dead ofcourse). Controls are complicated... I think I'm actually going to have to study the manual with this game (which I usually don't... I'm too impatient :-P). But I think I'm going to want to play through this game to the end. It seems nice :-) I like how Solid Snake already tried to hit on 2 girls in the first 15 minutes of the game, lol!
