no really I'm serious. this is a great achievement for them
we should all be happy for them this is one of the best
times they'll ever have in their lives. They must all be
really proud to be North Koreans now.

I think they're doin ok.

fasting all that time, dedicating it to building their
country up to be a nuclear power. They must be happy now
all that hard work is over. A proud people these North
Koreans must be, a very proud people.

I think it's nice that North Korea has a hobby. Look at
Japan, since the bubble economy burst, they've been on a
major downer.

who could blame iran, either?

they want a deterrant. there's nothing to blame here, save
american aggression.

"everyone else is doing it" is no excuse. we should blame
them. we should also blame everyone else.

that's not the excuse. the excuse is:

"look at what's happening around the world - we've been
listed on the axis of evil, which means that unless our
regime is deposed, we can look forward to a lengthy war with
the imperialist americans, and our country being sent into
the depths of mayhem."

don't get me wrong, i wish they hadn't developed nukes, i
wish israel and china and india and pakistan didn't have
nukes either, i wish nobody had them. but you've got to look
at the facts, and the facts would lead me to believe that
these people have good reason to be afraid and act
accordingly.

I don't think they honestly believe that the US would nuke
them.. if they did, the rest of the world would react, and
it wouldn't be to the US' favour.

offline redrum from the allman brothers band (Ireland) on 2006-10-09 05:25 [#01984383]
Points: 12878 Status: Addict | Followup to Drunken Mastah: #01984378

I never said anything about the US nuking them. I mentioned
the US invading them, which is what they'd do, were it a
non-nuclear state (iraq).

Now that they've got nukes, nuclear war would probably be
the only option, since people like John Bolton don't hold
the idea of diplomacy in very high regard. So, yes, the rest
of the world would react, and it wouldn't be in the favour
of the US.

ergo, the US cannot invade, now that the North Koreans have
proven they have a nuclear arsenal.

got it?

Ever lived there for a considerable length of time?

I don't think that even if they do have nukes, they
consider nuclear war to be the only option.. this is more
"another reason to invade" than it is deterrence. like with
that nuclear power plant thingie where the US "only"
effected an embargo and "justified" the embargo in that it
was provoked by the building of the power plant. it may
sound conspiracy theory like, but I think there's more to it
than that, and I also think that if the US were to invade
north korea, there'd have to be something else there that
they'd want, and I don't know what that would be (does
anyone know anything "proper" about what goes on in
there?)...

i've never lived there, but i read a long story on it from a
guy who has..and i belive him more than all that other crap
people like to write about it. sure, it's quite restricted
for foreigners, but the 1st thing he pointed out, is firday
night..says it's just like any other western city..people
going out to clubs and stuff. things were fcuked 8 years ago
due to hunger but that's apperantly taken care of now..

aw, shit, so they're allowed go out on friday nights?!

well then!

fuck it, who gives a shit if they've got thousands of
political prisoners locked up for speaking their mind,
they've got clubs, and they know how to have a damn good
time!

thanks, you've made me feel a whole lot better. taken a

didn't 60 minutes show some footage that some german doctor
had managed to get inside there? huge cities with no
residents and famined farmers (could/should be a rock band
name) out in the countryside...

i lived in a system with political prisoners being sent to
some deserted island to work - carrying big rocks from one
side of the island to the other, and the next day same thing
the other way. it's hard for intelectuals to keep quiet i
suppose, but majority of people don't care about that. sure,
it's a tough system, not allowing options, but life in
general isn't near as bad as most western medias show it..

can't have been more than a few (2-3) years back, but that's
only when I saw it.. I can't say whether or not the 60
minutes program wasn't a rerun from ages ago, but I don't
see why they'd rerun news programs...

doesn't need to be rerun to show old recordings :)

this guy i read story from said all foreigners must leave
their cell phones at the border, and it's forbidden to take
pics around certain areas.

no, but it was a new story angled specifically at the fact
that someone finally had footage of what was happening in
north korea... the doctor wasn't a normal traveller, but was
working for some medical aid program thingie that was
allowed into the country, and he'd somehow managed to
smuggle some camera equipment with him in there.

as far as I know USA was the only country to date to really
throw the atomic bomb

a few hundred thousand people were killed

still the USA decides nowadays who can have nuclear weapons
and who dont

I more afraid of usa goverment than what I am afraid of
north korea

N.Korea is asking for the world on its back, except they
might be buddies with Iraq and Iran, big deal.

Even if they are just testing explosives underground, they
are still drawing attention to themselves from all over the
world.

Stupid.

There might be oil in them thar hills,

we aren't going to invade. we're spread too thin as it is.
and if they put in motion a draft, they sell guns at
walmart
and we will assassinate our president and any under him who
we don't agree with.

I think we should send a few special forces teams in with
some of those drone aircraft backing them up and detonate an
esp near their nuclear plants/ facilities whatever. the
blast would destroy ALL electronics and then we wont have
shit to worrie about.
