it'll mostly be for music, and thus needs to be quiet... I
got some help from a friend putting it together, and the
budget isn't really high, but I'd like to know if anyone has
had any experience with any of the parts and know if they
are noisy or in some way bad... I don't care much about
gaming, but I'm going to go for two screens this time, so
don't worry about the screencard not being good for sam &
max hit the road or whatever it is you crazy kids are
playing these days... also, I've left out the soundcard for
now, 'cause I'm getting a pro one later, but that'll take
some saving of money.

no complaints.... great setup for a silent computer

great! thanks!

besides interferring with recordings, fan-noises (that
aren't intake-fans on top of buildings or above stoves..
these work wonders with the tinnitus) make me weird and
dizzy.

you avoided a lot of fan-traps above.....

fan-traps?*

*ignore question if you mean as in "you avoided lots of
noisy small fans with incessant noises and noise and stuff"

i would recomend a samsung DVD burner over the NEC. A minor
detail. Otherwise looks nice!

Looks good, but be sure to buy an third party cooler, as the
pentium ones are real noisy

heh.. the dvd-burner comes with good recommendations, so...

pf: hmm.. thanks. I'll order the entire thing and wait and
see if perhaps the case dampens the sound or whatever... but
do you have any recommendations for cheap and good extra
coolers?

i've got a similar fan, but made by Zalman, it keeps my
processor amazingly cool :) pretty quiet as well, mine's
also got a control on it, so you can turn the speed down if
you want it to be even more quiet.

FINALLY!!!

I recommend Zalman fans but they're massive so you need to
check they'll fit in your case first :)

Mine is getting covered in dust so it needs a hoovering.

They do a damn good job though :D

great! thanks guys!

I'll look into the zalmans! I think I read something about
one of those thingies, so I can only hope they'll fit into
the comp then...

ok, I found two zalmans that fit my comp (don't know how
they fit in the cabinet yet, but I'll check later). Both say
that the min and max db output is higher than the northqs...
1 2

they are min. 20 db, while the northq says min 12 db...

offline Drunken Mastah from OPPERKLASSESVIN!!! (Norway) on 2005-08-20 14:38 [#01701493]

I'm still in need of being helpified.

I'm getting northq fans due to the lower min db I think, but
I'm not yet sure if it will actually fit on my
motherboard... there are things standing up from the
motherboard in the area around where the fan will be and the
fan is rather large, but I see that it has a "rise" and that
the fan itself is a bit higher up than its base.. however,
it is impossible to tell how much higher and if it will fit
on the motherboard I'm getting... northq is a zalman rip-off
of sorts, and they're supposed to have the same dimensions,
so, does anyone know if it will fit on this asus
motherboard?

I'm going for the second of the fans I linked, btw, as it is
lighter (~400 grams as opposed to the heavier one that's
around 800)

oh, god fucking damn.. there's always trouble when I'm
buying stuff.. stuff goes out of sale/production and becomes
more expensive and shit and crap.

long story short: I need a new screen card that needs to be:
fanless, no hypermemory or turbocache, support for two
screens and not expensive.

I'm looking at these two:
1
2

I also recommend you a zalman cooler, I've it and it's very
silent!

One day I entered the room, I turned on my PC, and then I
realized it was already running...

hahaha! that's the way it is with my comp now... the
hard-drives aren't there to cause ruckus, and that fan in
the power supply is the most quiet thing I ever didn't
hear!

the thing is that the zalman coolers say they have min 20 db
while the northqs have min 12 db, which means that I'll have
a EVEN harder time figuring out if it's on or not... heh...
