the only think aphex has done that i would classify as
"shit" was smojphace.. and, i'm resonably convinced that it
is some sort of odd inside joke that we just don't get.

I hate Confiled. I hate Draft 7.30. I hate Gantz Graf.
Anything earlier than that is good. I just hate all his
shifted beat, which are out of tempo, it actually makes me
feel sick.

I'm sure there were more die hard aphex fans on this board.
It's like that poll taken a while ago when ae came 1st and

i've got a few ae albums, but haven't listened to them much.
they seem pretty quiet and not very exciting.

can anyone recommend some ae albums that are a bit more
pumpin?

well...warp did raise their names for about 50% of the music
quality they have, but if you look at them from the creative
standpoint you can see that they both influenced idm
community a lot.
especially afx with those shaky fills with the drums and ae
with pitchshifting and buffer overdrives.

My order would go:

1. aphex
2. squarepusher
3. boards of canada
4. ae

And not even at 4. I actually like Orange Dust more than ae!

Said in slowed down robot voice, panned hard left:

Aaaaaaaappppheeeexxxxxx.

Ae are pretty good, with a few excellent tracks, but too
much of their stuff is too abstract and samey (s'all glitch,
innit?) for my taste.

i think afx is more of a musicians musician, that is he
makes music more geared towards dj's or electronic musicians
- ae does this in a way, but their stuff is more abstract -
i like it better.

well, you see, i very much agree with your definition, but
for me the pahex is the best one at what he does while there
are other artists producing more abstract and more likable
music for my taste :)
