Dear Autechre,

You are undoubtedly one of the most important electronic
acts of the last 20 years. Your record of great releases is
without equal. Since the early 90s you have provided us
with great electronic music and for that we thank you. It
is now time to break up and do something different.

Just one man's opinion.

Warmly,
thethirdball

Are you trying to say:

Quite while you're ahead?

they are nice, but not ahead or smthing. There was a time in
my life when i considered them best of the best of the best
but now i just continue to like them, good listen sometimes.
But very seldom i put ae into the playing device or
program.

but I don't think they should quit, personally.

I really hope 'Untilted' doesn't sound the 'same' to you
guys. I think theres a lot of difference in that compared to
Draft. More distinct rhythms and beats. More distinct
melody. If anything I think their coming out of their
abstract shell for this one and Im loving it.

Untilted is one of my favorite albums since LP

Dear Venetian Snares,

You are undoubtedly one of the least important electronic
acts of the last 20 years. Your record of annoying releases
is without equal. Since the early 00s you have provided us
with harsh electronic music and for that we thank you. It

ae, aphex, v snares, u-ziq et al = extremly overrated IMO
there's so much wicked and beautiful electronica out there
that deserves success and all I ever see on this board are
people discussing the same old hackneyed acts, come on they
were cool about ten years ago but not any more folks, time
to move on ;)

O.K. btw cheers for the Disco Inferno tip you gave me ages
ago (check out D.I. kids for starters).

for what it's worth people should be discussing this lot a
lot more than they do

Fizzarum, Arovane, ISAN, Bola, Dunaeswky69, Crunch, EU,
Freescha, Brothomstates (OK it's warp but it's brilliant),
Ochre,
Esem, Sense

that's just a few of the top of my head but IMO they are
sooooo much better than all the millions of ae/rdj topics I
see.

those are all nice (don't know them all), and bbrothomstates
is one of my fav artists on warp, but still they don't come
close to afx and ae imo..they just don't possess that
certain quality yet..afx and ae are a bit overhyped on this
site though, that's true :)

Bola, B-states and Crunch (1) are all very nice. I talk
about them as much as I can. Plus I can add lot more to your
list like Ilkae and Funckarma but it wont matter... no one
else has the same sound as AFX or AE. They are the 'pop
stars' of idm-country so they will be the most talked about
when something new comes out. Analord, Untitled are hot
topics because they've just been released, you dont see too
many people discussing Incunabula and SAW1. Just wait until
the new BOC comes out.

soundguy,

there's too much music to check out.

i need at least a month or so EXCLUSIVELY with each new
release i hear.

there is simply not enough time to check everybody out

i still find tons of new artists/albums that really hit me
up good, but don't expect all the copycats (a lot of general
nonsense) to get fed

The stuff I listed gives me much more than aphex ever did, I
was bored with saw 1 & 2 within weeks of them being released
although I did stick with RDJ lp for longer (it did get old
eventually though).
.

I get little to nothing from any of his stuff now though ,
whereas tracks from say Crunch 1 or Fizzarum Monochrome
Plural still send shivers up my spine years after they were
released, it could be a taste thing, it could just be that
their music has greater emotional depth, is more slow
burning and isn't reliant on the whole "personality" thing
and is therfore purer to me, I never really liked music that
has novelty value (except for MC pitman) and let's face it
Aphex is quite reliant on that for his success.

You are undoubtedly one of the most important
hip-hop

"Fizzarum, Arovane, ISAN, Bola, Dunaeswky69, Crunch, EU,

ok BESIDES bola and maybe arovane or crunch from time to
time and a particular eu 7" that's decent, these people are
the reason i can hardly even listen to idm
anymore....whispery-wishy-washy-boring-floaty...there is a
reason autechre gets talked about so much when this is the
alternative...i really can't imagine feeling more for these
acts than i do for autechre's worst songs.

It's not the alternative, it's in the same ball park only
better IMO, if the only adjectives you can use are the ones
you did then I suggest you listen harder and it's NOT IDM,
it's not DANCE music, it's HEAD music, there's the
difference

maybe you guys need to take more acid or something.

deadly serious, come on you can't dance to Crunch but lying
back in bed with a head full of mushrooms, well it's
beautiful, more beautiful then some cheesy AFX track
Likewise, Sense on an atmospheric train ride through Europe
is infinitley more preferable to an AE "shit a moth is
flapping it's wings in my synth let's turn it into a track"
type thing.

You must know what I mean?

Yeah, if "different wavelengths" means you can't appreciate
the more cerebral nature of electronic music then I guess
your
right (strange that you use this board though and
namechecked who you did)

It's not pointless, defending your musical tastes is never
pointless IMO,and please don't patronize me (like you've
never listened to music in bed before) either.

No, I'm saying that it can be beautiful when your high, not
better.

I'm not a mad druggie btw but I do have some fond memories

Some great music is shit when your high, whatever you do
don't ever listen to Radiohead high (if your a fan), just a
warning.

you're right that there's a whole world of electronic music
out there past autechre. there are a lot of great acts to
listen to besides the big names. but i guess sometimes you
(not you specifically) don't feel like listening to
something great! if i'm in the mood to listen to dull and
forgettable melodies, i'll pull out some sense.

anyhow, i dont see why you've brought drugs into it unless
you think they are some sort of key to the "cerebral nature
of electronic music?" lol

Senses melodies are some of the most emotive and soul
stirring I've heard in electronic music for quite some time,
O.K. they aren't immediatley "catchy" but there's something
sensuous (no pun intended) and melancholic about them that
just really appeals to me. They are slow burners, took me
about 2 months to really "get" them, though I did like them
(not love) straight away.
forget "different wavelengths" maybe we just have different
Sense records, "Learning to be" is the one I'm referring to
and I only really like about 6 tracks off it but I REALLY
like those tracks.

I brought drugs into it because they are a catylyst (not a
key) to appreciating music on a deeper level.

Errrrr never mentioned shooting up, think you missed my
point mate.

Psychedilics (when the time is right) and smoke is all you
need for music and if you can't appreciate music without
drugs then, well you don't really like music at all I guess
;)

It's just sometimes they can ENHANCE (and that's the golden
word) music and I'm glad that I have experienced that
"enhancement" in my life, that's all.
