Buddha Machines

I bought one, its all right. I was a little bit let down
though. I thought after reading reviews by users and some
websites that the box would cross fade & mix up the tracks
totally at random.

i still like it though, and i got the color i wanted...i
think forced exposure ships random colors. I plan on
hooking it through my effects processor and playing with the
sounds via delays etc.

Hehe I've read a lot about it but agree with Fah... I have
no idea what it does really.

It's a "loop player", that I think comes with preset loops.

If I had loads of money lying around, I'd buy shitloads of
these and circuit bend them. That would be immense.

they're these little circuit things with five
interchangeable IC things that each play a different song in
obnoxious monophonic beeps. it's not that unlike the sound
you'd get from a pc beep, sonically. i'm going to mod
these, of course.

I've got a white buddah machine and it's seen a lot of use.
The first track when you turn it on has been played the most
but I also like the one that reminds me of Silent Hill 3 (a
piano-ey sounding one). Yeah as THAXFA says, you eventually
start hearing things that aren't actually there (especially
as you drift in and out of sleep) in a very similar way to
William Basinski's Disintegration Loops. The latter of which
last week I heard an amazing vocal section that seemed to go
on for ages until I realised I was drifting off to sleep and
my brain was making it up.

Fantastic little things, shame the volume control wheel is a
little flimsy. Mine has fallen inside the machine twice now
and I've had to open it up and screw the wheel back on
again.

i'm wondering whether i'll buy one or not...

and if i do, whether i'll buy one from staalplaat directly
or from forced exposure (since i live in europe, staalplaat
seems to be like the wiser choice but what do i know).

I think I'm going to buy a 2.0 version. Curiosity kills the
cat, again.

yea, its nice to have one if you dont, nice concept and
curious shit... id rather have a 2.0, but i already have the
first one and buying a new one would be a bit stupid. it
gets fast tiring (?!eng!) but its a cute musical object, a
bit like having a music box but in magnetics

I suppose I should just start with one unit, but the
possibilities of two or more are really tempting. Ah well, I
can always record and loop the single unit as much as I
want. Going to order a brown v.2 tonight.
