i never really disliked Ae, but i never loved them either -
i always liked it (apart from the very very beginning, when
i wasn't used to it) but it doesn't grow on me out of
incomprehension|dislike, as it seems to do with everyone!

for example, Confield: everyone seemed to be like "it takes
months and months to appreciate it, but then you'll love it
as the great mindblasting masterpiece it is!!"... and well,
i liked it from first listen, and i still like it very much,
but my mind didn't change at all for it, i like it very much
but it doesn't grow on me in any way! ' _'

is it normal, doctor?

offline uzim on 2003-05-18 09:57 [#00703929]
Points: 17716 Status: Lurker

erm, there is something though - my liking of Ae, it doesn't
change with time, but it does change a lot with
mood!

it can be from boring like hell to great, depending on the
mood i'm in...

hmm, it was pretty much the same with me...i liked confield
since i first heard it - it was nice but nothing
special...when i was listening to it on friday i REALLY
liked it...much the same with draft...seems like i have to
be in a right mood to really apreciate it

yeah, it took me a few months to get into autechre.. before
then i thought they were quite boring.. that was about 3
years ago. once you 'get' ae there is no turning back, i
sometimes have periods where i forget all other music exists
and only listen to them

loads of people seem to "only" like lp5
but it's their worst album i think, it's not a bad album by
any stretch of the imagination but when you compare it to
the others it really lacks a certain depth.
i think the people that just like lp5 alone have got a long
way to go before they 'get' ae.

LP5 is great, but my favourite ae-album is probably Chiastic

i dont think lp5 lacks depth at all. it seems to be their
"fuck you" record. it's not my favorite, but it was the
first ae i heard and a great introduction if i do say so
myself. i heard that first track and i thought, wow,
something is up with that and immediately became intrigued.
i've never heard anything like it.

Tri Repetae++ was my first and, although not my fav, has
something that the other albums do not. It is like a
soundtrack for this weird scifi dream. Would definetly go
well with a movie like 2001. I really like lp5, Confield
and TR++ in their entirety, while stuff like Chiastic Slide
and Ep7 have really good parts but maybe not every track. I
do not own Draft 7.30 yet although I have listened to it and
really like the direction they are heading. Combining the
experimental elements with some solid tekker/hip hop stuff
makes for a wondefully, aromatic blend.
