I prefer CD, especially for mixing, I only buy vinyl when
there's no other alternative.

do you play discos?

offline Exaph from United Kingdom on 2005-02-23 06:46 [#01509295]
Points: 3718 Status: Lurker

theyre better quality; theyre analog, theyre cool, theyre
collectable, they have been a djing standard for years, they
force u to treat them well, blah blah blah, open your
frickin mind,,, just because something is new doesnt mean it
is better. cds are a mere alternative.

It doesn't jump, it's easier to qeue, the beats stay locked
in for longer (no drift), and you get a proper time display
of how long left to go.

Where's the fun in that?

I love having to keep an eye on the tracks. Listening
intently to them to make sure they don't go out. Oh man! I
fucking love that. Once it's beatmatched with CD you're
done!

offline Exaph from United Kingdom on 2005-02-23 06:49 [#01509302]

in fact.. they arent even always an alt. cds are tacky and
flimsy.. if i could swap all mine for vinyls i would.

The timing doesn't mean shit if you don't know the tune. On
vinyl you can atleast have a visual reference on how an
unfamiliar tune ends

that's just asking for trouble.

So your narrow-minded? Cool. I prefer Vinyl although I only
own the Drukqs box set. But I still buy CD's.

Vinyl sounds better, is better and creates good karma for
the beholder. Buy it and go to heaven.

This 'debate' will never end. But it should, because I'm
right.

It only works if you play generic dance music surely?
electronica needs time and effort to mix properly and you DO
need to learn your tracks if you wanna be smooth.

why vinyl:
1) wonderfull quality of sound (needs a good cartridge)
2) looks beautiful
3) girls like it
4) you can always burn a copy of it to a cd

Unfortunately I have none online (to my knowledge) but I'd
be happy to post some mixes if you like, my stuffs mainly
semi chilled electronica boc type stuff, I like a lot of
Russian material.

CD's will inevitably be replaced soon anyhoo so stop bumming
them... you'll be using them as coasters in 20 years tops,
whilst vinyls will still be doing the rounds and amassing
great value.

Bring on the dvds, et al..

well, considering i dont care, no im not narrow minded - i
just have a preferrance for not buying vinyl.

im not a dj, im dont listen to music when im at home, unless
its the radio - i really only listen to music on the go.

like when they were gonna be replaced by DAT, then by
minidisc, then by SA CD, think I've heard that before
somewhere.

Oh yeah! I can't fucking stand the place. The one in
Dunstable makes me vomit and last time I nearly snapped a
table because I was streessing out. The one in Hitchin (I
think it's Hitchin) is just as bad. There's another bar in
Hitchin called CoBarCabana. It's awful.

my deal with vinyl is that, yes it sounds great, and yes it
probably the closest you will ever get to the sound the
artist intended, and yes its better than cd/mp3/dvd or
whatever else comes next...the point is I DONT GIVE A FUCK,
I WILL NEXT BUY IT, hopefully that clears any confusion up.
