Favorite Guitar Solos

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2002-01-13 23:50 [#00069407]

anyone ever hear the song Your Gold Teeth II by Steely Dan?
If not, you should... the guitar solo in the solo is the
most amazing solo ever... check it out...

AMinal from toronto, canada on 2002-01-13 23:53 [#00069415]

my favourite guitar solo ever is the one (acutally there are
to of them) so in that case, both of the solos in
"Comfortably Numb" by pink floyd
i cant get enough of them

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2002-01-13 23:57 [#00069417]

yes yes, Comfortably Numb is excellent... Dave Gilmour is
like my favorite Guitarist ever... he's so perfect, not
super fast or anything, just perfect... I also like the
guitar work in Echoes during the little funky part... and
towards the end, the climax... great stuff...

AMinal from toronto, canada on 2002-01-13 23:58 [#00069418]

ya david gilmour is one of my favourite guitarists too
do u play the guitar?

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2002-01-14 00:34 [#00069422]

Oh yeah.... Dave Gilmour is the best, by far... Time from
DSOTM is my favorite solo.

I play guitar. Look at my guitar. I'm going to take this
opportunity to brag about my great guitar, it's gold.

AMinal from toronto, canada on 2002-01-14 00:40 [#00069426]

ophecks,
nice guitar
looks like an epiphone goldtop (?)

Quoth from Lincoln on 2002-01-14 00:44 [#00069427]

"Dazed & Confused" - Soundtrack for "The Song Remains The
Same" - Led Zeppelin

MadWomanVancouver from Yaletown on 2002-01-14 03:47 [#00069535]

"The guitar is an instrument from the dark ages.
It should be done and over with.
Rock is dead, its done."

Jake Liebezeit from CAN

Quoth from Lincoln on 2002-01-14 04:07 [#00069540]

no... i disagree... the guitar needs an original player yet
again. w/new sounds :)

it is possible :)

Caserol Joe the Chubby from Minneapolis on 2002-01-14 04:55 [#00069569]

I agree. The artist defines the music. Sigur Ros? Many
others...

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2002-01-14 05:05 [#00069575]

The guitar IS quite limiting... if you let it be that way.
But it's so physical, you can show lots of emotion through
your playing.

Well, the GOOD guitar players can, I sure as hell can't!

And if you're REALLY clever, like Sigur Ros and Radiohead,
than you don't have to depend on the guitar to be the focal
point (you know, generic guitar rock), and you can let it do
it's own thing, just another element in the song. If you're
depending on a riff or a solo to be the main part of your
song... you probably suck.

AMinal from toronto, canada on 2002-01-14 05:13 [#00069579]

ture
but remember, there are ways music can be good other than
being technically superior/more complex

titsworth_courier from washington, dc on 2002-01-14 05:43 [#00069580]

my fave guitar-employing non-rock band is Godspeed You Black
Emperor!. they predate sigur ros and are about a million
times better (though admittedly different in some ways)

corngrower from Iowa on 2002-01-14 08:16 [#00069608]

gotta go with Gilmour
I'de say marooned

Kalaim Badkaama from France on 2002-01-14 08:20 [#00069609]

all i have to say is "MARK KNOPFLER".
I really love the guitar solo in Sultans of swing.

phiz from Amsterdam on 2002-01-14 08:45 [#00069616]

Dweezil Zappa playing the solo from Sharlena on You cant do
that on stage anymore.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2002-01-14 17:28 [#00069802]

the guitar solos on The Divison Bell are awesome, some of
Gilmours best that I've heard... they're perfect sounding,
and yet really fast and melodic, and beautiful... you may
not like the album all that much (I love it personally) but
you gotta appreciate the guitar work on it...

AMinal from toronto, canada on 2002-01-14 21:40 [#00069866]

ya funks,
i love the guitar solos on division bell too
even if hte album isn't considered to be as good as their
earlier stuff

Caserol Joe the Chubby from Minneapolis on 2002-01-14 22:09 [#00069876]

Godspeed and Sigur Ros should not be rated against
eachother, imo.

Jarworski from Wales on 2002-01-14 23:17 [#00069904]

Anything by Josh Homme, especially:

Spaceship Landing
Gardenia
Whitewater
The Bronze
Give The Mule What He Wants

Adam Jones's solos are great...
Older guys like Satriani, Van Halen...
Dimebag Darrell
And Tom Morello, man he's wild

SiNaI on 2002-01-14 23:20 [#00069907]

The guitar on Sweet Child O Mine!! Always gives me
shivers..

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2002-01-14 23:29 [#00069913]

I love Pete Townshend of the Who. The guy's nose is so big.

Earface from from fomr fomrmti[jwpth on on 2002-01-15 00:58 [#00069976]

I'm sorry but there are some pretty shit guitar solos listed
here.

Knopfler's solo in Sultans of Swing is fucking terrible. I
don't know why anyone rates it. I could play better than
that with my feet.

Sweet Child of Mine is also a pile of fucking dog shit.

I don't mean to be antogonistic but I get very emotional
about this sort of thing.

I think that Jimi Hendrix's solo on his song Axis: Bold as
Love is one of my favourites.

AMinal from toronto, canada on 2002-01-15 01:00 [#00069979]

you think jimi hendrix is good?!?
wow.. i didnt see that one comin...

I find that Allan Holdsworth has the most strange and
beautiful guitar solos.

TIME!!!! From Dark Side of the Moon. I dunno, Comfortably
Numb's solo seems too ''wanky'' of something...

I think guitar solos a very, very, very stupid... but,
Messhuggah does some very interesting guitar work and their
'solos' which don't really sound like your conventional cock
rock bullshit, are badass.

99% of guitar solos suck, they're just there for the sake of
having a guitar solo... but those 1% can be really
breathtaking... David Gilmour's solo in ''Time'' on Dark
Side of the Moon makes me hard.

While the Pumpkins never had nearly as many prolific solos
as Pearl Jam or such, they have a few standouts.

In particular, the closing to Untitled is particularly bad
ass, a fine send off.

Try "The Asphalt World" by Suede. Get it off Audiogalaxy or
something. A truly superb guitar solo.
