I just read Kevin's obituary to see where he was from. Did he live in Kansas City? If he did I feel sad that I didn't get to know him.
Sad news.

Hmmm. Partially. But the characters that we present themselves as stem from a compulsion to create a character of that nature (<-I don't mean to sound redundanct in that last sentance, but thats the only way I could have constructed it that sounded right).
Pretty much, what happens when people create internet personalities, is a lot of their nature will be present in the personality, but it will be underneath a layer of the identity that they choose to present themselves as, but that identity is still based out of their nature (or their person, or their soul). We are talking to real people. Its just easier to accept them as characters. When an undeniable argument arises to challenge this understanding, its almost as unsettling as the news itself.
Its important to have filters like the internet and its messageboards. It creates a sort of cathartic vent that cannot really be taken away or challenged (unless the person uses the internet as an important element of their identity, such is the case of tridenti and reflex<-old example). This catharsis is dangerous to mix with real life, or replace parts of your real life with, as that can cause the human mind to misrepresent it as a part of your life, and then something that should be used for catharsis becomes an additional source of problems and stress.
