Most of the mix's are definetly top notch, but there's one
that sticks out for me... my choice has been made! I just
had to pick it, as it sounded beter than the original which
was already a masterpiece. But there's all good for the
most part, the cd-r will be a great addition to my
collection!

I dunno about the chosen remixes, either :?/
they don't meet my tastes
then of course disasemble it's possible that we have
different tastes than the judges and a bunch of people here.
I dunno about the value of "catchiness"...

and honestly, I put a lot of work into my track, but I see
how it may have not made it (it's actually a cover) so
that's my story.

ya know what,
BALLS to all of you
These mixes were some of the most uninspired piles of crap i
have ever heard. Most of them were sampled right of the
CD's. and the rest were elevator music.
P.S. give me loess's address so i can send them back the
albums of theirs i bought. they all blow.

i agree with Disasemble 100 percent, 109 was the biggest
load of crap ive ever heard. Ive heard Dis's and think its
way better than mine (thanks for the complement though (nate
tarrant = tony)) Dis's was really good, and it doesnt need a
friggin hook, if by hook, you mean some jerk sampling a bong
hit. And if by hook you mean melody, his had really good
melody, i dont know what evolume is talking about. As for
the positive side, the person who made 96 is a pimp.

i thought only one mix was unquestionably sub par, though
most of the mixes at some point incorporate elements that
undermined whatever good they had done. i admit i was
genuinely surprised at some of the choices, since some
tracks seemed to offer so little.

i don't think it's necessarily sour grapes to say that you
are disappointed with the top fifteen. the individuals who
selected these tracks happen to have different taste in
music, so i have no complaints. i note that none of the 15
are similar in style to the mixes i submitted.

the track i thought was sub par has not been mentioned at
all, positive or negative...

no offense fellas, but some of the selected mixes really
were quite shite.

what bothered me a fair bit about a number of them was the
fact that the original source tracks were in some cases so
blatantly incorporated into the mix, without even being
altered all too much - so much for originality and effort.
=(

generally speaking, i am rather disappointed with the
selection and expected the all of the chosen mixes to be of
a superior quality of the sort which would make it quite
difficult to choose a particular favourite, but oh well, no
matter.

that said, granted, there is some quality work among the 15,
but it was few and far between.

stylistically, all too often the rmxs relied on "tried,
tested & true" idm cliches -
i mean, come on, do we really need to hear squarepusher
ripoffs among the bunch? unless of course it was submitted
by tom jenkinson himself, in which case, my sincere
apologies.

now let us wait and see what sean & rob will pick from the
lot.

I've listened to all of them,......I like a couple of them.
Agree with the general consensus -> no goosebump
submissions. Maybe all the cool artists were remixing goon
and tta ;-) hehe,...who chose the final 15? where can I hear
the other 100 entries? When does jesus enlight us again?

I have to agree on #143 :-) What a lovely track! When i
first heard it, i already found it very nice, but i thought
i would quickly become bored with it.

The opposite has happened :-p I's starting to like it more
and more. What ae-track is this a remix of?

offline xceque on 2003-07-11 03:49 [#00774079]

I have to agree with those who said that the general quality
was a bit disappointing. I listened to them in sequence as I
downloaded them and after the disappointment of the first
three I got bored. But then #23 made me listen again. That
was the first one I liked enough to give a repeat listen.
Most of the rest were kinda dull. I mean none of them were
badly done so much as just not interesting. Samey.
For me it's a toss up between #23, #110 and #116.

btw, I didn't take part in the vote cos I submitted remixes.
Didn't qualify. Didn't expect to :D

I was TOTALLY supriced by #136, but #096 would be a good
winner to...

I think #110 is a little to loud at some points, but it has
great mood. It just isn't all that well produced IMO

as I ve already stated... I am really impressed for ythe
great level of those 15 remixes... of course I have my
favourites, but the cdr I made with all of them is really
delicious to listen to... I am sure I will play it lots of
times from now on

offline Loopz from Brum Land on 2003-07-11 06:51 [#00774211]

well ive gave them a listen 3 times over so far. I feel
disappointed by a few only because i have heard 6 remixes by
other people that i really think are MUCH better (and they
are not mates just people i know online). I will be
interested to know who the 15 remixers are :)

i thought the mc one was very disappointing. to be fair i
not a big fan of rap/mc-ing but even the music was not
exactly cut up/remixed much.

i still want to listen to them a few more times before i
pass comment on the rest but there are already a few that
have grabbed me more than others.

I have a question about how the 15 were chosen. If the
"crew" (he says in a Tim Westwood way!) chose the 15 then
how did that work. Did every judge submit his/her 15 and
then there was some point system or was there an overall
judge ?

when you put forth a work to be judged, shouldn't you be
prepared for criticism? granted, people tend to exaggerate
and rely on profanity to express themselves, but if you
think track is shit, it's shit. imagine sean and rob wiping
away a tear after reading a negative review in the nme
saying "don't they realize that we are people? this
negativity is just mean!" ; )

this is too tough to choose just one track, i am going to
have to make myself a cd, take a day off work and listen to
in on repeat until i come to a decision. I wonder if all the
other remixes will be made available to listen to once the
site is up?

track he/she remixed and
the other entries which i like, i don't know which song they
remixed.

There's some serriously kickass songs in it.
My immediate favourite was 003 but I fear it might be a bit
too DnB for the IDM crowd.
I reckon it's all down to 022, the bouncier than bucephalus
023, 096, 110, and 114.
I also appreciated the BOCness of 007, but is it liscenced
to kill? Dunno.
Big ups to the person that had two qualify.

You guys who are dis'n tracks... sounds like sour grapes to
me. But hey lets just reserve the remix bashing til the
artist in question is able to stand up for themselves.
You gotta remember it's your love of unconventional music
that brought you to this board in the first place, so you
gotta expect your definition of whats good and bad music to
be different to other people's.

I'm all for 109. For a hiphop track to make it to finals at
a IDM remix contest... Shit, think you'd see an IDM track in
the final 15 of a hiphop board's remix contest?
Oh and 143, nice utilization of what must have been limited
audio toolz at your disposal.

Overall I was suprised at the quality of nearly all song
that made it thru. Only a couple I thougth were weak.
But I think even the least inspired song is more interesting
than anything on the billboard top 50 at the moment.
Speaking of which..."Kid Rock Featuring Sheryl Crow Or
Allison Moorer"?!. Are they not sure who it actually is or
something?

I hope noone bases their vote on just listening to the
streams, because the sound quality is terrible.
Now the stardards has been set bring on remix contest number
2!

im glad at least a few people agree with me.

all in all, its just my opinion. you can get angry with it
if you want. im not meaning for people to take offense, but
i dont think stating my opinion on the topic "15 selected
remixes - opinions" is bad. asked for opinions, and im
giving this topic mine. no need to get nasty calling people
"cunts" and what have you.

i think most of the remixes are bland. most of them are the
same length and follow the same formula. most of them, to
me, arent vibrant and colorful. technically, i think about
75 percent of the remixes are good at just that, being
technical. but you can still be technical and get nowhere
near colorful and interesting. i wish some of the remixes
focused on more elements, mixing them together to create
something more full, yet still made it interesting.

this is the quality i was looking for, and expecting. i
didnt get it. thats why im disappointed. also, some of the
remixes that didnt make it, have these qualities. making me
even more confused. i dont think its unreasonable according
to how i feel.

im not bashing people for liking these tracks. if they like
them, thats fine. i dont have a problem with that. im merely
stating my opinion on the whole thing.

in any case, seeing as i DO like some of the remixes, i
think 96 is the most standout track, for me. this is one ill
probably vote for.

hmm. this is tough. i must say i was a little surprised at
some of the songs that made it, yes. i'm not quite sure what
i expected, but it must not have been what we got. *shrugs*

it's come down to 013, 096, and 136. dunno what to do here.
maybe i'll vote for 013 since it's gettin' less votes. heh.

rmx #003 absolutely owns! i'm awfully surprised that not all
too many of you seem to express a similar sentiment towards
this track, but i reckon -spent is right in his assertion
that it's simply not "IDM" enough for the lot of you. but
only 1% of the overall votes so far? that's just downright
absurd! this track is one of only a handful which really
deserve the listener's attention.
