What's his best album to start out with? I'm thinking of
buying one of his records...

What style do you like? My favs are "On Land" and "Apollo."
They are on the ambient side of things.

yeah On Land is what I'm thinking I'll get... I was just
listening to some samples, and read some reviews... gotta
start somewhere, so it might as well be with that one...

What's the album that's meant to be background music? It
suggests to the listener that the album be played only
barely audibly…?

I've only heard a little and was extremely dissapointed,
just because of all the hype I have heard. I should
probably check out more.

I think you might mean "Neroli," which is either great or
total shite depending on who you ask.

Yep, thats the one he did with David Byrne out of Talking
Heads....well before it's time..(altho not personally one of
my faves...)...

Has anyone read A Year (with swollen Appendices) by
ENO...it's a smart little book with some excellent essays
about Ambient, Generative music etc...

One of my fave books to dip into for a bit of inspiration...

thanksomuch - can you maybe post once without using the word
"fuck"? Maybe you don't realise it but it makes you look
terribly ignorant.

Narkotic, mate.... it's you who are looking "terribly
ignorant"....

As your mother used to say (if indeed you ever knew
her).."if you haven't anything good to say then perhaps it's
better to keep your fucking mouth shut"...

how is that not a nice thing to say? I have a nasty mouth
i'll admit, but i don't use "fucking" 10 times in each post
either, I fail to see your validity in your statement, other
than to be brown nosing the females.

offline marlowe from Antarctica on 2002-02-14 16:24 [#00088436]

i think he meant ignorant as in being patronising and
condescending

The collabo he did with Harold Budd blows almost every dam
ambient album to pieces. The nicest reverb and piano I ever
heard.

Neroli "Thinking Music)...

That one is a great CD to stick on when you're working,
desgning or painting or whatever....

Eno otfen speaks of Frangrences...I even believe he's
created a few nu ones...

All part of his ambient aesthetic..

Read that A Year With Swollen Appendices by ENO .... I
really ca't recommend it enough...

If you are in anyway creative, be it taging, painting music
or whatver..you'll find this book a great inspiration...

dynamism

I think I'd like On Land from the samples I've listened
to... plus the reviews I've read, it sounds like it's a more
visual ambient recording, like you can picture a landscape
and stuff... correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I would
like that...
