Classic Sci-Fi

In the near future I'm going to leave the internet for a
bit in order to save some money on phone bills. I'll be
using this extra cash to buy some movies over the internet.
Some already on my list:

-citizen kane
-jacob's ladder
-rushmore
-mst3k dvd
-forbidden planet
-colossus: the forbin project
-andromeda strain
-thx 1138

I probaby won't get all of them but making lists is fun. I
don't want this to turn into another favorite movies thread
so i'm restricting it to the sci-fi genre.

I would also like to know which of the mst3k dvds would you
say is the funniest?

Please explain a little about the movies you're
recommending.

um.. how is "citizen kane" supposed to be science fiction..?

The Last Man on Earth starring Vincent Price has been one of
my favorites for a while. Very much like 28 Days Later, but
with... Vincent Price. It's a pretty startling movie in many
ways. I think it qualifies as sci-fi.

Anything depicting post-apocalyptic ''societies'' is always
rad.

How are Citizen Kane and Rushmore sci-fi?

Rushmore is great. Citizen Kane is not as good as I was led
to believe.

You're restricting the thread to sci-fi by naming films from
any genre then?

you could just spend the money on the internet and download
the films

Okay. Let me clear this up for everyone. I'm not going to be
buying just sci-fi movies. That is just the list of movies i
have on my list so far (which is not restricted by sci-fi).
This thread is however, restricted by the sci-fi genre. So
please continue

Sci-Fi:

i much prefer sci-fi tv series to films, especially sapphire
& steel, and blake's 7. they are available on dvd, do they
count?

the amount of time it would take to download the movie would
amount to a phone bill high enough for me to buy each movie
twice.

yeah. the monthly cost is not too bad (less than what my
phone bill is). the setup fees are way too expensive and
besides i'm probably moving out at the end of the year...

anyone around here have mst3k?

The Day the Earth Stood Still-Is a must have for any Sci-Fi
fan. It's a timeless movie that makes no attemp to predict
technology which tends to date older stuff.

campy, overlooked and awesome: Forbidden Planet

i also really like the heston three: planet of the apes
(the original), the omega man, soylent green

yeah forbidden planet is a classic. i love it.

the heston apes were the best. the first is still my
favorite because of the whole discovering it for the first
time thing.

Current sci-fi only list:

-mst3k dvd
-forbidden planet
-colossus: the forbin project
-andromeda strain
-thx 1138
-the last man on earth
-the day the eath stood still
-omega man
-soylent green

i looked all these up and most sound very promising. its
going to be tough having to siff through them and make a
final decision. i should probably add blade runner to the
list because i've always wanted to own it.

offline r40f from qrters tea party on 2005-05-04 15:23 [#01586455]

andromeda strain is overrated, imo. it's really not
something i'd want to sit through more than once. really
boring and dry, only a couple of good scenes.

definitely get blade runner - i've been meaning to pick it
up myself! ;)

Jacobs Ladder was good, if you enjoy it, go and get altered
states, that should be very cheap anywhere. I got the dvd
for 8$.

for ages.
