For ages I could only use the piece of shit I got with my
burner. Now Nero 6.6 supports it so I use that. Works for
me.

On what basis?

package!

For making DVDs with menus and whathaveyou I also use DVD
Architect. But I haven't got a new version in ages, so maybe
it's better or worse since the Sony fiasco.

When you select "New" from the file menu do you get a combo
box with CD and DVD in it?

yeah ive got one of those menus but no vcd equivelent in the
dvd drop down options. just data & 'dvd-video' files

So you get these options? I think you want DVD-Video to make
a DVD like you'd make a VCD/SVCD. Haven't burned a DVD in a
bit so I'm not sure.

offline earthleakage from tell the world you're winning on 2005-02-23 15:04 [#01510092]

no, dvd-video needs the dvd 'bits & pieces'

offline xceque on 2005-02-23 15:05 [#01510096]

Hmm. So you're trying to burn an avi file with a DVD burner
onto a DVD disc? I'm not sure what "bit's & pieces" means.

ok how do i convert avi or mpg files to dvd files?

If you drag the avi files into a DVD project in Nero maybe
it converts them. I've only ever tried to burn DVD files
into a DVD project :(

There's forums full of geeky posts about how to use this and
that rubbish utility to turn one format into another and
into a third then demux and flux and fuckybux into something
else to burn onto a DVD.

But I don't understand any of it.

I'm rubbish :(

someone on here must know! in fact the chances are someone
on here is probably making a living from making fake dvds
from avi/mpg/divx rips they downloaded

Use Nero Quickstart thingy an choose to make a DVD-Video.
Then you just select the file/files you want to burn and it
does it for you.

Rather than mucking about with conversion (which takes
forever) - you might want to buy a dvd player that plays
divx/xvid/mpg files on a regular CD/DVD data disc. I got a
Philips DVP642 for about $60. Well worth the money if you
ask me.

Good point, well made! A far simpler option.
