I just downloaded survivalism, I think the problem is the
new NIN seems to have too many songs that are aiming for
radio play. Intentional or not, it's just not the same charm
as his old stuff. I think he's experimenting, but in stuff
like SONG WRITING and shit ... not cool noises and
atmospheres.

The drums are so thin and wimpy it sounds like fruity loops
man ... it's weird he should should know these things man,
the guy is Trent Reznor.

This is good but it's not cool ... Where is the fucking
screaming and crazy noises man? Sexy back sounds more NIN
then this new single man ... sorry but it's true :( This
isn't moving me at all, I hope the rest of the album has
some nin soul to it and less whatever radio friendly
formulation. Maybe he's just bored of writing that shit, I
don't blame him, but this new direction ... I don't know man
... it's not nearly exciting for me as lets say when the
fragile was released or the first time I heard broken/dws.

This will be hit or miss with most of you.

If you do prefer the noise being braught
like early NIN

check out Alec Empires rock act.
he has Charlie Clouser & Merzbow on it with him

track recommendations
The Futurist- Overdose

Intellegance & Sacfifice- Intellegance & Sacrifice

oh and if you can find itL Tear it out.
that song is hard.

his work is more Punk in influence but fits in with Broken &
Downward spiral era NIN noiseyness

I really cant stand the " Mother nature is a whore" line.
that is lameass Marilyn Manson esque bullshit.

didnt think it would get that bad for him.

then again he had a song on With Teeth that had the
"Everythings so flip flop flip"

Did anybody catch what the sign said in the Year Zero
trailer?

the top line reads: I am trying.

the second line I think reads: to bee ee.

I think its interesting these days, how albums are
determined to be successful or they are given "cred" just in
terms of their creative ways of combating piracy before they
are physically released.

B/c that's what this is essentially about. This whole
concept thing is just a rouse to keep us interested and
active.

year zero is turning out to be absolute pure brilliance.

this isn't supposed to BE like his other albums: it's
something very different.

epohs: this isn't a viral marketing exercise. year zero,
apparently, is intended to be an experience far more than
just the album. see the websites as an unfolding story, or
"game"; they're to give far more context to what the album
actually means.

this certainly has my three thumbs up.

offline epohs from )C: on 2007-03-02 08:15 [#02057320]
Points: 17620 Status: Lurker

Yeah, it may be in-depth and interesting and neat, but it is
also viral as all get out. What with the hidden puzzles,
and nothing pointing directly to what it is or who's
sponsoring it.

The whole thing is relying directly on internets and word of
mouth.

IMO the 4 leaked tracks so far, is superior to with teeth as
a whole. have to say survivalism is my least favourite of
them all but that doesnt mean i dont like it. in this
twilight is beautiful as well as me i'm not. I have to agree
on the lack of cool background layers of
noises/moans/screams like in the downward spiral.
I hope trent will release a remix ep again. And i would love
some richard devine/clark mixes of some tracks.

offline epohs from )C: on 2007-03-02 10:49 [#02057418]
Points: 17620 Status: Lurker

I think "with teeth" was trent's representation of his "roid
rage". which he was obviously struggling with at the time.

yeah, guess what dude. You just defined Viral Marketing.
You gotta call a phone number to start a game, then fuck
around on the internets for a scavenger hunt, and get all
excited about it with your friends, and then run out and get
the album the second it is available.

V.i.r.a.l. M.a.r.k.e.t.i.n.g. as clear as you can spell it

It's just sad that he had to go this far to wrap an album in
mystique after the dick-diarreha that was WithaTeetha.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, the songs are indeed
better than his last effort, but it's not as if I'm sitting
there like "whoa, this is so deeeep. It sooo needs to be
conceptual in order to stand on it's own"

Actually, I find the concept to be utterly juvenile and
completely heavy handed. It's ripped straight from
yesterday's news. At the end of the day, it's still a
COMPACT DISC (and most certainly a digipak with blurry
photos in it).

Truthfully, he'll start entering coneptualization when his
music stops sounding like Nine Inch Nails cover songs of
Nine Inch Nails songs.

I liked With Teeth, but the other day, I put on With Teeth
immediately after listening to The Fragile, and the
difference in quality and richness was quite noticable; With
Teeth doesn't have half the amount of thought and time put
into it as The Fragile does. Year Zero sounds good, but
again, it's nothing as intricate as The Fragile. I like the
new NIN, but I will always hope he makes something like The
Fragile again someday...

On this synth forum I read there is a guy that builds
modulars. He is really respected and people wait and wait
and wait for his modular synths. He made a synth for NIN
which took forever to build and caused a lot of back
ordering for other "common folk". They were so proud of it.
Pictures and pages of talk all over the net. etc.. A week
after Trent gets the synth he throws a bucket of water all
over it on stage.

i'm really appreciating this release. better than the last
definitely. definitely not more of the same except for
maybe the lyrics themselves though i've never really been a
huge fan of his lyrics anyway. musically though this thing
has real swagger. i mean like it has some sass to
it. something i think that has never really dominated a NIN
release.

Yeah I like it. so far.

the lyrics got much better since he's not singing about "me,
my , hurt, lonely, etc."anymore, all the time throughout an
