Thinking of becoming Vegetarian

Over the past couple of weeks, I have been contemplating
becoming vegetarian... I'm most concerned about eating a
balanced and healthy diet, and is this REALLY possibly
without eating meat? If so, what do I eat that will provide
the nutrients traditionally provided by meat?

oh man... i just went vegan a few weeks ago... it's realy
easy, the food is better, and i feel incredible... plus i've
already lost another 8 pounds... so i've lost 38 pounds
since last year...
umm... i just eat lots of hummus, hummus wraps, tabuli, lots
of vegetables and fruits, brown rice, peanuts, pistachios,
tortilla chips and salsa... and you're gonna want to get
iron supplements and multi vitamins.
good luck!

bleh.
iron element is only in the meat.

idea ? the idea is that people were created to eat meat,
thats why you and we all have teeths.
vegetarian is something against evolution, but yeah, its
cool its trendy nowadays.

who knows, maybe i will become a buddhist ? or no, i want to
be hary krishna. or even elvis fan ! yeah !

It's possible, I know some pretty plump vegetarians. But
don't do it, Paul. A diet without meat is like a hamburger
with the actual hamburgery part taken out, leaving two buns
slathered with condiments. Useless.

hey marlowe, congrats. you can get a free vegetarian starter
kit with some tips and recipes here... they'll
send it for free. if you want further motivation to stop
eating meet, feel free to take a peek at any of
peta's videos of slaughterhouse operations. might
as well know where your food comes from.

i think it's very possible to have a healthy diet without
meat. the only nutrient that'll be hard to get is b12, and
you can take a supliment for that.

..i think it's b12.

Yeah, it's a lot to do with the fact that meat these days
seems to be totally corrupted and full of diseases. I'm not
sure if veggies are much better, but I normally buy organic
anyway! I'll check that site out - thanks CheefulPeddling!

I've considered it but I don't care enough to cause anyone
else any bother by going veggie so I'll reconsider when I go
to uni next year. I don't think it's really any healthier
particularly but I figure since I don't enjoy food that
much, I might as well save some animals. What tragedy said
doesn't sound too good though, I can't afford to lose
weight.

it is actually vitamin D that you are thinking of epohs, but
your body can produce that naturally from exposure to the
sun (ultra violet exposure). i was vegetarian for about 6
years and vegan for a year or so. if you eat balanced then
you wont have any problems at all.

when you eat vegetables you're basically eating the shit of
the animals that you should be eating.

the people that piss me off arre those that have sunday
dinnerrs without veg and have a burrgerr forr theirr lunch
each day etc... and expect to become vegetarrian. if you
like yourr veg then therre is no rreason why it should be
harrd orr unhealthy once you get into the swing off it.
getting into the swing off it is the harrd bit.

I also take vitamin supplements everyday - which give me
100% RDA of just about all, if not all of em!

I stay well away from watching these slaughter videos
because I do not want to know about the vile ways my lovely
food is made. I will continue to gorge myself on KFC and the
likes in happy ignorance for the rest of my life. Awesome.

I don't even eat that much meat as it is -- the occasional
plate of sausages - sunday dinners at my mum's is usually
meat-oriented, so that may be a bother.

I don't eat land animals or birds, but I eat fish, eggs,
milk and cheese. I also don't eat any junk food like chips
or sweets like cookies and things that come out of snack
machines, and no fast food. I eat big breakfasts, a small
lunch, like a salad or some fruit, and a normal dinner. I
didn't plan it that way but I've been doing that for a
couple of years now... I'm in good shape, and I excercise
three times a week, I would probably have a pretty healthy
diet, If I didn't start drinking White Russians at 3 PM,
then pounding beer till I pass out. But you know, do
whatever makes you feel good.

no, hummus is chickpeas... and it honestly tastes really
good. it's my favorite food right now.
you spread it on flat bread (like you would peanut butter on
a piece of bread) then you put lettuce, shredded carrots and
shredded cabbage on it... and then fold it into a wrap.
