Brief Encounter, directed by David Lean and written by Noel
Coward, is a beautiful and elegaic film. I highly recommend
you watch it if you ever have the chance! I have it on DVD!

elegiac is a great word.

a romance/drama from 1945? it's not boring? i've yet to
see an american film from the 40's that i've really enjoyed.
they're usually propaganda films or racist or just
badly-made. so what did you like most about it?

actually, i take part of that back, because there are some
really good hitchcock films from that period.

but lately, i've been watching a lot of american films from
that decade, and they have all been really really
disappointing.

Don't forget, Hitchcock was British. And so is Brief
Encounter. And it's from 1946 ;)

ah! now here we go. i made a couple errors by not looking
closely enough at the imdb page.

i know hitchcock was british, but didn't he make a lot of
films in hollywood?

i will try and check this "picture" out...

Why, "Dr. Strangelove - or: how I learned to stop worrying
and love the bomb" of course, it's simply the best movie
ever made.

There are many. It's a whole many years of black and white
films. The only I own are Even Dwarfs Started Small and
Night of the Hunter, both of those are very good.

Manhatten! FUcking excellent film! It seems to have aged
less than other Woody Allen films and I think the B&W has
got something to do with it.

It is amazing the amount of people around who still refuse
to watch Black & White films. As many of the films herein
mentioned testify, these Ignorami are missing out on so much
greatness.

Nuit et Brouillard ('Night and Fog')

in about 35 minutes this film/documentary learns you more
about the holocaust than all other documentaries about this
subject

not exactly 'great' the way like it is probably meant in
this thread, yet i'd recommend it to everyone

12 Angry Men's a great B&W flick. Think it's 1950's, it
pretty much all takes place in one room the shooting, about
a jury attempting to decide whether to condemn a young man
to the death sentance. Brilliant stuff.
