Windows XP users:

Enhance your Windows/Web experience by enabling "ClearType"
on your systems.

Perfect for LCD/TFT screens, but also "quite suitable" for
old CRT-monitors as well.

Download the tool here - it's very easy to turn it on/off - allowing
you to see the difference.

Spot the difference in the attached image below:

the dictionary says that ClearType is a technology based on
"operating the space between pixels".. sounds like antialias
but on hardware level.

i like some webfonts non-antialiased. maybe need to get used
to it.. Tahoma definitely looks better for me without
antialias when in small sizes, 8-10pt approx.

I think the fault probably lies in this being for LCD
screens while I have two CRTs... it's like anti-alias, but
stronger (aka blur) on these screens, and they're even
calibrated!

as the initial message tells you: it's for TFT/LCDs not
actually CRTs.....

you don't have to download anything to get clear type do
you? just go to display properties -> appearance -> effects,
enable clear type. old trick.

it's getting more and more common and the "web 2.0"
encourages you to enable ClearType.

damn. so that's the new standard to which everybody must
stick up to even if they don't want. as WinXP is. i'm still
on W2K and don't want to switch since everything works fine
for me. Except some progs which want to persuade me to
install winXP, but they won't own me so fast ))

no worries... noone forces you to use ClearType... it's just
a feature to enhance typefaces...

as for your w2k-box.... you should really consider upgrade
to wxp.... solves a few secutiry-issues and it's a lot more
supported re:patches, servicepacks and so on - but that's my
opinion. :)

fyi: many of us will take the step to windows vista later on
this year.... :)

Not that mine fails...
