I know its a bit crazy but I reckon that Richard James
should be honoured for all he has done for music no question
and while they're about they could honour a few others too.

Apart from the few here, he's relatively unknown I
think........just ask other people who aren't into IDM.

Richard who??!?!?

im sure he would accept it :)

You just have to nominate him. Fact is he should definitely
be Knighted. The nominations wouldn't be a problem it'd be
the final say that'd be hard.

who the hell would care whether they are knighted or not
anyway..?

I would be very surprised if D. James would.

Yes but ask all the artists that make the shit people like
and see how many of them he has influenced. But in turn
Richard has been really influened by many people. The true
pioneers are the ones that tend to go unnoticed.

Well I reckon he should be honoured. Quite frankly its no
different from the existing accolades he receives daily
accept its on a bigger more official stage.

I'm sick of seeing Joe Dinosour Rock Star being honoured,
when I think other music rules and goes a million time
deeper musically.

so what's the difference?

he already received all the accolades, why make it official?

No you receive no money just the honour.

Come on though seriously its about time, think of an artist
more influential and not only that but who has created so
much joy and pleasure for people? Well if Aphex wasn't
nominated then it should be Tom J, Mike P or BOC.

than just Joe Dinosour Rockstar and the mediocre music band.

In fact that award he won recently in Switzerland, which I
might add was long overdue, he was absolutely beeming.

what award was that??

offline ecnadniarb on 2004-01-07 17:57 [#01022534]
Points: 24805 Status: Lurker | Show recordbag

Why does he deserve it? He has made a form of music that is
relatively popular and has made a lot of money in the
process. Not I know there is at least on person here who
thinks he has sold out to the corporate devils, but
personally I don't have a problem with that...you can't go
giving knighthoods to everyone you really like though, and
he hasn't done anything to further the British image which
is what they are actually awarded for.

Yeah right I am a real pioneer in getting slaughtered down
the ale house and then pissing myself while I am asleep...if
any cunt starts making money out of doing that then I am
going to be very pissed off.

offline promo from United Kingdom on 2004-01-07 17:59 [#01022540]
Points: 4227 Status: Addict

Well that is not strictly true. Honours are handed out for a
whole range of activities, the arts, science, charitable
work, business, civil service etc etc. Lots of musicians
receive honours and the basic reason for that is because
they've given pleasure to people. I think Aphex has done
that.

offline promo from United Kingdom on 2004-01-07 18:02 [#01022543]
Points: 4227 Status: Addict

Majority of honours are handed out for charitable work by
the way just to lay any misconseptions to rest.

What misconception? Are you on fucking drugs or something?
If you are going to be handing out knighthoods for giving
people pleasure through music you would have to knight a
shit load of people before you knight RDJ, people like David
Grey and Daniel Beddingfield give a far greater proportion
of the worlds population pleasure than RDJ.

That mother fucker should be knighted. I have suffered from
dehydration thanks to his beautiful evocative art films.

offline promo from United Kingdom on 2004-01-07 18:15 [#01022561]

Well I think the general guidelines include things that
people have done which are revolutionary. I would say Aphex
hits the spot there.

Then you obviously don't know the history of electronic
music very well.

offline promo from United Kingdom on 2004-01-07 18:36 [#01022611]

Well sure I'd agree that the old guys should be acknowledged
of course. Its just probably a lot of the old heads have
passed away or wouldn't get the kinda of support that say
Aphex would in this day and age.

I don't understand ecnadniarb why you're so down on Aphex?

offline qrter from the future, and it works (Netherlands, The) on 2004-01-07 18:38 [#01022617]

I believe it has more to do with the logic of this - why
knight Aphex over other people?

offline ecnadniarb on 2004-01-07 18:40 [#01022623]
Points: 24805 Status: Lurker | Show recordbag

Precisely, I'm not down on Aphex at all. And personally I
consider Luke Vibert more of a pioneer than Aphex,
particularly when it comes to the style of Aphex music that
most people enjoy. (I mean drill)

offline promo from United Kingdom on 2004-01-07 18:41 [#01022627]
Points: 4227 Status: Addict

Oh I see, well no particular reason but isn't that the point
why knight Eric Clapton over Kraftwerk? All I'm saying is
that people have to have done something fairly original or
whatever and created a lot of pleasure for people that seems
the general guidelines and I would have thought that Aphex
fits the bill.

Aphex Twin is about as famous as any IDM type artist gets...
he isn't mainstream, but you leave the mainstream to look
for more underground electronic music, and he's the first
artist you come across...

They could receive a KBE, however they could not hold the
title Sir Kraftwerk...and it is quite rare that they are
given out to foreign scum.

No one other than me...full stop. The whole honour system
should be scrapped anyway. It is a commonly accepted fact
that the high profile homours are given out for purely
political or financial reasons.

Totally off topic but am listening to this Amen Andrews
track and I love that track with the Darth Vader 'Dark Side'
sample in it. Great stuff.
