15 selected remixes - opinions

I must start saying the level is much higher than I
expected... there are some real talents here...

its beign very dificult to vote for me, above all, when I
had chosen some favourites (6 tracks were great for me) and
now some more seem to be growing on me, so everytime I have
more options instead of less... this is really hard.

3
22
23
110
116
136
141

I guess my vote will be one of those... but who knows

the level is 1001249023042305 times lower than what i
expected.

how 109 got on is beyond me. overall, besides a few mixes, i
am completely let down.

BUT, thats just me ^_^

btw, the cdr I made with the 15 mixes is so fucking great!!
I will keep it as one of my gems in my collection... real
underground music!

man,
so negative
did you submit?

or are you hinting that 109 is yours?

Ha, I'm listening to your remix right now. I think it's
really better than most of the 15 selected tracks, I
probably would have voted for it.

Hmm. I think the mixes are fine. But does anyone know how
long this poll lasts?? I want to give the tracks some time
before I vote.

i think 109 is great besides the shouting.....uh

did you participate? was your mix in your opinion better
than any of those?
I think you sound a bit jealous maybe?

;D

I think the level was great cos I really like 7 of the 15
mixes, and thats a lot... apart from this 7 there are 4 more
that I also like but in second place...

only 3 of them I dont really like...

thats what made me say and think that the level was really
good.
I think there are nice artists here

i did submit. and to say i wasnt angry would be a lie,
because i was slightly for some bit.

however, i have heard remixes from people i know. i talked
to ian, from loess, apparently clay, the other guy in lose,
did a mix.

Helios did one, which ive heard, and i think its so much
better.

this kid i dont know but i heard his mix, tony, did so much
of a good job i seriously cannot believe it didnt get in.

i was just expecting much higher. i dont mind if i didnt get
picked based on me breaking some sort of unwritten rule.
everyones got their opinion, so i dont really care about
that.

again, i was just expecting so much higher.

Beside the shouting, this track is just Latent Quarter
played a bit faster, basically.

just like the originals so much that remixes are hard to
judge.

perhaps silly, but my first observation was that most of the
chosen mixes are quite short. having to listen to so many
mixes, did the xltronic crew subconsiously eliminate those
of substantial length? i know mine and my partners mix was
over seven and a half minutes long.

too early to vote, but sounds pretty decent so far
considering most if not all were done by amateur musicians.

hooray for us.

Yes, my expectations were much higher. For Christ's sake if
some of that crap made it in then I should've submitted my
remix... There is some talent in there, but my expectations
were much higher.

#096 or #110 should win.

I'm on 110 now. It's pretty spiffy but then the original is
superb. I think I like 96 best so far.

dissemble
i am listening to your mix now.

i think it is really quite good but i would say the same
thing as i did about Q4Z2X's mix. while it is good, it
doesn't have the catchy hook that most of the 15 fianlists
have. a little melody or something that would make it stand
out against the 180 other tracks. i like your track though,
thanks for sharing.

#22
#96
#141
These are my favourites.

I'd say #136 if it wasn't trying too hard to be Aphex Twin.

that's funny, i thought 136 reminded me a lot of square

well, despite my post in the official thread, there are four
i like the most.

002, 023, 096, and 109

096 would be superb for use in a video game

i thought 109 was quite clever

offline E-man from Rixensart (Belgium) on 2003-07-10 14:09 [#00773355]
Points: 3000 Status: Regular

i like 109
what if it's not the best prpoduced one :p
(the bong sample at the beginnig is kind of cheesy tho)
anyway i'm still voting for 136
sounds A LOT like aphex or sp, but it is so much raw talent
when the rest IMO is a bit too much of a tecnhnical work
except one or two...

theres about 6 different melodic layers in it. didnt realize
catchy was part of the pre requisite.

but, glad you liked anyway. cheers.

well, they do all sound kind of like their made in the vein
of the same school of thought on remixing.

the chosen 15 do seem to focus on clean-cut older-ae-style
tracks. as in usage of sounddesign they're not very
exciting.

I might probably go for 143, simply because it is the only
one that really illicits any direct reaction from me (it
made me laugh on first listen, because it sounds like fun!).
it doesn't sound overproduced, sounds kind of upfront and
honest. a no bull-shit remix.

don't get me wrong. i'm just speculating as to what some of
the criteria may have been for the selection of the final
15.

but yeah, i like yer mix.

not really caring much about the autechre remixes, I dont
see the big huff or puff over them really, except wow, to
get your song picked by some dudes you dont know, I guess
thats cool, but.. really, remixing is a lost art, i think
this shows it. I guess.

Overall, not impressed or caring I guess. Sorry to be a
bummer.

recycle: its not a phase, its always been there, now its
just old skool again like when I used to be more into death
metal and grind than electronic!

But uh really I still listen to tons of "IDM" and other
electro,,,, this stuff didnt make me smile, it made me yawn
mostly.

some of them ARE nice, alberto. like, if they made the top
15 i wouldnt doubt the crew or anything. there are a few
enjoyable pieces, and they arent bad. but there are more
remixes i dont like.

i really cant say much until i know how these got judged. if
its just favorites of the crew, disregarding skill (ahem,
109), then i dont have a problem with it. since its just
what they enjoyed the most, production and skill technique
shouldnt matter. which could be the case.

however, if they did base on production and skill technique,
only a very few of these would get my vote.

overall, yes, i am disappointed with the quality. as said,
ive heard better things out of a few friends and random
people who entered. but its not like they are the worst
things ever. obviously people took time to make some of
these.

i just had higher expectations. no big deal. im cool with it
now ;)

I guess the crew just voted those they liked most... which
is the best thing to do since they are not professional
musicians as to vote for technical contents in which they
are not specialists... its just a contest and they voted for
those tracks they liked more... I think thats just the way
it had to be
