Nooooooooo, not Dimebag!

A small part of my soul circa 8th grade is irreparably
broken.

At Least 3 Dead, 4 Wounded In Nightclub Shooting
Witnesses: Alleged Gunman Went Onto Stage, Fired Shots

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- At least three people died and four others
were wounded after a shooting at a Columbus nightclub on
Wednesday night, NBC 4 reported.

The shooting took place shortly after 10 p.m. at Alrosa
Villa, located at 5055 Sinclair Road.

Two members of the heavy metal band Damageplan were
reportedly shot and killed, including Dimebag Darrell,
formerly with the band Pantera, NBC 4's David Wayne
reported. The alleged gunman also died at the scene, Wayne
reported.

Shortly after the band began playing its first song, a man
reportedly ran onto the stage and began shooting, according
to a witness who identified himself as Sean. Some members of
the audience reportedly thought the man running onto the
stage with a gun was part of the band's act, NBC 4's Erin
Tate reported.

Witnesses said that several shots were fired at the band.
Witnesses said that a bouncer at the club tackled the
alleged gunman before that person was shot and killed. It
was unclear as to whom shot the alleged gunman.

Alrosa Villa is a popular north Columbus nightspot for young
adults, featuring rock and heavy metal bands, NBC 4
reported.

According to the band's Web site, Damageplan was touring
nationally. It performed in Buffalo, N.Y., on Tuesday night
and had a concert scheduled in Flint, Mich., on Thursday.

Damageplan featured former Pantera artists Dimebag Darrell
and Vinnie Paul. The pair were joined by vocalist Patrick
Lachman and bassist Bobzilla, according to their Web site.

As far back as i can remember he was always one of my
favorite guitarists. He had an incredible style all of his
own. It was always fun watching his backstage antics.
Weather it was working over Billy Milano on stage, smashing
up a friends car ("fuck it, ima buy him a new one") or just
pounding drinks and entertaining his fans.

The Cadillac Rockbox will surely be missed.

this is sad people! even if you didn't like pantera, its
fucking really shitty that they were gunned down during a
performance. I can see if some losers overdosed on heroin or
crack, but the fact that someone decided to take a life of a
bunch of musicians (during a concert no less) is fucking gay
an stupid.

I really liked the song "floods" and "revolution is my

This is the first time i have really been effected by a loss
of a musician.

I really loved his style and his personality. Ever since i
was around 12 and my sister gave me a pantera tape. That was
10 years of loving his style.

It's so odd and way before his time. Yeah on stage.... what
the hell? This is so unprovoked and cowardly. damn

By CHELSEA J. CARTER, AP National Writer

"Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, who was fatally shot during a
performance, was a frenetic, ear-shattering guitarist whose
riffs for Pantera and more recently Damageplan were a staple
of heavy metal music. He was 38.

Abbott was shot to death as he took the stage Wednesday with
Damageplan and began to play the first song of the concert
at the Alrosa Villa nightclub in Columbus, Ohio.

Three other people also were fatally shot before a police
officer shot to death the gunman.

The deaths shook the heavy metal music industry as
colleagues reeled from the news and fans flooded Web sites
to share their grief.

"This is insane and this is beyond travesty," Killswitch
Engage frontman and former Damageplan tour partner Howard
Jones told MTV. "This is beyond anything I've ever heard.
This shouldn't happen in or outside of the rock and metal
community. He will be missed and mourned as a person, as a
musician, and as a friend."

Rob Blasko Nicholson, the former Ozzy Osbourne bassist, told
the music channel Abbott was a legend.

"I'm speechless," he said. "This is totally unreal."

"When you think of '90s heavy metal or hard rock, Pantera is
one of these seminal bands. They are quoted today as
influences by many bands," said Tom Calderone, MTV's
executive vice president. "Hard rock has lost a legendary
guitar player."

Abbott and his brother, former Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul,
produced Damageplan's debut album, "New Found Power," which
was released in February. Other band members are vocalist
Patrick Lachman and bassist Bob Zilla.

"Damageplan carries on the tradition Pantera started, the
... hell-raising tradition we were all about," Vinnie Paul
Abbott told The Dallas Morning News in October. "We do play
some Pantera songs. Me and Dime wrote them, and we feel like
we have the right to play them. But the focus is on
Damageplan."

Born on Aug. 20, 1966, in Dallas, Darrell Abbott and his
brother were introduced to music by their father, country
songwriter Jerry Abbott, who owned a recording studio.
Although Abbott grew up around country music, he often said
he gravitated toward rock music and was influenced by the
likes of Tony Iommi, Ace Frehley, Eddie Van Halen (news) and
the late Randy Rhodes.

The Abbott brothers and bassist Rex Rocker formed Pantera in
1983. Then Abbott went by the name "Diamond Darrell." Abbott
later began to use "Dimebag" and was often referred to as
"Dime" by fans and friends.

Pantera's early music leaned more toward hard rock. Joined
in 1987 by singer Phil Anselmo, the band began to develop a
heavier sound. After releasing a few independent albums,
Pantera signed with Atlantic Records in 1990. It was also
the period when Abbott came into his own as a guitar player,
developing his heavy, frenetic sound that can first be heard
on the 1990 album "Cowboys from Hell" and on the 1992
standout "Vulgar Display of Power." It was followed up by
1994's "Far Beyond Driven."

Pantera's manager Kim Zide-Davis, who worked with Abbott
1994 to 2003, was overwhelmed by the news of his death. She
told the AP she often told the guitarist he was "a living
cartoon character."

"He would do things that you wouldn't believe a real person
was capable of," she said.

She said there was a sweet and caring side of Abbott that
many people never saw.

"Everything you saw from him was real. That was who he was,"
she said. "He lived and unfortunately died by his guitar.
What you saw on stage was his enjoyment."

Abbott and his brother left Pantera in 2003 and formed
Damageplan. In recent years, he also made recording
appearances on Nickleback's "The Long Road" and with one of
his influences, KISS' Ace Frehley.

Dozens of messages were posted to the Dallas band's Web site
after the shootings.

"This is the worst day in metal history," one posting read.

Written @ punktorrents

And one other thing. Phil Anselmo has apparently been
saying shit about him in Metal Hammer, saying Darrell needs
a beating, or something. How much of a cunt is he feeling
now?

I kinda lost any respect for Anselmo when he had that Heroin
overdose. Ok, people make mistakes, but to do it again? No
respect from me at all.

Phil survives two near-death experiences and lives.

Darrell gets killed doing the thing he loves most.

No fuckin' justice in the world...

Reverend reverend is this some conspiracy?
Crucified for no sins
An image beneath me
Whats within our plans for life
It all seems so unreal
I'm a man cut in half in this world
Left in my misery...

The reverend he turned to me
Without a tear in his eyes
It's nothing new for him to see
I didn't ask him why
I will remember
The love our souls had
Sworn to make
Now I watch the falling rain
All my mind can see
Now is your (face)

Well I guess
You took my youth
I gave it all away
Like the birth of a
New-found joy
This love would end in rage
And when she died
I couldn't cry
The pride within my soul
You left me incomplete
Memories now unfold.

Believe the word
I will unlock my door
And pass the
Cemetery gates

Sometimes when I'm alone
I wonder aloud
If you're watching over me
Some place far abound
I must reverse my life
I can't live in the past
Then set my soul free
Belong to me at last

Through all those
Complex years
I thought I was alone
I didn't care to look around
And make this world my own
And when she died
I should've cried and spared myself some pain...
Left me incomplete
All alone as the memories still remain

The way we were
The chance to save my soul
And my concern is now in vain
Believe the word
I will unlock my door
And pass the cemetery gates
