I think I might opt to get the Wii version, should be fun to
''act out'' the executions with the Wiimote. Jack Thompson
is going to have a fit.

The original is one of the scariest/funniest/awesomest games
ever.

Yes, during the cutscene kills, it'd be good to be able to
take over control. I can just imagine people screaming
whilst stabbing wildly with the remote.

1000 copies I believe, although I'm not 100% sure of that.

Does anyone remember that news story where the loony-tune 14
year old kid who killed his mate with a hammer blow to the
back of the head? The press were trying to make out it was
because he was obsessed with Manhunt (which, in any event,
he shouldn't have been playing). In reality, it was the
victim, not the perpetrator, of the crime that was the
manhunt player.

Here's some new info. This game sounds so horribly and
brilliantly over-the-top. No doubt there will be some great
stealth action underneath the sensationalism, but geez.

Later in the game, a member of The Project has both his
plums and a pair of vertebrae removed with a pair of pliers

• The Director, gangs, CCTV cameras and death row dodger,
James Earl Cash, from the first Manhunt won't play a part.

• Manhunt 2 's main character, scientist Dr Daniel Lamb,
is locked in a private asylum by The Project - shady backers
of a top secret drugs-based weapons program that Lamb was
working on

• After breaking out of the asylum, Daniel Lamb goes on
the run with psychotic inmate Leo Kasper, who is happy to
coach Lamb on the brutal art of violence

• Like the first Manhunt, kills are executed in three
deadly shades - Hasty, Violent and Gruesome

• Environmental kills have been introduced (push an enemy
face first into a live fuse box, for example)

• Loud ambient noises can be exploited by Lamb to drown
out his own crashing about

• When hiding in shadows, if an enemy comes close the
player will sometimes have to copy a button combo in order
to regulate Lamb's breathing and ensure that he remains
undetected

• Lamb can climb and crawl - two moves that Manhunt's
James Earl Cash couldn't do

• Guns can be used for stealth kills

• Bag, glass shard, 'heavy handgun', nightstick and double
barrel shotgun return. One bag execution has Daniel standing
behind an orderly punching him in the face while the orderly
is on his knees. There is also what appears to be a smaller
hammer in one image, although I can’t confirm that.

• Biro, sledge hammer and spiked bat join the party.

• There is a brother level named 'the Honey Pot', a woman
named Judy is here – the brother is a ‘front’ for
recruiting for ‘The Project’.

• Environmental kills are noted by white x on the h.u.d.
The radar returns.

• There are telephone and toilet environmental executions

• There is now a weapons inventory which now pauses game.
No idea if this means you can carry more than 1 item from
each grouping.

• Free aim shooting – the magazine notes shooting as
being easier due to free aim shooting, but this was also
present in the original game. It is presumably enhanced.

• Rockstar North is doing the audio for the game, which
means the return of Craig Conner and Allan Walker.

• Hinted at that the USB headset will return - Just my
assumption, not confirmed!

• Level design and (most) game mechanics are very similar
to the first game. No free roaming (GTA).

The magazine appears to have had the chance to play the
first two levels from the game, the first acting as a
tutorial. They say that Daniel had been working on a
drugs-based weapons program (for ‘The Project’) six
years prior to the events in the game and that he is a lot
more complex than Cash was. The game picks up with Daniel in
containment, and his first victim is a female doctor, which
he kills by strangling her. An electrical storm soon hits
and knocks out the power to the hospital, freeing the
patients, as Daniel passes by the cells an inmate throws
urine over him! And this is where the stealth mechanics of
the game begin to come into play. Apparently if you aren’t
quiet in your escape then a ‘larger’ inmate will throw
faeces over you, sound lovely. Before long you meet Leo, the
magazine goes onto explain that Daniel is so helpless in the
beginning that he won’t fight back when attacked, it
isn’t until his health drops so low and he has had enough
of Leos taunting that he stands up for himself.

offline Ophecks from Nova Scotia (Canada) on 2007-03-07 23:49 [#02059681]
Points: 19190 Status: Moderator | Show recordbag

The magazine skips forward ‘several hours’, it doesn’t
explain if this is through a cut-scene or if they are
jumping ahead of levels in-between. But the level they
describe is the brothel level ‘The Honey Pot’, the
purpose of the level is to find Judy. Upon arriving at the
brothel they are greeted by a pimp, who takes Daniels ID,
this is when you are introduced to environmental kills. The
level is described as having pimps, project members and
people having sex everywhere. The sounds of people having
sex allow for Daniel to manoeuvre his way around the brother
easier due to them drowning out any sound he may be making.

The magazine states that the game is due for release ‘this
spring’ rather than summer, this is likely a difference of
opinion but isn’t spring usually around April or May?

Studio manager for Rockstar London, Mark Washbrook also
participated in a interview in the magazine. When asked 'Any
chance we'll see Piggsy again?' Mr. Washbrook responds with
' Ah, we'll see’..

• No title has satisfied the fiercely loyal Manhunt fan
base since its release and there was no question that we
could leave them hanging any longer!

• Although there's no denying that Manhunt contained
violence and gore it would be missing the point if people
thought these elements were what made Manhunt as great as it
was.

I also want to add that the game looks great; it is easily
the best looking Rockstar game graphically (with exception
to Table Tennis – obviously). It retains the same art
direction of the first title but looks a whole lot more
polished than anything that has come before it. So far
everything is looking outstanding in my opinion, Rockstar
have attained everything that made the first game great all
while expanding upon it and they appear to be making it for
the people that want the game, rather than trying to change
the opinions of others.

Banned in the UK.

Shocking.

Now I can't play this because some sap who got killed (IE
wasn't the killer) was obsessed with the game and his
parents (who illegally permitted him to have a copy) sought
to blame their bad parenting on a video game. It's enough to
make you stab someone in the eye with a biro, then put a

Yep, the police never claimed it was anything to do with the
game and the courts didn't find it in any way responsible
either. The newspapers didn't publicise this quite so much
as their inital story though (strange, eh)? It seems the
whole time the parents (perhaps understandably in their
grief) were looking for some explanation/something to blame
and the media cynically latched onto it/hyped it up. If I
worked for Rockstar I would have attempted to sue The Daily
Mail et al for their libellous suggestion. Perhaps if they
had, there'd have been less negative press around manhunt 2
(which has undeniably been at least a contributory factor in
the banning- contrary to their claims the BBFC do let public
pressure/the press influence them).

I should hope so, but sadly I think not. If it had been the
other way round and their son had been the killer, I suspect
they'd have kept quiet about allowing him to have a copy.

As an aside: Bollocks to the ban, I have just made
arrangements and should be having my (legit, uncensored, UK
version) copy of game a few days prior to the release in the
rest of Europe. Up yours BBFC! :-P

I know it'll probably quite horrific, so guess what? I won't
play it with kids about, nor will I write in and complain if
I find the game offensive. "Law is for the guidance of

IMO Manhunt 1 is not as good as say, GTA, but as usual with
90% of rockstar's output, it is a very good game. It's
probably my favourite stealth based game (ultimately, I
consider it a very violent MGS/Splinter Cell). Great
atmosphere, sound design, music, tension etc. even the
storyline and voice acting is pretty good for a videogame.
The ultraviolence is only really a small part of the game
(and it's actually entirely down to you how brutally you
choose to kill someone), but as usual, that's what makes the
headlines.

I suspect the use of the Wiimote in the Wii version stirred
up more controversy than ever (IE actually acting out the
stabbing/slashing motions with the wiimote) and probably
impacted on the release of the others.

Let's also not forget that a large number of xboxes and ps2s
are chipped and we'll soon see pirate copies changing hands
for large sums of money at markets and car boot sales all
over the country. As well as the odd "legit" copy going for
big money on flea-bay.

That's a good description. I love the first Manhunt but it's
definitely from the Splinter Cell school of stealth, which
is NOT for everyone... strict, linear, unforgiving and very
trial-and-error if you don't have the knack for it. Do you
like stealth games, Paul?

These kind of games almost feel like puzzle games to me.
You're presented a problem in the form of a patrol, and have
to figure out how to bypass it. There's almost always a few
solutions. Then you move on to the next area and try to
solve that one. In this case I love the linearity, it's key
to the experience.

It's nowhere near as good as Splinter Cell in terms of
gameplay but the atmosphere it what makes the game. The
final levels and really intense. And yeah the violence is
actually wildly overemphasized in the media... not ONCE did
I even bother with the most violent executions.

I agree with you about the way splinter cell makes you do
things and in a way that's one of the things I prefer about
manhunt. There's more choice in how you choose to beat a
level, whereas in splinter cell, it's like learning a
complex set of instructions and reciting them perfectly. I
suppose an analogy would be breakdancing compared to
classical ballroom dancing. More room for flexibility and
improv in Manhunt and personally I prefer it for it
(although I can see why some people prefer splinter cell). I
agree Splinter Cell is more polished/refined, but for me
it's just a bit less fun.

Have you played Chaos Theory and Double Agent? IMO these
games fixed most the flaws of the first two Splinter Cells,
which were REALLY brutal and strict. In the last two SCs
you're basically free to kill anyone and tackle the missions
as you like (except for a few missions that take place in
friendly territory), although of course there's
consequences. Chaos Theory especially is really wide open.
They even give you a shotgun, though it's really dangerous
use.

SC Pandora Tomorrow, on the other hand, is the cruelest
stealth game ever.

BTW there's a new stealth game demo up on Xbox Live called
Vampire's Rain... it's a Splinter Cell ripoff, but you're
sneaking around VAMPIRES, and as soon as they see you, they
go after you at superhuman speed and rip you apart. The demo
kind of sucks but I like the premise of sneaking around
supernatural beings that you stand NO chance against. It's
intimidating. Too bad it looks like they dropped the ball.

Fascinating, Manhunt 2 has received an AO (Adults Only)
rating for North America.

This is big news, business-wise, because many retail outlets
won't carry games with the dreaded AO. And Nintendo does not
allow AO games. And no game has ever earned an AO rating for
its violence. The plot is getting pretty thick.
