Clockwork Orange Ending

I've seen this a few times and I read the book up until the
last 2-3 chapters.. but I've always been uncertain as to
what happens .. or happens to alex .. at the end when he
pulls that face.

did the gov't "take care of him" by rendering him braindead
or in some sort of dreamstate.. or what? I dont know if this
is something left to interpretation or if there was
something that I missed by not reading the book's final
chapters

eh?

he was cured. he could listen to beethoven and daydream
about rape and whatnot without feeling ill.

apparently you have only seen the us version. in the other
one, alex grows up and lives in a house with a white picket
fence and whatnot.

He is fully cured plus the government pays him well to keep
quiet about the procedure. I wish it didn't show his dick
though.

Jack says to Tyler "My eyes are open" and shoots himself.
Ohhh wait... no... scratch that.

it's an ironic ending. he knows he's "cured" because the
association with the music has made him feel ill again hence
the paradoxical definition of being well as defined by the
state has worked. he is now safe from being able to harm
anyone due to the operand conditioning in the brainwashing.
pavlov would be proud!

the extra bit at the end that is mentioned which is also in
the book ruins the film.

i've seen parts. i've never really been interested.

my previous post was in the interest of humor, although it
was lacking quite a bit. :)

do what i did and get really stoned before you watch it for
the first time. i hadn't a clue what the fuck was going on
until about halfway through :) the dialogue is amazing.

sounds like a night

although part of that activity is against a new years
resolution of mine, and it's not the movie watching part. :)

oh is that right? i thought the movie was missing a whole
chunk. how alex realises his purpose is to be a family man
:)

the book originally was published in two versions too, if I
remember correctly, with two different endings.

indeed one with him just continuing, the other with him
wanting to start up a family.

I read the one where he wanted to start a family and not
hang around with the "guys" anymore. I thought he'd just
grown up really. I like the film because I like anything
with Malcolm McDowell in, all the classics "if...", "O Lucky
Man", "The Passage", "Britannia Hospital", "Figures in a
landscape", "Royal Flash"...... um "Blue Thunder"....
"Class of 1999" and... um it goes downhill.... "Cyborg 3:
The Recycler" etc

And of course, the full-.on, extra porn version of Caligula.
Sorely underrated, it is quite good. I still say "Dance,
Little Boots" to this day.

At the end of the book, after the government cleans up the
conditioning done to his head by the ludiveco stuff, he gets
back to his old business with a new gang of droogs. Then he
sees one of his old droogs, married with a carreer and such,
and he decides to clean up his life.

the last chapter of the book has Alex becoming a mature
adult and sort of growing up and realizing that his previous
life style is no good for him anymore.. i think he is
sitting in the bar, and looking at some new lot of young
ruffians and reflecting on his own life.

the whole point was, that Alex is not a machine, that he is
able to change and make decisions for himself. that man
should not be made into a 'clockwork orange' or in other
words, an organic, living organism with mechanical laws
applied to it.

great book, great movie!
