lolz
not the hardest name to spell, dude

Watmm is on a crap host (I think) which constantly fucks the
site over. I think Joytrex mentioned moving hosts (again)
coz of this shit happening constantly.

well it would go down alot... but that was because of a
faulty server box

watmm was moved off it, and its cured of that.

this is soemthing totaly different. this just means too much
data was being transfered.

i know this, becaise me and joy have the same servers

yeah, i understand the bandwidth limit exceeded message.. i
was just wondering if it was due to a ddos attack, for
example, or just overpopularity..

let's not go int othe overpupularity thing - that just leads
to xltronic vs watmm conflict!

what is watmm?

offline Joyrex from watmm.com (United States) on 2003-05-29 23:26 [#00720525]
Points: 1389 Status: Lurker

We went offline because:

a) the site has CONTENT now, and people are downloading it

b) my bandwidth limit was 25GB, and we were getting an
average of 1700+ hits per day.

I am moving to a new host, but regardless the site will be
back up June 1st (the start of a new billing cycle).

The new host has double the space, quadruple the bandwidth,
and is faster ping-wise than the old host, for only a bit
more than what I was paying previously.

AND, that will lead to new features on the site for the
budding electronic musicians who visit the EKT forums.

Quoth: Yes, I do know which site is better! ;)

If you need to contact me, use joyrex@ev1.net

AOTM is coming back... I've already selected the first
artist (you're on me list OD... if I ever get to hear yer
tracks properly), and the good news is I'm getting the new
server set up now, so hopefully by June 1st you'll be
accessing watmm from the new server.

and I'm getting cable modem access on Saturday! woo hoo
(watch out slsk!)

it's true, for all who hate on WATMM, which site has
content? WATMM, though incomplete.. so that definitely
explains the bandwidth problem, as this message board is
certainly better.

offline uzim on 2003-05-30 09:35 [#00720965]

is the discography online yet? : )

Quoth > yeeaaah riiight, compare a site which doesn't exist
and is 10+ months late to one who is offline... j/k ; )

i won't say anything until xltronic AND watmm are both
complete and online. (and frankly i'd like WATMM to be
better than Xltronic, for some reason... though it will
probably be a matter of taste... ^^)

xltronic seems more like the place to hang out and WATMM the
place to get info and media (ie: pictures, audio, video).
sorry xlt crew but you haven't done anything in the last 12
months to show us otherwise, although hosting all the fan
made compilations ("vibes") is really kind of you.

Uzim: yes, the Aphex discography is beginning to take shape
(a few albums, singles, remixes and compilations are up) - I
spent the the last few weeks coding and planning out the
discography backend, so now that's done, the other artist
discogs will go up quickly. I'm re-scanning everything nice
and large so all the material will be new stuff, not the
same old stuff you've seen elsewhere before.

As for who's better... I think once both sites are up, they
will compliment each other rather than specifically compete
- xlt is taking a broader approach to it's artists where I'm
doing a more distilled and focused approach.

I would like to see a bit of XLT though (as everone else
would I reckon) - I mean, SOMETHING has to be complete by
now, right guys? Give us a sneak peek (even if it's just
screen shots). Give them something back for their supreme
patience!

offline Morgoth from Stella-town (Belgium) on 2003-05-30 12:27 [#00721172]

I guess both sites will be good. Every site will probably
better at one specific point of interest, they can easily
complement each other. Some of the contents will be better
on xlt, some will be better on watmm.

Let's be glad for that, there will be 2 cool sites...

you're right, both sites will complement each other well
because of the reasons you stated. still, i think you should
start covering other IDM artists soon, even if you don't
want to give them dedicated sections. no reason not to
report news on other artists we're all fans of.

very rarely.. i sent him some stuff about amon tobin a few
months back and he didn't use it.. and he's been aware of
other stuff w/ luke vibert, mu-ziq.. and of course he
could've linked my essay on electronic music (that i posted
about on WATMM.. first and only posts since i try to limit
myself to certain forums) because it's pretty interesting
and has exclusive comments from mark bell (LFO) about warp
and electronic music in general.. but again, it's just afx,
boc, ae, sqp.. not that they're not great! i'm just saying
there's room and reason to expand :)

Well, Vibert is next on my list - I want to get these
artists complete first though before I add any more.

Plus, some of my future focus will be the Expert Knob
Twidders and that aspect of the site.

Like I said before, I'm doing a more focused, distilled view
of the artists, whereas XLT seems to go for the broader
approach - it would be silly for me to add someone like say
Brothomstates (which I love), since he only has a few
releases out. That's one of the reasons I haven't added
Snares to my list (not that he doesn't have many releases
out, quite the contrary :)

to syncronize their upcomming summer vacations (if they got
any?) so they could fully concentrate and work on xltronic
