what are you investing in?

Just curious what sort of securities anyone here is
invested in?

I've gain about 83% over a year on my alternative (fuel
cell) company.

As the economy turns around, I think we can assume brick and
mortar stocks will pick up the slack (GE, JNJ, BA, etc)

So, what are you guys investing in?

This the best topic ever.

I'm not sure what to invest in at this stage... probably an
index fund for my long-term interests.

I'm investing in a pension as I won't get a state one when
I'm older. That's pissed me off somewhat as I'm still paying
money into the National Fund for it. I may sue the
government. Other than that my shares that I've inherited
are all doing crap now. I'm not looking at doing any
investing in the near future.

that is why you should look at investing now.

*I sound like a broker*

the economy is show signs of life, like I said, brick and
mortar should gain fine.

While the over all market has shrunk 30% or so, smart
investing, like I said, has yielded me close to 90% return
over less than a year.

It's not magic, and there is risk, but smart investing gets
results, especially over the long run.

i know, that sucks balls

I put about $1100 into this stock, and though it's about up
~90%, that's only a bit over $2000

now, if I had dropped, $5000, then I'd have close to $10000,
a more considerate gain.

Of course, $5000, especially now, is a large portion of my
portfolio, and I ceratainly need not put all the eggs in a
single basket.

of course, you've heard the stories...

If you had invested $300 in Microsoft in like '81 or there
abouts, today you would have $800 gadzillion.

So, over the long term, even a meager investment can produce
large yields.

I knew this board was pretty bourgeois, but this is too
much. Electronic music must be the only musical style not to
find its roots in the working class. Personally, I invest my
money in nuclear energy, weapons and prostitution. I´m
gaining.

are you shitting me?

this day and age, anyone can invest in stocks/bonds/mutual
funds

I don't want to be a flaming asshole, but come on man, grow
up. A topic about investing has nothing to do with the type
of people who listen to idm.

Steel workers should invest just as much as a suit.

Money isn't everything, obviously, but it counts for a lot
in this world, why not let it help you live your life the
way you want to?

and how is this any different than someone working 3 jobs?

I'm busting my ass to invest in good funds, just without
having to sell my soul to some corporation from 9-5.

I thought investment in securities would be widespread in
such a well educated demographic such as idm listeners, that
is of course. Might as well say that as we're sterotyping
investors........

consider investing? Why the hell not?

I am just saying that people who listen to IDM probably come
from a certain part of society. You go and invest your money
wherever you want, I dont care.
I just find the topic a bit lame, thats all.

And I still doubt that you can name one genre except
electronica that has not sprung out of the working class.

I really don't see how it can stem from what class you come
from really... it's just a thing of personal taste...
something about your personality... I suppose you can argue
that where you come from shapes your personality, and so it
does to a certain extent, but I still don't know if it has
anything to do with this...

offline zyx from Beijing (China) on 2003-05-22 15:58 [#00710568]

You really take up a stern position in your arguments.
(Irony). Good Night.
Nothing, IMO, is "just" personal taste. It all derives from
something else, may it be class or anything else. Why do you
think you listen to IDM and not German Speed Metal?

offline avart from nomo' on 2003-05-22 15:59 [#00710573]

of course your musical taste depends on class. My own
observations says: workers= rock
engineering-students= synth

...a friend of mine is a researcher in musicology - he has
done some interesting work on this sort of stuff here in
sweden...

fond which really grew up fast...i'll probably take the
money out this year (cos it doesnt look that good anymore)

but basically - this fond is wired to our domestic

I think most people here are aware of what IDM means and
that it does include a wide variety of genres. What do you
prefer we call it, Bird? This thread truly shows how afraid
people are nowdays to give labels to things. "Anyone can
invest." "It is not interesting where a genre comes from."
"IDM is anything", or it doesnt exist, yet we talk about it
all the time without any misunderstanding. This is the place
for post-modern, middle class kids to define their own
group, just like any group defines itself by looking at what
it isnt. So, come on, there i s such a thing as IDM, because
we talk about it all day here.

I hate thread jackings, but I guess I didn't help matters.

I don't think musical tastes depend on your 'class'. Just
because you're born into a certain class doesn't determine
what you will listen to throughout your life.

Music preferences are more of an acquired taste imo.
