------------------------------------------------
I like AUTECHRE, µZIQ, SQUAREPUSHER, BOARDS OF CANADA,
etc... very much, but here I'm speaking of a different
thing, I'm speaking of a man called Richard D. James who
make everything alone without any help, we're speaking of a
man who start to write Selected Ambient Works 85-92 when he
was 14 years old, we're speaking of man who changed his
music in ACID to TECHNO to AMBIENT to CLASSIC MUSIC to
DRUM'N'BASS to HARDCORE GABBER to DRILL'N'BASS, etc... and
now he's working with high frequency sounds.

Everything he do is great...
Try to Listen AFX' live to Sonar in Barcellona and you'll
know why is so great... everything he does is cool... he
could remix a fart and it would be a masterpiece...
In music everything Richard touch become gold.

When pidgeon street comes on after all the other caustic
tracks it is cool. The twin knows how to put things in
perspective and not be too trite. Druqkz is a case in point.
The sequencing is sublime

maybe i am biased in this matter) :D

generous with how much he releases? Mike paradinas lives in

dont they get together and do a mike and 2 album

does Mike Paradinas have nice hair now... after he cut of
his dorky ponytail?

RDJ could be a little smarter about making some money doing
what he likes (soundtracks, remixes, singles, releasing
unreleased stuff). I just hope he doesnt burn out, and 20
years from now he will just be a fat drunk on the "dole",
bragging to other drunks about his "salad days". RDJ seems
a bit lazy to me.

I like BoC a bit better, but no doubt RDJ is the king...
he's been so influencial, and has done so many styles... BoC
are just starting out pretty much, and I love their style so
much...

offline Ubik from United States on 2002-02-27 17:38 [#00104821]
Points: 662 Status: Lurker

BoC has pretty much one style and one mood, and they work it
for its worth....

RDJ has such timing, such a deft hand at contrasting sonic
elements to create emotion, whatever the so called style, it
always sounds like him.

offline The_Funkmaster from St. John's (Canada) on 2002-02-27 17:43 [#00104825]
Points: 16280 Status: Lurker

yes that's true, BoC have stuck with the same style... now
mind you, each song is different, but it's a similar
style... kind of like with a guitar band... they use the
same instruments for each song, but some bands manage to
make each song sound different... not that BoC uses the same
sounds, but they definately have a style all their own...
the thing with BoC I guess is that if you like the style
you'd love anything by them, whereas if you hate the style
you'd hate them... I for one love their style, and their
music...

I consider a musician the best only after a deep valuation
about what he created in the past and in the present. I
listen a lot of different style of music, techno, trip-pop,
lounge, industrial, acid, rock, etc... but I never saw a
polyedric artist able to surprise me everytime as Richard D.
James. It's the only one and it's the best.
Anyway my fav album is AMBER by Autechre but I'm not able to
say who Autechre are better then AFX only for one album.

it! :P

anyways, it's hard saying who is best -- because how can a
person say "afx is better than bach"... i will say that afx
is by far the best electronic artist, for sure

I dont understand tha much mentioning Bach... ok he is one
of the greatest but come on...Mozart, beethoven, chaikoski
(I know it is badly spelled) wagner... i like them better...
and if you like pioneers then talk about vivaldi who mad one
of the biggest steps in music

I think AFX is the best in rhythmic electronic music.

Nacmat: No one has ever beaten J.S. Bach at musical
counterpoint. The only one that came close was W.A. Mozart
and he learned a whole lot from Bach.

beethoven and chopin are underrated masters of bachian
methods - mozart reinvented the opera and did some nice
masses - i'm not that keen on him as a whole -- now bach is
untouchable in the genius composer stakes - examine some
bach fugue sheet music - it could drive a person insane with
its eery complexity and juxtaposition - i can trip out
listening to a bach fugue...
