When someone creates a thread about his/her new music, what do you do?

offline Phobiazero from the next Xltronic (Sweden) on 2003-10-01 06:56 [#00885093]

The original poll-suggestion from theo himself was:

when someone creates a thread about his/her new music, do
you:

- Ignore the thread completely
- Listen to their work (open to hear all xlt artists)
- Listen only if you've heard other music from them you
like
- Listen only if you've heard a persistant rumor from
multiple individuals
speculating the xlt member's identity that suggests he has a
deal with Warp
or Rephlex

alright.. then a second part .. only if they did NOT choose
the first
option:

I:

- always provide constructive criticsm
- never respond
- respond only if I really enjoyed it/was impressed by their
work
- respond only if I thought it was laughable and
amateurish.. just for the
fun of crushing this amateur auteur's remote hopes of
eventually landing a
Skam or Tigerbeat6 deal.

OR

my general feeling towards xltronic artist's work is:

I like to hear as much as possible, just to hear something
new
I feel some people just don't have it and should stay fans
I think there is a lot of developing talent at this site and
I always look
forward to hearing more from certain people
I generally ignore xltronic members' work

mmm

stupid me just created a thread spamming my music.. didnt
notice this

i didnt want to stirr the shit up! ...

anyway

I listen to their work, but only if im not doing something
else atm

I sometimes respond, only if the track has something..
special (can be negative too!)

Theres a lot of developing talent...

my 2 cents

my favorite part of this board is the members music... lots
of talent here... if someone posts a link to there music, i
will definatly listen if i can stream it... for i am on dial
up... but i will download quite often if i cant stream... i
have a habit of not posting thoughts though... wether i
liked the track or not...

If something's really bad I won't comment on it. If it's got
good elements I'll point out what they are. I'm more
inclined to DL a track by someone if one of the following
criteria are matched:

I've talked to them about making music.

They DLed and commented on my tracks.

I've spoken to them at length on or off the board.

I've heard their stuff in the past and liked it.

Lots of other people are giving positive comments about the
track.

i just voted 3,
I only check out the music when I feel for it... not too
often (3)

well i do try to check music often, but picking 1 seems like
lying to me, its not that i dl every single track

oh yeah...Note I for some reason have a
credibility-issue with people coming in here without posting
anything else but their music, and who haven't even bothered
to fill out their profile with information regarding other
than promotion for downloading. Never the less getting an

I always ignore it.

Its not that i dont want to listen, i just never have the
time, and i can never enjoy music coming from a
computer...plus i dont want to listen. 85% of the music ive
heard by real artists is crap, regardless of genre, i dont
need to hear amatures as well. sorry.

Yeah, they should invest the time to talk to us if they want
our feedback, otherwise it is blatant spam. I could sign up
to 100 MBs and post links to each of my new tracks on each
one, whilst never participating in any of them, but that'd
be rude as fuck...

have programmed the board so that it deleted profiles with

I don't know, there are some long term people like that guy
who comes and posts links to his films from time to time and
the oldschool members who don't come here very often that I
would hate to see removed by smething like that. On the
other hand, it probably would help removing trolling
accounts.

But as I can't listen to them at work I have to try and
remember to do this at home. I dont' have the best memory
though.

- always provide constructive criticsm

If I can. If I can't then I'll just post that I liked it.

I think there is a lot of developing talent at this site

The people who I think are good know who they are. I've said
to them here on MSN that I like their stuff. Once again my
memory comes into play so often I forget to comment as I
wait so long for the download to finish. It's not wasy
downloading a 9meg mp3 off of someone when your connection
is dialup and slow to boot.

I like listening to the music on the board, because it does
three things.

1) Inspires ideas

2) If the song is really bad it makes me more confident in
my abilities

3) If the song is excellent then it spurs me to get better.

And I think it is a great platform for new and unsigned
music. this is an electronica forum after all. I mutch
prefer the musical threads than the countless comparisons
and analysis of established artits such as Boc and Aphex
Twin.

Self promotion is quite healthy. After all, these people
that make the music have put the time into their creations.
And they are getting people listen or download for Free!!
FREE OF CHARGE!!

I don`t see that as spam. I see that as generosity.

:DD

I try to listen to others music when I have the time. I will
respond with constructive critism 90% of the time, no matter
if the song is good or bad. There IS a lot of talented
people here who do make music and I think they need to share
it with others. Its always nice hearing new things.

simple...browse users...sort by status...find the page where
the last profile with 10 posts is and use a calculator to
figure out how many there is between that page and the last
page.

I used to listen to it every time something was posted, but
it took me too much time, and i can't listen at work, now i
only d'l when people post about it being good music. I'm not
able to give good critics, as i just don't know about all
the techniques and stuff, so you'll probably only hear me
saying 'nice' or 'not nice'... It's true when i've heard
stuff from a person before, i'll d'l his new music first.

i will usually download a track, especially if i haven't
heard any music by that member before. if the music is
consistently bad, or if i have many mp3's already, i might
skip it. threads move through pretty quickly, and i know i
don't see all of them. i still don't have music by all the
music makers here, and i've got a lot of mp3's (as well as
all the ae mixes).

most of the music produced by people here sounds amateurish,
which is what you would expect. beyond that, some is good,
and some is not so good. i don't necessarily listen to hear
great music, but rather to provide an audience and critical
commentary as part of the community. i listen to a lot of
electronic music, i make electronic music, so i enjoy
sharing and hearing what others are doing.

i will usually comment only on what i like about a track, or
offer suggestions for improvement. if something is not my
style, i'll say so or just not comment.

i listen to as much as i can and i try to give honest,
objective criticizm to everything i listen too.

i feel like if i listen and comment, these people might do
the same for me. if they don't i get a little irritated but,
eh... no biggie.

i make a special effort to hear tracks from people who have
given me constructive criticizm in the past. ecnadniarb,
kochlear, MC_303_beatz, ambsace and Junktion come to mind as
people who's opinion i respect and who i always make an
effort to listen to their stuff. There are more, but i
can't recall them just now. you know who you are anyway.

i really try to download every track i find on this mb. but
the threads move so fast an i can really only visit it in 10
minute intervals throughout the day....so i miss alot of
threads.

as for commenting, i try to comment on every thread i
download from, even if i don't like the track or it's genre
isn't appealing to me, just so they know one more person is
listening to their music. it's a good feeling.

i try to download everyone's tracks. i love ambsace,
evolume, qrter, sanguine, and weatheredstoner's music
(that's what i can think of off the top of my head) but i've
heard excellent tracks by other artists as well.
