O_o
you mean the fifth page of this thread in the case of the
default setting of 25 messages per page?
or the fifth page of watmm.com is down, because of the
related goofiness
or....

We're working on it:

Cen is still plugging away at the DB as we speak;

The AFX, AE and BOC sections are up, and I am uploading the
SP section now - The revamped BOC section will go up after
we get all this mess sorted with the forums. I still have
many paths to fix, but everything on the front end seems to
be working now (haven't tested, only an assumption) Will do
in-depth testing and repair once the forum is back up (which
will be at it's own URL subdomain).

I guess its personal preference. Personally though, I don't
see how anyone can think this place is as functional as the
watmm message board. Im sorry to say it to whoever coded it,
but its just not as good as the UBB style *shrug*

"functional"?

it's our own decision to limit the number of functions, not
because we're able to add them. if we find out we need a new
function, we code it.

Right, but there's just some stuff I find lacking. Like no
quote feature. No "last post by" listed in the thread
listing. No file embedding. No quick and easy UBB tags for
messages. No emoticons. I dunno, this board and the
planet-mu one both feel... restrictive compared to UBB.
Also, confining it to a narrow window hurts on readability
as for some reason I find it easier to scan my eyes left to
right than swap down another line. Its actually slightly
more of a problem here because the middle section (havent
checked if its a frame or not) won't automatically scale to
resolution, or, if it does, then the scale is set really
narrow, as at 1280x1024 at work and 1600x1200 at home, I get
a huge black space to the right of the thread window.

This is all of course, my personal taste and opinion, Im not
trying to flame anyone or tell you how to design you board,
just my thoughts on the non-UBB style boards Ive seen.

i really like this board. i think if it was full of
emoticons and cheesy aol/messenger crap, i wouldnt like it
as much.
its nice and straight to the point.
plus, the people who post here are spot-on. thats the main
thing.

"No "last post by" listed in the thread
listing"

before clicking on the thread title, hover your mouse over
the thread name. it shows who last posted.

check again. keep your mouse over the specific thread in the
list.

No file embedding.
you mean picture atatchments? there is for premium members.

No quick and easy UBB tags for
messages.

hopefully ppl would learn html tags in here.

No emoticons.
yeah, im really missing those 100+ smilies too...

Alright if you're going for a peice of artwork, but to me a
message board is a functional tool, and there's more empty
black space to the right of the message column than there is
message column on my screen right now. I could see if there
were adition content in there but right now its just wasted
space.

Also forgot a couple of UBB features missing: users
currently reading thread, sectionable board topics (this
really becomes more usefull with broader ranged foums like
somethingawful.com's but even still...). There's more Im
sure but you get the point.

Messageboard software is a bit of a commodity now, there's
all sorts of stuff out there. Which is good, as it saves
having to re-invent the wheel everytime.

Doesnt have to be just pictures, can be mp3's, video's etc.
Mousing over a thread to see who last posted isn't nearly
the same as if Ive posted to several threads Id have to
mouse over them all for a second. Especially considering the
empty black area to the right of the board window there's
plenty of room to simply have it listed in a column.

No quote button is a big hurt for me as well, I don't want
to be arsed to copy and paste then italicise a bunch of text
on my own when 15 minutes of coding and a button can do it
for me, things like that are the reasons why we have
computers and all.

I could see if there were adition content in there but
right now its just wasted space.

that is one of the things i DONT like about UBB/Invasion
boards. "look there's an empty spot there - someone please
fill it out with some information!"
"-but we've already used all our variables"
"-i dont care... find out something new.. maybe list the
person who's having birthday tomorrow?"

users currently reading thread
Big Brother...

sectionable board topics (this
really becomes more usefull with broader ranged foums like
somethingawful.com's but even still...)

splitting the community huh?

There's more Im sure but you get the point.

not really. we're totally aware of what UBB and other
messagesboards are loaded with... but we have choosen to
implement stuff we actually need...

"Doesnt have to be just pictures, can be mp3's, video's etc.

actually thats a security reason... and we care about
bandwidth/storage issues...

No message editing either, though that might be a premium
benefit Im not sure, because I would have just edited my
last instead of writing this new post, but, emoticons don't
have to be smiley's and can get quite creative. For example,
take somethingawful's ":goatse:" I bet you didn't know you
could turn the goatse man into an animated emoticon ;)

hahah, ok. Ive just yet to see a more functional, flexible,
configurable, scalable (the Something Awful forum goons are
18,000 strong at this point, as an example I'm familiar
with), and stable as UBB. Hell, you could even customize to
say, waste half of your screen on empty space if you wanted
to...

1600x1200 at home ~

That's a hell of a resolution there, could you try
something?

Open 2 browser
1 - this message board
2 - the xltronic discography.

dont have any of them on full screen.
put them side by side,
see if that helps your empty black area woes!

I think that'd look pretty cool

But yeah, I'd think you encounter alot of interesting

matter) at that res.

Well that was my point though, the good ones, no I don't, I
just get much wider, and less tall sentences. At least in
places where frames or tables are set to scale rather than
become absolute values.

none taken jand. it was actually nice to read about the
ideas behind xlt's design.
i agree with pigeon and add to that, that although xlt is
more to the point it misses the pictures and shit
(emoticons). the points and the shit doesnt necessarily have
to exclude eachother, i think.

speaking of emoticons, i guess ivo doesnt like posting here
;)
