Aphex, I guess. There's an erratic, random nature to his
canon of tunes that I appreciate. But I arguably like
Autechre even more than Aphex.

I'm a Freescha-guy.

well you see, it is a matter of taste, and i should have
stated so, by no means to i consider ae better than afx, in
any sort of way, aside from my own opinion, but i get what
youre saying about afx producing great music, as i think
this is the case, but ae imo make music that has more of an
impact on me, i feel their stuff more.

wow...i only like the fact that it's my first time i saw him
perform,other than that no.
the music is too much minimal acid (wtf/lol)

well, that minimal acid is my favourite part in that set :)

and it's all so perfectly timed and mixed together..you
don't even notice the passes from one song to another and
it's totally various music he's playing. it's nothing
experimental, nothing to adventurous, it's the selection of
songs what that is all about..first a bit chilly, something
to warm you up and then it's just getting harsher and
completly fucks you up at the end..it's music to dance to as
opposed to experimentation.

autechre. aphex twin is obsolete. the only thing that was
interesting about his music was 200 snare-drums in a
measure. how fresh.

yea,i noticed the mixes are well timed,but since i'm a dj i
have that itch to notice when one track passes to another.
is he playing live there or just a dj set?

well, ofcourse you can notice the passes, but it's still
very subtle :)
it was a laptop set apperantly, as i don't see him change
any vinyls, so he could have prerecorded it hehe, although
by the looks of it he was mixing the songs live, and he was
using that mixer quite a bit i think..both times i saw him
he was playing from his laptop and vinyls all at
once..personally i see him as the best dj, maybe not
technically, but his selection of music totally suits my
taste..especially what i want to hear when i go to a gig -
something to dance to.

cause they're easier on the ears - it has a lot to do with a
track's structure, I think.

most popular "IDM" tracks are just popsongs with slightly
weird sounds - verse/chorus/verse/chorus.. maybe even a
bridge!

as soon as the structure starts deviating people tend to
walk away.

you should have played her some less abstract songs
then..they put out some nice ones. i don't know the titles,
but there are some quite melodic and emotional ones!

as soon as the structure starts deviating people tend to
walk away.

its funny you say this because even a lot of people who love
music follow this type of listener, i find myself getting
more involved in the music when there is something unique
about it, whether it be structure or sound etc.

<- that is not to say, im some type of musical elitist or
something i enjoy pop music as much as anyone, and i own
basically all afx and plaid etc. its just ae will stay with
me more, their stuff is more important to me.

all kinds of musical structures can be great to listen to,
be they more traditional or not.

I feel like I should be wearing a labcoat.

i see..that's a problem then. do you compromise that when
you, lets say, ridea in a car somewhere, or you just listen
to what she prefers? :)

labcoat: yes,
but dont you find you can still enjoy non-traditional stuff
rather than examine it? i may have to examine ae's stuff,
but at the end of the day, it retains its musical beauty and
becomes a more important musical piece for me, it effects me
on a different level, without me having to fully see the
guts of the track or piece.

there were different phases:

when we first dated, all my stuff all of the time - with
little resistance from her

after about 2 years, some of the less harsh stuff, and maybe
her stuff here and there - with little ...

now, the radio, she will not stand anything not resembling
music,

:( oh well, she did buy me a nice pair of bose headphones.

i <3 autechre

aphex has some really cool fantastic stuff, but i hardly
ever listen to him. as much as i love selected ambient
works v2 and loads of his other stuff, i cannot get by
without amber and everything else they've done! i am
thrilled to bits that they are coming out with something
this year; i have been waiting patiently. plus i am a huge
skam records junkie (i guess for the earlier skam releases
anyway), and i love gescom.

Ae, probably. Although i don't listen to either of them all
that much. SAW1 and Surfing On Sine Waves hold a special
little place in my heart, though.
