It's pretty far out actually...Some of my friends just started a record-label (and I'm not talking about two guys in a basement thinking "hey! a record-label!"). They have invested €25.000,- in making a small homestudio, and they furthermore have access to a €70.000,- studio where I can do what i want! and they pay it! So the record-deal is like this; I have 6-12 months to finish an album, and it will be released (worldwide if possible) in 500-1000 copies for starters. 300+ of these copies will be for promotion (i.e. background-music for video-games, radio, movies, whateva) and the rest for sale. Since I have full access to a big studio, and I have a producer to help me, I will probly end up making something else than "just" electronic music. I mean, I have been playing bass-guitar for 8 years+, and I have so many connections to people that play all sorts of instruments. So bottom line is; I'm signed to a record-label, and I'm gonna make some crazy-ass experimental music with the influences of Beck, Radiohead, all the metal I've been listening to all these years, and of course IDM. And afterwards a small Denmark-tour covering 4 gigs (Denmark is a small country..heh..). Plus the deal includes any new equipment i might need...so i'm getting new jazz-pickups for my bass-guitar :) Only bad thing about this is that I still need to sign the contract, but it's getting done in 2 weeks. But i'm not worried, cause my manager is one of my friends, so I believe his words. Besides; one of the other guys signed on this label just got clothes at the price of €375, just for being signed :) |

well, the smaller electronica stages is allways packed with dancing potheads, so there will be some sort of audience for sure =D And if you mean you wont have an big enough audience for getting allowed to play there, well.. i have been visiting roskilde for several years in a row and i have seen loads of artist playing at the electronica scenes that honestly was totally worthless.. fairly unknown people with fairly boring dance music + if you will involve instruments and "real" stuff in your future tracks then theres a bigger chance that people would want you to play live as it's "more fun" acording to many to see live stuff. I understand if you dont want to put to much in it =D but still, allways give everything a shot, you never know untill you tryed and so on... (coming from a guy who is too lazy to even send out a demo) haha =D well anyway, good luck! and make sure you report to the xltronicers whatever happens, im allways interested in hearing how it "goes" for artists |
