Really I mean, I was quibbling about the lack of features,
but the part that will not cease to irk me is the unused
space to the right, I just don't get it.

i like both designs

i was on xlt before watmm... so when I went to watmm, it
was like overload and I really didnt like it... but after a
month or 2 there... i got used to it

i like em both equally now.

a website should fit into a 800x600 screen, thats why.

spot on, phob....wish more web desingers thought like

wrong assumption...

there was so much downtime... because the host was
screwy...

my site is on the same host that watmm was, and whenever
watmm was down... my site was too

i think theyve fixed the problem though... it hasnt happened
in awhile...

Those "Monthly Bandwidth Exceeded" messages a few months
back suggest otherwise, Z...

(but yes, recent roubles are the hosts fault...)....

that was once...

every other time watmm has been down in the past was due to
server errors

Heh, always gotta throw in the "...but" don't ya Jand?

I'm not about to get into some design pissing contest with
Phob but I will say this:

1) 800x600 is the browser design minimum standard nowadays.
While most users are using 1024 and up, the design standard
always has to be the minimum, and with the new OSes
supporting only 800 and up, that's why it's the standard. To
design a site that requires more than the minimum forces
your user to adjust, which is poor design.

2) 100% table widths (or a percentage thereof) is more
professional in my opinion, as again you're not forcing the
user into predefined spaces (and not maximizing your screen
real estate, which at higher resolutions is the whole
point).

3) We're back up! Yeah!

Hey, Joy....sorry if any of my comments above sounded
bitchy, not my intention at all, mate... like I said, I've
got nothing but admiration for the work both you and Phob do
for the wider AFX/IDM/AE etc community...

Wide, Wide 100% tables are one of my pet hates, I must
admit....

It's a useability thing really; a golden rule of Typography
is that the optimial line length is around 39 to 45 letters
(approx an alphabet and a half long...)...

Doubly important online, as no-one enjoys reading large
amounts of text on-screen....

(hehe...I am such a design nerd this morning...:)...

oh is that why we all visit messageboards?

so why don't you use width=100% for your whole site then?

(it's all about control in my point of view, you want to
control the layout and make sure the site is looking the
same for all users.)

imo the board should stay this way, it's nice, simple and
clear

the reason i never posted at watmm is 'cause i don't like
the mb one bit, it's divided in different parts and everyone
has own pics in their messages and stuff, it annoys me

i hope this mb won't change, or at least not much

i like making my pages at a width of 125% with 'overflow:
hidden'.

fuck the users if they can't take a joke.

I agree with Morton, the watmm forum is way too busy, all
those pics and smilies really annoy me. Plus, i'm at work so
i don't want all that. Here, i really like the color scheme,
functional lay-out and sizes. It just looks more
professional.

you should stop whining about number-nerdish stuff and just
enjoy the board!
