I don't know why but I don't trust Steven Harper. After
reading all that "IMAGE MAKE OVER" junk about him last year,
and after he crumbled to the whims of America (after Jean
Chretien called G.Bush a moron and appologized on behalf of
all of Canada(, it just seems like the guy is completely
evil. I mean look how he is getting votes. He is being very
clever on how he words everything.

Like not to be all typical anti USA government, and I don't
usually care about politics, but I really don't trust this
guy.

NO gay marrage
NO abortions
MORE weapons for our army

It makes no sense. NONE. The guy is being sponsored himself
in advertising and publicists what a hipocrite to be talking
about ACCEPTING MONEY. WHO IS PAYING FOR HIS TV TIME?
PHOTOSHOOTS AND NEWS PAPER SPOTS? I just really wish the
"corner gas" voters would go a little bit further then
WATCHING CBC and find out the real information about him.

I feel like they want to take away all of our rights, and
they keep refering to the sponsorship scandel to win votes.
Placing blame. It seems so backwards.

Can anyone shed light and help me think another way about
this? Or do you agree with what I am saying?

Any thoughts?

i totally agree with you man. steven harper is shifty as
fuck. it seems like he wants to make canada into america's
bitch or america#2 or something.... everytime i see him on
tv talking he's vague as fuck and i really have no idea what
his agenda is.... plus look at him, look in his eyes. he
looks dead, man. no emotion, nothing-he's like a robot.
i dont trust him for one second.

Just think of how great it could be. Lower minimum wage for
any company selling products to the us. Military assistance
for the US in Irac. Word on the street is conscription is
the new rock and roll.

In other words, you are 100% correct. This guy isn't even
using clever words. He is targetting to the lowest common
denominator and turning canadian politics into the wrestling
match that it is in the us. If he manages to get elected, I
will have lost my last shred of respect for this desparate
country.

true, bloody quebecians

do they want quebec independence as a party or is it just a
few hardline frenchies within the party?

(dont actually know much about canadian politics)

Points: 9958 Status: Lurker | Followup to Ezkerraldean: #01807079

Well, if we lived in quebec, then I could vote for them. But
I don't live in quebec.

I hear they are going to be supporting the liberals, and the
NDP are going to be supporting the conservatives, so I am
not going to vote for ndp or conservative. I guess its
liberal. Its too bad, because I wanted to vote green, but
that would be just as good as not voting and letting the
conservatives win :(

They want independance, with the support of the canadian
banks. So pretty much, they want their own laws, their own
government, their own everything, but they want the support
of the canadian economy. Kind of stupid really, but they do
have more seats than any other province, and their votes
really count. Spoiled quebecouis. They get everything they
ask for (except independance).

I vote Bloc Québécois of course, it's the only way I can
vote.

p.s.: Ezkerraldean yeah you better STFU next time.

p.p.s.: Taxidermist you don't know much about the NA trade
laws or the globalisation movement. We want open doors for
free trade between us and Canada. Oh and Ontario has more
seats. We aren't spoiled, we are tired of your assimilation
for centuries. It just take time for us to do it.

Points: 9958 Status: Lurker | Followup to ymenard: #01808057

Admitedly, I don't know much about globalisation and NA
trade laws. But I was being sarcastic.

Although the fact that all products produced in canada need
to have both french and english labels on them, but products
sold in quebec only require french labels kind of indicate
that there is some unfairness there. As far as I am
concerned quebec can separate and become their own country.
I support anybodys political choice to whatever rights they
seem to think they want.

PPS. You say assimilation and whatever, but the french
settlers came over here by choice. African settlers did not.
Natives did not have any choice in who settled here. Give
those groups what they want first.

offline ymenard on 2005-12-29 05:14 [#01808113]
Points: 1001 Status: Regular

I'm sorry but they don't just require french labels. They
are as bilingual as you guys have.

Perhaps its those kind of things that will also make you
accept that our own sovereignty is there also to help YOU,
not only us. Canada has no value anymore as it is
currently, the perequation is fucked up, money goes
everywhere unbalanced.

"When Reality Check called the Conservatives before
Christmas to inquire about the costs of their tax cuts, the
party's media representatives confirmed, on two occasions in
fact, that a Harper government would keep the reduction in
the tax bracket for low-income earners... Now, however, a
policy spokesman with the Conservative campaign called back
to say the party will be keeping the reduction only for the
2005 tax year should they assume office." (CBC.ca, January
5, 2006)

I'm torn between the NDP and the Liberals. A vote for the
NDP gives the Conservitives more power and the Liberals have
yet to change anything.

Jack Leyton has been making a lot of sense recently. Harper
should be sent back to the middle ages where he belongs and
Paul Martin is just the lesser of two evils.

offline DeadEight from vancouver (Canada) on 2006-01-09 15:45 [#01814995]
Points: 5437 Status: Regular

if in fact the NDP does end up supporting the conservatives
and they govern together, Layton either keeps Harper
somewhat in check or the union dissolves pretty quickly. i'm
growing more and more indifferent as to whether the
conservatives or the liberals win, because when it comes to
a lot of nitty gritty policy both parties seem quite
pragmatic, which is to say some times the tories seem more
left than the liberals and vice versa. i think a more
sincere left (a loaded description, i know) is on the rise,
and i'd like to be a part of that, regardless of whether we
win now... as it becomes more and more clear to voters that
there are legitimate alternatives to voting PC or liberal,
they will be more likely to vote for them without thinking
they are throwing their vote away. you've got to build from
something, and i guess the terrain is sufficiently unstable
enough that i'm not to worried about the big guys having
sufficient control of the country for long enough to fuck it
up badly either way.

Well, I would agree with you for the most part, except that
the conservatives would make things pretty messy, not out of
stupidity or spite or anything, but out of fear. Especially
right now, when the international image is extremely
important due to the way things are in the US, if the
conservatives get into power and appear to side to much for
or against the US, then that will through things out of
whack even more internationally. Taking into account that
harpers and bushes political stature run a parallel course,
I could see this getting very very messy for canada.

very rarely do people live in truly mixed ridings
the vote for your MP is probably between the ndp/liberals or
conservatives/liberals
if you live in an ndp/liberal battle zone, a vote for the
ndp will not help the conservatives, since they would not
have had a chance anyway (usually)

just remember what you'll be seeing on every corner if you
vote ndp: public heroin injection sites

don't believe that bullshit about strategic voting. vote
your conscience.

like in america, we had Bush vs Kerry and people thought
they were beating the system by voting Kerry just so
somebody besides bush would win. well, guess what? those
people lost. and they've got nothing to show for it except
they can live with the fact they voted for a shit candidate
they didn't really believe in.

I would see that as being a better thing than a worse thing.
Nothing says awesome like someone who breaks into a car to
steal stuff to get money for heroin, then buying that heroin
on the street in front of businesses and families that are
walking around, and then shooting up in a totally public
area. If they make it controled instead of illegal, it helps
eliminate all three of those problems.

Well, I voted liberal, and luckily my district voted liberal
too. But I can't believe that in a time when things are
supposed to be progressing, canada votes in the one party
that is going to make things worse.

Think about it: the liberals had a bit of a scandal, and
some money went missing. Is that any worse than spending
money on militarizing the north? No. If the same ammount of
money was spent on both, I would be equaly pissed. But then,
I also want to see as little military presence as possible
in canada. So I am double pissed.

Harper will not touch abortion. He will put same-sex
