there and get some sounds, fuck them up, make a beat and
thats it...

with each song :P

I write music. Some people say it's across between
Backstreet Boys and 'NSYNC. I don't if I'm that good
though. I use Fruity loops, Acid, Soundforge, a ton of DX
and DSP plugins, cubase, cakewalk, wavelab, couple of
keyboards, some 6 and 12 string acoustic guitars, an
electric and stand-up bass, and various old tape recorders.

B3n I'm considering getting a phatboy controller myself, I'd
be using it with a soundblaster live card and mainly
re-birth and fruity loops. I'd have to save up for a bit as
I'm a student, Do you reckon it's worth getting?

offline B3n from Manchester (United Kingdom) on 2002-02-26 16:59 [#00103197]
Points: 4700 Status: Lurker

Yeah, I like mine a lot, I got it for £50 after seeing
someones ad at sospubs.co.uk, I recommend you do the same.
Also check loot.com, I bought a lot of stuff of there
cheap.
I use my phatboy with an SB Live! and its pretty damn good
for tweaking my drum soundfonts in real time, I love the
filter cutoff. Only problem is I haven't yet worked out how
to get the reverb and chorus effects to work with it.
Granted, I haven't tried that hard but there seem to be no
resources online. Other than that, get it!

BTW, I got the Phatboy V1, V2 is more expensive but only
diff is it can be used with more things, which I didn't need
anyhow.

offline Ceri JC from Jefferson City (United States) on 2002-02-26 17:09 [#00103214]

Does V1 work with the stuff I listed?
I will probably look for a second hand one. I was
considering getting something like the Doepfer pocket
control box (http://www.doepfer.de/home_e.htm), but I'll
probably go for the phatboy if I can get one second hand.
I'd probably record the track first and use it to
"knob-twiddle" the main instrument live. Thanks for the
info. :)

a Yamaha general MIDI keyboard from 1996 (i think), Lowrey
Genie organ, TR-606

but most of my actual recordings are almost entirely
computer based, produced with an older version of CoolEdit
and Stomper 4.0

i haven't done much musically lately, cos of school & stuff,
but i still got it in me ;)

I make music. I use my cpu, Juno 60, xylophone, and my drum

good sampler? All I've got at the moment to capture sounds

Can anyone recomend a sequencer that is not so big, but
functions quite well? I'm not concerned with effects at
all, just need a sequencer that is solid. I make music with
sawcutter. I also play the didgeridoo, but that's not
composed, just freestyle in the moment type shit.

laptop running orion pro, cool edit pro, fruityloops 3.3.
nord lead 2. ms2000r. electribe er-1. im considering
focusing more on the software area though as i am much more
familiar with it and all.
i recommend to anyone to get a phatboy midi controller or
any other midi controller for software use. it gives so
much more life to the music. fruityloops works really well
with it. you can assign filters, delays, volume, mutes,
pitch. all to seperate knobs and then tweak on the fly.
fun.

canerfold, you should try yamaha rm1x sequencer. the sounds
arent so great and the effects arent so great but its got an
extremely solid sequencer with lots of flexability. i got
rid of mine cause i wanted to get more into software but i
still am a firm believer in the machines capabilities. ive
tried alot of machines and this one didnt leave much to ask
for as far as sequencing capabilities.

go to rm1x.co.uk and ask them what they think.

sorry, i was actually looking for a piece of software. i'm
so stuck on my damn laptop i forget people make music with
instruments and machines other than a computer. i'd love to
obtain some hardware, but i can hardly pay my friends some
