I'm in the middle of switching computers and right in the middle of this the harddisk in my "old" computer got messed up a lot, causing loads of trouble during the migration.
Windows XP suddenly restarted and upon the boot it told me a chkdsk was required. XP founda lot of CRC mismatches and was trying to rebuild the index - which apparently failed. The results from this are the following: 80% (= 190 Gb data) of all my files got mismatched - which means if you play track A it suddenly play track B instead - which are located completely elsewhere. I'm in the middle of exploring the extents of this incredible disaster.
I'm still alive but only have access to internet via a temp. Win XP installation - actually I dont have any software installed apart from the OS which indeed limits my usual set of daily routines/tasks.
That's life.

Sorry to hear that mate- you don't realise what a significant part of your life a pc is till it goes wrong. I remember someone here saying that a hard disk crash is similair to small section of your memory (in your brain) being lost. I think it's a good analogy.

I had something similar about a year ago, where I would click to play something and it would start in the middle of another track.
It is always bad when something like this happens though. Sometimes it is worse then just losing everything because you always try to figure out how to fix it, and waste so much time doing it. Also you can't back anything up because even though you can see it all there. :(
Hope you get it sorted.

all my compassion to you.... (and to anyone having problems here if there is someone else!!)
i hope you're ok, morally speaking? ' _ ' ...
i know it causes a lot of trouble when computer problems happen, and i usually go berserk/depressed for a few days when it happens.... (and it's FAR too common - my computer is worrying me at the moment too... maybe... ah well)
