I had this for Christmas - absolutely amazing! It totals 9
DVDs. It has the original theatrical releases and the
Special Editions. Also loads of bonus, behind the scenes
footage. All in all over 40 hours of viewing!

Any other Alien fans out there, how have this?

Well it has been so long since I saw the original, but there
were certainly bits I don't remember seeing. Besides, I
haven't watched the whole thing yet.......its gonna take
time! :D

30 minutes have been restored. it's Fincher's original cut.

BIG add-on is that they catch the alien about halfway
through the film. one of the prisoners, the one who sees the
alien and calls it a "dragon" sees it as a kind of godlike
creature and goes and frees it.

it gives it a whole new depth.

the CGI for the new scenes isn't that great though - you can
clearly see the difference. but the whole film goes up a
notch, I think.

and I'm a big alien-fan, so I'm not that easy to please. :)

it costs quite a bit but it is stuffed to the brim with
extra's.

I got my Christmas Bonus from work on the day it was
released in the UK - the 8th Dec, so I went RIGHT to ASDA as
soon as I got out of work, and bought it.

Trouble is I think that the Aliens disc is fucked - very
slight audio/video out of sync prob, enough to piss me off
royally...gotta take it back to get a new one
tomorrow...other than that, THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST BUYS OF
THE YEAR!

I highly recommend it

buy.

just watched Alien for the first ever time... it was really
good... real nerve racking and edge of your seat type
stuff... obviously the special effects were kind of lame for
nowadays, but still... it was good!

I remember going on the movie ride at MGM Studios in
Disneyworld in Orlando when I was a kid, and being totally
freaked out by the Alien part of the ride! :)

Aliens is the best of them all.

"They mostly come at night.... mostly"

The colonial marines are so fucking badass.. I've got a book
called "the Colonial marines Technical Field Manual" That
explains everything about how they operate, it's so fuggin
cool. Semper Fi!

When people say Directors Cut do they mean Special Edition?
The only official Directors Cut is with Alien. Alien 3 is
the original directors print that the studio fucked with
afterwards. Alien 4 is an extended version that the director
had no hand in.

Aye, SE I meant. It was good to see but I'd rather watch the
original version on repeated viewings, it drags less.

There's a few moments that would've been best left out of
the specialedition as well. I don't really care about
learning Ripley's first name or that her child is dead. Any
person could clearly see that 57 years in hyper sleep would
more or less mean everyone you knew was dead or nearing that
way. I've only watched the theatrical edition twice though
and always watch the special one. I don't know why.

I don't agree.

I like the little part where Ripley and Hicks tell eachother
their first names - it is not for your information, it is
for their information - it does however tell us about the
amount of trust that has developed between them.

I do agree on the dead child seen a bit though. it does
however explain her maternal instincts towards Newt later
on, but maybe a bit too much.

where did you get the idea that Jeunet had no hand in the
Alien 4 in the set..? he says in the introduction that the
original print is the director's cut, that it's completely
like he wanted it to be. but he made this version with a
different beginning and ending for the Alien fans, more or
less, just to show what could have been.
(and what a crap beginning it would have been jeeeeeesus..)

I see your point about the name telling bit.

I haven't watched it yet. I skim read the leaflet on the day
I got the set and I remembered it as saying that he was
happy with the film and didn't want to change it. I'll

Okay, i just went back to ASDA and changed my quadrilogy box
set because of the problem i was having - the audio was out
of sync with the video for the Aliens disc (3rd disc).

The new copy is exactly the same :(

It's nothing to do with my DVD drive, it's a fucking iBook
for christ's sake, and I've never had ANY problem with any
other disc, so I'm writing off to Fox to complain

:(
