Is it me or could you literally MAKE this whole album on
just a laptop, with a copy of NI Komplete, a moderate midi
controller, and a basic sequencer?

yup

one of the first leaks sounds shit and repetitive, most of
the track. i don't think it's going to be my top 2007 album.

Its not about being archaic. By equating something like
music to something that can be antiquated, you are pretty
much adding a value system that relies upon time stamped
technology to be relevant. Thats pretty shallow as far as I
am concerned.

No its not. It makes perfect sence. Its just outside your
field of perception, therfore seems like noise.

I will break it down.

By saying that something is archaic, you are saying it is
outdated. But by arguing that it is bad because it is
outdated, you are also saying that things need to be up to
date to be relevant. In saying this, you are opening
yourself to criticism from me, because I think that good
music is timeless, and opinions to the contrary are shallow.
You shouldn't dislike music just because its made on
outdated technology.

"you hear one aphex track you heard half of them
all..."

> that's as wrong as saying the same thing about nine inch
nails. maybe you could say that about most of boards of
canada and venetian snares though (then again, not for
absolutely all tracks, and just maybe since i
haven't heard all their tracks, just one album + several
tracks each).

Thecrimsonguard:

I am sorry, you misquoted.
I believe it went "75% of the time it works all the time"

his songs from With Teeth are actually really good live.

I actually mis posted that comment earlier.

I was going to post it in response to swears comment in the
other year zero thread but forgot wich one I was looking at.

either way we all know that All Ae sounds the same..

vacant was a real good tune live, but they fucked it up with
"passive", i think. i'd really like to hear some of those
tunes too, out of curiosity. they can't have been very good
since they never really did anything with them. i guess it's
a "dick around" project with a shroud of mystery around it.

I think it needs to be heard in the context of the entire
album. I am not terribly excited about the new NIN tracks,
but I am reserving judgment until I hear the album in its
entirety.

seems most artists on major labels had a off period round
about 2005 - tori's beekeeper was also a biiig
disappointment.

Nothing says resistance better then desktop icons.

I was really bummed out about with teeth when it was first
released, I rediscovered it a few months ago and it ain't
that bad. Yeah it SUCKS but it's alright after a bunch of
listens. The line begins to blur is one of the best NIN
tracks I think, it's really awesome.

This new song that was leaked ... I don't know man ...

The whole drum issue is because of these fucking new fangled
VSTi man. The new skinny puppy was ruined because of them
too man. The clearity of drummachines and vsti drum machines
just makes everything sound really tame and michael
bolton-ish.

It's so easy to fix too man ... if you want a noisy album
DON'T use 640 256bit sound cards with a 9 billion dollar
preamp and laptops and protools and all that other high end
stuff.

Anyway whatever, I just hope there are some cool songs on
this. I blame the internet for putting so much pressure on
the guy. It's one thing to be some kid making music in your
basement, it's another when you gotta pay your bills with
your music,

spectrogram

yeah i know what you mean, hopefully her new one is a return
to form too, released just a couple of weeks after year
zero. If the picture on her site is anything to go by it
should be a bit darker than her most recent music, i hope..
she hasn't made a really 'great' record since Choirgirl
Hotel...

Yes. I agree with Oxygenfad.

With teeth really isnt so bad
the first two tracks are ok
Sunspots is kind of catchy
The Line Begins to Blur

Hand that feeds and Only are really good to experience live
mixed with all the harder noisier tracks these add more life
to the show..

Year Zero sounds shit so far.
however I am betting there are some good songs on it..
