Yeah this will be interesting, I wonder if Rockstar will
change the game, I hope they offer the original uncensored
game online. This AO rating will only give the game more
attention.

w.t.f. so the later G.T.A. games were considered suitable
for non-adults?

The good thing is, the target audience for games like this
are mostly people who were raised on video games, and now
have paying jobs and a desire to spend our money on these
products. Even if Wal Mart won't carry it, for example, we
can and will still buy our copies elsewhere and we can
afford to do so. Can these stores afford to not sell to us?
We'll take our business to the fuckin' streets! (or the
internets)

Rest assured, those who want copies of Manhunt 2, GTA4 and
Sonic the Pr0nhog, will get their copies in one way or
another. Rockstar knows this otherwise, they wouldn't have
spent the money developing these games (especially Sonic the
Pr0nhog).

There's a whole sub-culture of people that have a sexual
fetish for Sonic the Hedgehog. I apologize in advance.

Yep. Comet/Dixons/PC World etc. have taken controversial
(non-banned) games off the shelves before now. It hasn't
dented sales though because as you say 99% of people buying
it are adults who have the werewithal and means to buy it
elsewhere. The slight loss of walk in sales from these sort
of places is offset by the extra sales generated from the
publicity (which ultimately amounts to free advertising) of
the boycott in the press.

Only thing is, an actual ban is harder to circumvent. The
only game I believe has been banned in the UK in recent
memory was Carmageddon, which was a PC game (yes, it got
ports to consoles later, but that was post ban). In that
case, it was fairly easy to patch it to censor it, then
release that. They then later released a patch to uncensor
it! I don't know how easy it would be for your average user
to restore censored content in manhunt 2 on a console, but
I'm sure the hackers and action replay/modders will find a
way though (and rockstar will probably leave the
objectionable content in the final disk anyway, even after
the hot coffee debacle). I suspect it'll be a bit like the
game of The Punisher, they'll probably release a version
with the truly horrific bits blurred/censored in some way.
Arguably this is worse as it encourages people to use their
imagination of the acts being commited, but there we go.

Personally, I don't see how the game can be any worse than
films like Saw/Hostel and the aspect of being involved in
the bloodshed (because it's a game, rather than a passive
viewing experience) doesn't really count for much IMO,
unless the player already has pretty serious mental health
problems.

The supposedly 'hidden' sex mini game in GTA San Andreas. Do
a google on it and you'll find out all about it.

i agree with that totally. personally, i know there is a
certain disconnect i feel while playing a really well built
game that I don't get from watching movies. Like, if a cell
phone goes off during a movie, it can totally ruin a scene
for me, but if my cell is blowin' up while I'm trying to
reclaim territory in GTA:SA, I won't even notice it. But
that doesn't make me more likely to shoot up the 'hood
outside my house.

there's rumors here in the States it could be rated AO, but
Gamestop has said that the game will only be rated M.
Apparently there are efforts to ban it here, besides dumbass
Jack Thompson. They're called conservatives and old rich
people.

On the subject of the other games that have been pulled
recently (although to my knowledge, not banned by the BBFC).
What do people think of these:

Fall of man - Sci-fi game, uses manchester cathedral's
interior in one level. Church object to it on the grounds
that it's disrespectful, particularly given Manchester's
history of gun crime. Apparently there is some confusion
over the permission to use it, but appears the company
requested (and were granted) permission to use it, but it
seems someone in a different position within the church
objects.

Law and Order 2 - Uses actual CCTV footage of Jamie Bulger
being kidnapped (non-UK people this was a kid who was
abducted and killed over a decade ago). The victim's parents
were not consulted and were appaled by the game.

To my mind, Law and Order 2 is unacceptable. Fall of man is
fine IMO. If it was more of a real world scenario, or people
were breaking in to the church (rather than a war spilling
over into it), I could perhaps understand their grievance
more.

Law and Order 2 I can understand... disrespectful not to
even bother consulting the parents about something so
obviously distressing, and not just to the parents. I think
many people were genuinely moved by this case at the time.

If people are still so upset with Jamie Bulger then maybe
they shouldn't be playing computer games. Perhaps crying
uncontrollably is better use of their time.

If people want Manhunt2 they can just get it from some other
country. This has achieved nothing, except increased my
desire to brutally murder the BBFC. How ironic.

I'm sure if a member of your family had been abducted and
murdered (especially a young offspring) and then the CCTV
footage of their abduction was used in a video game for no
real good reason, without the developers' even having
consulted you at all, you might feel a little aggrieved and
distraught about it.

Everyone's trying to ban this game which is getting kind of
annoying because of the media attention it's grabbing from
other things. If only kids would get as worked up about
something important as over a crap game being banned.

So yeah, did anybody get this? Because I bought it over the
weekend. PS2 version because I don't care about waggle in a
game like this. The executions are... psychedelic. The PSP
has been hacked to unlock the explicit stuff without the
blurring and stuff, but I don't care because I never
bothered with that stuff in Manhunt 1 and I won't in Manhunt
2. Atmosphere and gameplay are still rock solid, good enough
for me. Great thing about the first game was the difficulty
arc and building intensity throughout... things get pretty
heavy later in the game against the Swat teams, I remember
the gardens outside the mansion being fucking intense. Time
will tell if this game matches it.

Kinda sucks that the mouthpiece guy isn't as cool and
sinister as Brian Cox in the first game.

Reviews have been alright, though the game is still being a
tad underrated because of the ultraviolence stigma.
